Memory Care Communities in Glendale, AZ

"I stayed in a home called Grace Assisted Living. It was nicely constructed, and everybody had a private room and a private bath. The bathrooms were small but nice, and they kept the place clean. One negative thing was that the air conditioning was not as cool as I liked it. Otherwise, the help was very good, and they were good with the medicine. They had a Spanish helper who was very pleasant, but it was hard translating and telling what you wanted, so I put a translator on my phone. Other than that, the lady was very sweet, very nice, helped you with everything, and did everything correctly. The owner was also very good and very precise on the meds. They mopped the floor 2 to 3 times a day, and did it constantly after every meal. They had a nice living room with a big TV and a backyard. It's two houses joined together. I don't know how many they had on the other side, but on my side, there were four of us. There were 3 bedrooms in the front, each with a private bath, and then in the back, there was a shared room with a bath. I think they had another house right next door, and it was connected. They cooked food in that house and then brought the food over to my side of the house. The owner lived on the other side herself, but the lady who helped lived on my side. They had no problems with people coming in. I had therapy and doctors coming in, and there was no problem with the scheduling. My cousin could also visit me any time she wanted, so that was good. The food could have been a little better. Some of the dishes weren't exactly what I liked, but other times it was okay. They're very generous with food. The owner said she didn't want anybody to be hungry in her house, and she gave me too much food. I think they had memory care there, too. Three of the people on my side had dementia. They had games set out, but none of us played the games. They had things that you could play, like card games, but we never played them. They had a nice cable TV, though, so we had a lot of channels to choose from. I like that because I like regular TV. They also did our laundry every day, so everything was perfect in that way."

"We toured MorningStar Senior Living at Golden Ridge. We've looked at some of the perks and things that they give you, and that's why we chose them. We liked them, and they had a lot of the features that we liked. I liked that they have a garage, a lot of storage, and washers and dryers right in the facility. The garage was attached. We like the layout of the home, two bedrooms, and two baths. So basically, the layout of the casitas, we like those. The staff were great. They were friendly and helpful. There was another casita we wanted to see, but it wasn't available. We liked the one we saw anyway. We didn't try the food, but they gave us a great snack because it was right about the time we were hungry. They made that up special just for us. We didn't have any regular meals. They have a library, too."

"I moved into the Glencroft Center for Modern Aging. They upkeep quite often. The campus is nicely laid out. It's a very nice place to live. The staff is great. They have a gym where they do all sorts of balance classes and things that people might need when they're out of surgeries and stuff. They have sewing, quilting, and painting classes. There's a lot of class for everyone. They have two different restaurants. They have their dining, and then they have Henry's, which is a great place for hamburgers. Henry's gives you almost anything you want, and that's nice. I like the food plan now. They have a hospital here on campus, too."

"My father will be moving in. I like the cottage style living. It's very green, there are a lot of trees, and a lot of grass. It's not xeriscaped like most of the places that I toured. It is literally within walking distance from my mother's house, so during the holidays we'll be able to go over and see him, or once COVID is over we'll be able to pick him up and take him over to Mom's house. We weren't able to walk the grounds, but basically we met the people in the office face-to-face and talked, and they took us on a virtual tour of the facility. We had pictures so we could show my father. They have four different levels there of memory care and he's at the top. He has sundowners, so as long as he's on medication he's fine, but he gets a little confused every once in a while. For the most part he's very high functioning. He can drive himself, and he can feed himself. He walks and feeds his dogs. It's just he can't live by himself. The staff is great. They have a lot of activities. I've been there a couple of times now. The other day, when I was there, it was National Cupcake Day, and they had taken sugar-free cupcakes to all the residents. Today is Ugly Sweater Day and everybody dressed up in ugly sweaters. They have a lot of activities for the residents to do. It's not like Dad is just gonna be sitting in his room doing nothing. I met the director and the salesperson. I briefly met staff as they were walking by. The sales director introduced me to people. The other day when I was there it was close to dinnertime and the food just smelled amazing and they cooked everything from scratch. It made me hungry sitting there. The staff was very helpful."

"I went to Inspira Arrowhead. They took us straight to one of the apartments, and then we just sat and talked to the lady who was in charge. The staff was very helpful, and she spent close to a half an hour just talking and sharing with us. The apartment was very nice; we liked it a lot. It's not fully furnished, but it would be large enough for the both of us. There were all kinds of activities, they have a pool inside that's heated, they have a place where you can exercise, and they said they have someone there all the time to help you achieve your goals. There is a lot of building going on around it, so it's a fairly new place. We saw some people sitting outside in the sun as we approached the building. It was very nice."

"They specialize in different levels of memory care. The rooms were small with enough room for a bed and a chair to fit. They encourage that you get a companion room so that you have a partner in the room. "

"So far, having Mom at Senita Ridge Senior Living has been a good experience. Everybody's been very helpful. They sent a nurse to our home to evaluate her before having her come there. She has a shared room. The activities are good. They play bingo, they have several sitting areas for the residents to sit and watch TV, and they actually do horse racing where they have to stick horses basically with weighted bottoms, and then they roll some giant dice, and that determines how many spaces your horse moves up. They also get together for snacks every day. They have people come to do live singing/entertainment and they have an open patio area in the center of the community where any of the residents can go out if they want to."

"The reason I didn’t choose Brookdale Union Hills is they didn’t have a private single room. They only had available space for sharing and they were more expensive. I don’t see my dad sharing, not as Alzheimer's. I know they have activities. The facility was very pretty with very nice grounds. The interior and some of the furniture was older but you could tell it was well-loved. It could probably do some updating and remodeling but it was clean and the lady that took me around was nice. "

"One of the factors that I choose Emeritus for my mom is that there are no stairs and elevators because my mom is not good at elevators. It is less of a hospital and more of a homey type atmosphere. The people are very friendly and helpful. I am very impressed with the staff for being very friendly and they knew my mom by name within the first two days. They are very helpful and make sure that everybody is taken care of. She is in nice shared room with a little refrigerator and a bathroom. It is furnished and set up nicely for two people. They have normal food. They have all kinds of activities. They have bingo, exercise and arts and crafts. They have entertainment. They even have a happy hour once a month. My mom is happy there and I will recommend them to others. "

"The Woodmark is quite equal with the other facility we visited, and the problem that we were working for was the longevity of her stay in one of those places without having to move her. Woodmark is the place where we could move her in there and she could stay there possibly three or four years. It was a nice facility and the people were very friendly, but it was in the event that my mother-in-law run out of funds that she was going to have been moved somewhere. "

"My mother is at Fellowship Square, the independent living part. She gets one meal, and she is very happy with that. They have a great dining room, good enough to make her happy, which is awesome. Part of the reason that we chose this particular facility is because my father, who has dementia, is in their assisted memory care, so she just walks right across the apartment to see him. I would surely recommend this to others. "

"My mom will be moving into Compassionate Senior Care LLC. We just fell in love with it. The manager was just very understanding and patient with questions. She was very kind to my mom. Just overall, you could tell that it was welcoming because my mom trusted her. The house was really clean and smelled good. It was very open so that wheelchairs and walkers could move around. She had it labeled for Alzheimer's patients to see where things were, like the kitchen and the bathroom. It was set up for people with Alzheimer's and dementia to feel safe. The food was fantastic. It was fresh, with no preservatives, all homemade food and snacks."

"This is the finest facility I could ever want to care for my Mom. She lived there for more than 3 years before passing. The home is beautiful, clean, wheelchair accessible, and Effie and Igor are the kindest, most caring people I have ever known. Throughout her stay the staff provided my Mom the finest care available. The food is wonderful and all special requests were provided her. She loved ice cream."
