Manassas Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Manassas:

Project Mend-A-House

Address: 8787 Commerce Court, Manassas, VA 20110
Phone: (703) 792-7663

For more than 34 years, this non-profit organization has helped seniors make their homes safer and more secure. The organization’s volunteers install safety modifications, such as ramps and modified doorways. They also perform basic home repairs, such as fixing leaky faucets and replacing light fixtures. To help seniors remain independent, the organization also provides motorized chairlifts, raised toilet seats and other adaptive daily living aids.

Neighborhood Housing Rehabilitation Project

Address: 15941 Donald Curtis Drive, Suite 112, Woodbridge, VA 22191
Phone: (703) 792-7530

This program is offered by the Prince William County Office of Housing and Community Development. Seniors with low-to-moderate incomes can receive financial assistance for home repairs and weatherization. Some typical projects include kitchen repairs and siding and roof replacements, and the first $25,000 of assistance doesn’t need to be paid back. Any additional assistance is repaid through a 30-year deferred deed of trust.

Real Estate Tax Relief .

Address: 9027 Center Street, Manassas, VA 20110
Phone: (703) 257-8200

The Real Estate Tax Relief program is offered by the city of Manassas, and it may help senior homeowners free up money in their budgets. The program provides partial or total relief of real estate taxes to eligible senior homeowners. Seniors must have an annual household income that does not exceed $64,574 to participate, and tax relief is offered on a sliding scale.

Meals on Wheels

Address: 5 County Complex Court, Suite 240, Woodbridge, VA 22192
Phone: (703) 792-6374

This program is offered by the Prince William Area Agency on Aging. It provides home-delivered meals to participating seniors every weekday. These hot meals are prepared by chefs at the Manassas Senior Center and are delivered by well-vetted volunteers. The nutritious meals vary each day and are reviewed by dietitians. For this service, the agency requests a minimum donation of $1.50 per meal.

Virginia Lifespan Respite Voucher Program

Address: 1610 Forest Avenue, Suite 100, Henrico, VA 23229
Phone: (804) 662-9333

This state-run program helps family caregivers pay for short-term respite care. Eligible caregivers can receive up to $400 in reimbursement for respite care. These voucher funds can only be used for respite care, not household expenses. To participate, caregivers must live with their senior family member full-time.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
