I visited this facility

We had a very excellent tour of Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge. I'm impressed with the place. Some of the rooms were nice, some of them were vacated, and some were rehabbed, getting ready for their next resident. We've put a deposit down, and as far being on the waiting list, they're giving us vouchers for several dinners and lunches there, but I have not eaten there yet. They have a pool, a gym, a nice library, walking paths, community rooms, gaming rooms, a nice cafeteria, and a pub.

I visited this facility

Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge is the cream of the crop. Everything is top of the line as far as very wide and beautiful architecture going from cottages of several different sizes to units within the building of many different sizes. They have physical therapists there. By paying the deposit to be in their Compass Club for future openings, you can eat there six times a year for free, use the facilities, and go on trips, but you have to pay the fee. That really gives you a chance to step inside and know what it's like to partake in the facility and what the residents and the staff are truly like on that basis more than just a tour. They had an indoor pool and you can take classes or use it for water therapy on your own. It looks out over the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Southwest Mountains. They have their own little shuttle bus that will take people during the week to shopping, etc. It's multilevel care, multilevel facilities, but it's not all in one building. It has a large campus area. If you need your meds only, they'll come in and do it. You have the standard fee and it's not going to be menu driven. Everything was great and the food was tremendous.

I visited this facility

Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge is a very nice community. It's a little more remote. It offered a reasonable price for the size of the units that they have. The rooms were smaller, but they were attractive. I saw that the people were very fine and the woman who gave us the tour spent a lot of time with us. We even met one of the residents who invited us over to her place and the residents are very friendly. We had lunch and the food was excellent.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge is a relaxed yet beautiful facility, tastefully decorated but with physical aids for aging adults. It has clear, sweeping views of the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west, and stunning sunsets to be viewed from it's upper level apartments. Its meeting rooms on the first floor are top notch with all the latest technology to make it easy for residents and visitors to put on excellent presentations. Some ground floor apartments have doors leading out to their own gardens, and staff is available to help those interested in exotic plants to plant and care for them as needed. There are definitely four seasons in Charlottesville, but most year they are mild. Spring and fall are especially beautiful. Westminster Canterbury is not too far away from the University of Virginia and its Miller Center, where top leaders and authors speak to topics that affect democracy, government and the world. Many of the residents are active in sports, and take advantage of lifelong learning programs offered through the university.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I have been consistently impressed with this facility. They offer tiered levels of care and my grandparents started in an apartment with minimal care, but as they aged and their health deteriorated, were transferred to an assisted-living situation with a higher level of supervision. The facility also offers a health care unit that provides even more extensive care, which has been especially helpful as a temporary stop when returning to WCBR following a short hospital stay. The staff at WCBR are dependably friendly, helpful, and genuinely care for the residents they serve. The facility is kept extremely clean and is well-decorated and inviting. Certain common areas often showcase the art or collections of residents. The activity calendar is tailored to residents of varied abilities and interests, and the facility provides numerous options for transportation off-grounds, helping residents get to doctor appointments, the grocery store, and community events. The dining is excellent: choices are seasonal, wide-ranging, and easily accommodate special dietary needs.Overall, this facility has exceeded the expectations of my grandparents and their friends and fellow residents. It is comforting as a family member to know that they are safe in a place where their well-being and happiness are top priorities.

I visited this facility

If you had to choose a perfect place to spend your golden years, Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge would probably rank as a top contender. This continuing care retirement community offers a full continuum of care, including a large assisted living component. Residents of Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge can spend their days enjoying a full schedule of activities or quietly relaxing on one of the outdoor patios, where expansive views of the surrounding mountains are almost intoxicating. This is a beautifully maintained facility that offers exceptional care to its residents, in addition to its location on a mountaintop just outside of Charlottesville. My mother was a resident at another assisted living community, and I took her to Westminster Canterbury to visit a friend, who had moved there after she was unable to live on her own. We were both overwhelmed with the idyllic location and the airy atmosphere that existed in the various building and cottages. On this particular day, the drive up the mountainside provided breathtaking vistas. On one side, you could see the town of Charlottesville and the University of Virginia campus. On the other side, you could see the gently rolling hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a beautiful and peaceful location."Catered living" is the term that Westminster Canterbury uses to describe their assisted living services, which includes the 24/7 healthcare oversight, medication management, daily help with dressing, toileting, bathing and other personal need, and housekeeping and laundry services. Residents also have three nutritious meals in their choice of dining areas, plus an array of fresh fruit and snacks throughout the day. Because of its location, there is scheduled transportation to doctor appointments, as well as outings and other recreational trips. Living here is not cheap; you have a rather substantial entrance fee plus hefty monthly rent, so this is a place for those who have a considerable amount of savings. One of the best features about Westminster Canterbury is its sense of community. Every effort is made to camouflage that it is an assisted living facility. The nursing staff and aides dress in brightly colored uniforms that look more like street clothes than antiseptic scrubs. They are bright and positive and treat all the residents with love and respect.Westminster Canterbury has more to do and more activities than the average assisted living facility, including a fully stocked library, a beautiful therapeutic pool, a beauty salon, music recital areas and walking and nature trails, that are wheelchair accessible. The calendar of activities is also full, so no resident is ever bored. This is an impressive place for you or your loved one, on the condition that you have the ability to pay the hefty charges. That is the only negative thing about Westminster Canterbury of the Blue Ridge.
