Silverado Alexandria

It’s nice to read the positive reviews of Silverado Alexandria. I sincerely wish our family had been able to write one. My father entered Silverado Alexandria in November 2025 after our family was impressed by everything we were told the facility had to offer. Over the next several months, however, we experienced significant staff turnover, poor communication, unexpected charges, unkept promises, and, most concerning, serious issues involving my father’s safety. Eventually, we felt we had no choice but to move him to a Silverado facility in California. He passed away in June. I could write a longer review detailing everything that happened, but I’ll focus on a few incidents that I believe families considering Silverado should know about. A doctor prescribed my father Ativan and ordered that my father not be left alone for three days while he adjusted to it. Silverado charged us an additional $720 per day for one-on-one supervision. Despite those instructions, my father—who had dementia—asked the one-on-one attendant to leave his room, and the attendant did. My father was then left alone, fell, and spent three days in the ICU. Several members of the nursing staff, as well as the doctor, expressed frustration to my sister and me that my father had been left alone. Yet when I later met with management, I was told by a manager named Melissa that my father had not been alone when he fell. We were never given a satisfactory explanation for these conflicting accounts. While my father was hospitalized and restrained in his hospital bed, Silverado continued providing a one-on-one attendant at the hospital around the clock and continued charging us for that service. Melissa subsequently left Silverado. After her departure, another staff member told me, “With Melissa gone we can hopefully get back to the ‘Silverado Way.’” Communication was another major problem. We have records of numerous phone calls, emails, and text messages to staff that went unanswered. Perhaps most troubling, Silverado allowed a person who was not on my father’s authorized list to pick him up and leave the facility with him. When I questioned how this could happen, Silverado responded in writing that preventing a resident from leaving with someone—even someone not on an approved list—could violate the resident’s rights. That explanation was especially difficult to understand because Silverado was simultaneously charging us an additional $720 per day for one-on-one supervision because they said my father was “exit seeking” and had attempted to get into an elevator. I understand that other families may have had very good experiences at Silverado Alexandria. Ours was very different. What concerns me almost as much as the incidents themselves is Silverado’s unwillingness, in our experience, to acknowledge mistakes or take responsibility for them. I’ve noticed that Silverado responds to some Google reviews. I sincerely hope they respond to this one. Our family would still like answers to these questions, and I suspect families considering placing a loved one in Silverado’s care would like to hear those answers as well.

Silverado Alexandria Memory Care Community was our first choice, but we didn't think my father would do well there. What I liked the most about the place was the level of staff care for the residents. The community layout was also great. My husband was able to eat their food and he said it was delicious. It was a complete memory care dedicated facility and it's just a nice place.
