Assisted Living Reviews for Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road

October 31, 2018

I visited this facility

When I initially got to Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road, I waited a few moments before anyone acknowledged me to ask for assistance. However, the actual visit was pleasant. The staff showed me the place. She did do a follow-up to see if there were any other questions that I had. The room was relatively small; it was more like a studio. I didn't see an exercise room, but I did see a room where they congregate for different games. They also have a calendar with different activities throughout the month, which include having a minister come and speak with the occupants.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road was really nice especially the private rooms. I really like it because they’re roomy. My son is on a wheelchair, and he had plenty of room to go in and out in that room. He stayed there as respite care patient for a few days. I like the idea that it had the bedroom area, and then it had a little sofa close by, like a little living room area. It was small, but it’s connected to the bedroom. It was nice. I like it. It was roomy and very clean. I like the way they had the bathroom too because, like I said, he is in wheelchair, and he could very easily go in and out of that bathroom as long as there are grab bars. They had all that for him. Brookdale was closer to my house. I really like it. my son’s respite care service was fine. He liked the food. The dining room was very nice. It was nice, roomy, and very clean, and it was pretty. It was a nice-looking dining room area. They were very friendly. They’re very nice people. They were there to help me during the time that I needed them to help me with his care. They’re on top of things. They handled everything very well while I was away.

Brookdale is a nice facility. it was conveniently located. I did talk to someone that had a parent there, and she gave good reviews about it. The people that I talked to were nice, so I think it’s a good place. I have no reason to say anything negative about it.

I was not impressed with the size of the units at Brookdale; you could just fit a bed and a dresser. The food was horrible, and one of the ladies that lived there told me not to live there. They didn’t really have a lot of amenities, just a small library, a very small sitting room for five people with a TV, and a nice courtyard with a barbeque grill on a patio. They had a formal living room where you could entertain your guests. If you’re in assisted living, they take and manage your medications, but sometimes you have to wait for hours before you get your medications.

I was not very happy with my visit at Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road and I was not impressed. The lady who gave me the tour seemed distracted, like she had better things to do. During the tour, she yawned a couple of times. The facility itself was nice and well maintained. They redo the rooms as residents move out. I do not have a problem with the facility; I was just not impressed with the person doing the tour. The rooms were comfortable. The dining and activity rooms looked nice.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg was on top of my list of places that I was considering, based on the price and everything. The staff was very helpful. The rooms were very clean, nice, and well-kept. Everything had been renovated, so everything was new.

I visited Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road (formerly Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates). The staff was great. The environment looked fine. The memory care unit was a little smaller than I thought it would be. The rooms were clean, but the ones that had two people in them were a little bit small.

Brookdale was expensive. The staff was friendly, and the rooms were clean but too small. I looked like it's for people who really need more care.

The facilitator for dementia patients at Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road was very engaged and extremely enthusiastic, and the place was well kept. It would have been one of our possible choices; however, my father needed more medical care, so this facility wasn’t appropriate for him.

Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road (formerly Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates) was in the process of being updated. They were painting the interior and trying to bring it up to date, although I didn't think it was in bad shape. It was encouraging to know that the company cares enough to have the place refreshed. I liked this one very much. If I needed something a more than independent living, I would certainly consider this one because it was all on the ground level. It was a very nice, pleasant place to walk into. The staff was very nice and knew what they were doing. They had all of the amenities, like a gym with exercise equipment and laundry facilities.

My husband is in Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road (formerly Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates), and he has early-stage dementia. At first, they gave him assisted living, which was very nice, and then they told me that he needed more care. He was put in the same place, but it's a section that they have for memory care, and he doesn't like it as much because he's locked. They don't let him get out, which is for their own benefit, because they could get lost, but he's not used to that. The people are nice, and it's clean. They have good meals, and it's not as expensive as the other place. However, they have very little activities. They have bingo, and that's it. They need more activities for the memory-care people. My husband likes to go outside and look at the cars, and he's not able to unless I go and take him myself. They should have somebody take him outside for a while every day.

I went to Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road for my mother. They did not have a memory care unit. However, it was nice, the rooms were nice, and I thought the building was nice and kept up very nice.

The staff was very friendly and very caring. However, Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road (Formerly Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates) appeared to need some updates, and the painting needed to be touched up. It just looked like it was starting to become a little rundown. Their dining area seemed to be rather small, and that was the first area that gave me a little bit of concern because the floor was sticky. But everybody working with the residents seemed to be wonderfully caring. They were engaging them. All of that was positive. The facility just needed some TLC. They had some games and different people came in and played music, but we didn't talk about a lot of that. The rooms for the residents were larger than some of the other places, but they just needed to be remodeled.

The reason why we chose Brookdale N. Fredericksburg was because there are only 13 people there, so it is a smaller scale. She is getting more of a one-on-one care than too many people and not enough care. She is in an Alzheimer's unit. We seemed happy with them. We like that it is a smaller scale. They do like everybody else; they cut down their staff whenever there is less people, so that kind of bothers me because sometimes they are short-handed; like if they only had 9 people, then they only have one person there at night. More activities for the Alzheimer's unit to do, and it could be a little cleaner.

My sister is at Brookdale N Fredericksburg Road (Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates). It’s a nice place. We would like to have a little bit more of care with regard to the medicines, but it is a very good place to stay. The staff is friendly. The facility is clean and well-kept. The food is good. It is a single story so she can get to the dining room very easily. They provide bingo games and bible studies.

I did visit Brookdale near the medical center. I would have to say that was my least favorite. I did not like it because it is not well staffed. They have no activity rooms and no areas to go outside. It is very much an old school nursing home. The dining area was very poor. The activity room and the dining room was the same room. They were just folding tables and folding chairs. It was very minimal.

Emeritus at Woodbridge was very clean, and it looked like very friendly people in there. The person who attended to us and answered the questions was very helpful and gave me more references and places that I could look around. It was nice and quiet.

I did not care for Brookdale N. Fredericksburg Road. The rooms were dark and kind of depressing. It just wasn’t very appealing to me at all. The staff was nice, but the person that normally did the tour was not available, so the person that I spoke with didn’t have a whole lot of knowledge, but she gave me a contact to the director if I had more questions.

My wife had actually stayed at Emeritus on Fredericksburg Road. I really wasn't that impressed with this place. They mixed the medication, they had her clothes on backwards, it looked like they didn't wash her hair for a week, and a lot of clothes were missing when I went to pick her up. This is just after two weeks. The employees there seemed nice, and they were accommodating. When you're looking for respite care, it is not easy to find a place that will take you, so they were accommodating. They accommodated my schedule, and that was the biggest plus.

Emeritus is very nice. It has longer hallways and a bigger facility. It seems like my mother is going to be wandering around a little bit more there. The staff is very nice and very enthusiastic as well. They seem to care a whole lot about their residents. I would say that what stood out the most is maybe the activity director. She seemed to create a good atmosphere there. I would think it would be a nice place to live. It's just missing a little bit more of that home feel that we were looking for.

We chose Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates for my father because its location is close. It's a clean facility, and overall it seemed OK. His room is nice and a good size. It is also clean. It's a nice place for him. The staff are very helpful and nice as well.

I went unannounced to Emeritus and there was nobody available. Anybody can just walk in there. I wanted to get a feel of the place, but I should have gotten an appointment. There was a helper by the name of Sarah, and she did a good job answering our questions. We were concerned with the doors that lead to the Alzheimer’s unit. It was evident that it was shut off from the rest. The dining room looked nice and clean. The people were very helpful.

My visit to Emeritus was very nice. I didn’t place mother there because they didn’t have individual apartments and the rooms were shared. They also said she needed to be able to get out of the facility on her own and at that time she wasn’t able to do that yet. The place was really nice but I needed something more supportive. The staff was very helpful.

Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates seemed very well maintained. The staff there seemed very professional. I thought their rooms were very accommodating. They did have a courtyard where residents can go out for a walk and sit outside for a chat. It was kind of an enclosed courtyard. They did have indoor activities like arts and crafts.

I liked Emeritus, but it's just the location. I wanted my parents to be close to where I live. The staff was very helpful. The place was very nice and clean. They provided a lot of options for them too, so it was nice.

We have found a place for my father and this is Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates. It is close to my house. It is a fairly small facility, all in one floor, which I like for my father. It is also an older facility but they are doing a lot of refurbishing. Their rooms are spacious for the price. They do have activities but I'm not familiar with all of them. They have crafts. They also have music in the dining room.

My husband, myself and my mother had lunch at Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates and the food was very good. They have a basic menu, but they were very willing to do different meal plan. The staff is very, very friendly and very accommodating. They were very concerned with making sure my mother would have the correct level of care which made me feel very at ease. They also have a very pretty courtyard. Their building is old, but they are doing some interior works. When we were there we saw repairman fixing things that needed to be fixed so that was kind of neat. The rooms are nice.

My mother lived at Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates for about a month and a half. I thought the staff were good and the people we dealt with were pretty good. The place was clean and well-kept. Generally, the rooms were pretty good. Sometimes the housekeeping was not as good as we liked but when we called their attention, it was taken cared of. She liked the food and she was quite pleased with it. Overall, we were fairly pleased with it. There was room for improvement but we were definitely satisfied.

My Mom has been in Emeritus. But she's gone now. Way back when my mom was still with them, everything was okay. The facility is very nice and clean. It is a wonderful place to live and the people are all warm and caring. A good place to recommend to others.

We visited the Emeritus at Woodbridge Estates while searching for a suitable assisted living facility for my brother's friend. Many of their family members live in the area, so this would be an ideal place for him to live. The outer grounds looked well-kept and pleasant. The main foyer had a lovely receiving area, reminiscent of a quaint country home. The private rooms were decorated tastefully with a homey, light and airy atmosphere. Each unit has nice views of the surrounding area. Bathrooms were designed with safety seats and rails. The dining areas were nicely designed and warm. Residents may choose communal dining or more private situations. The food looked deliciously prepared, as well as nutritious. The dietician and chef changes up the menu to keep it interesting and encourage resident to make suggestions. There are places for seniors to visit with families, as well. Residents can enjoy the many nooks and crannies where ample seating areas adorn the many windows. It seemed easy for the seniors to make new friends, given the variety of activities available, such as the book club, art and exercise classes. Residents also enjoy outings to nearby attractions regularly, in addition to community clubs and interactions. We liked that they prepare care plans around what each person needs - and that they are flexible enough to change the level of care as becomes necessary. The staff was very friendly and we could see that the residents are all happy there.

This is an upscale assisted living facility that feels nice and cosy. Having visited other assisted living facilities, I found the staff was friendlier here, the facilities were more, and the overall environment felt much safer. The cost of living is consistent with the average cost for these facilities in San Antonio. This doesn't hurt the pockets of Seniors who may have limited retirement savings to dig into. However, I found that the facility could have been more transparent in the disclosure of the various fees and payments for any additional services that the seniors may require. Otherwise, the facility totally exceeds expectations. They make a plan customized for each resident, based on their individual needs. They allow residents to take their own medications though, in that sense it is not too restrictive or intrusive in the day-to-day life of the residents. Pets are welcome to stay in the community as long as they are not ferocious. Overall, it provides a nice environment for residents to spend their sunset years in an enjoyable way.

I didn't call first, didn't make an appointment, just walked in to take a tour of the facility. The receptionist greeted with a smile and a handshake. I said that I was sorry for walking in like this and said I was just in the area and wanted to look around. She told me it was No Problem.I never felt an instant of inconveniencing anyone. Instead I felt like I had made an appointment a month in advance and everyone was expecting me. I had a chance in the few minutes I waited for her to watch and listen to the residents surrounding me as they went about their daily living at the assisted living community. I heard someone exclaim from the restaurant behind me, "that was a good dinner." Good to know.
