"My aunt moved into The Retreat at Carrollton. It's very clean. They have the best food. They have a great nurse who's hands-on. They take out the trash every single day. They clean your apartment and do your laundry once a week. When they bring it in, they wash your sheets and everything. When they bring it back in, they make up your bed. It's just been a godsend. They serve three meals a day. You go to the cafeteria to eat. They have a library. They play games. They have a big swimming pool and a gym. It's a wonderful place. Tony was the man who helped us with it. I have had no problems with the staff. My aunt has had no problem. Kay is the registered nurse there. She was even there last weekend. I go on Saturdays, and my cousin, my aunt's daughter, goes through the week, and we've had no issues. The people who clean the apartment didn't clean very well last week, last Saturday, and I said something about that, but that's my own preference. Everybody's particular, and I'm included. They came back within 30 minutes after me, going to the desk and saying there's still water on the mirror in the bathroom, and did what I had requested. They play games and will take you to your doctor's visits if it's within 10 miles of The Retreat. They take them to Walmart or Kroger. They can stay busy, but my aunt is not a joiner. She's not going to do any of that. It's more like a hotel. It's clean, nice, and well-lit. They have someone on security at night and cameras all the way around it."

"My mother-in-law moved into Avanti Senior Living at Flower Mound. She is in assisted living, but when we checked out assisted living places we also made sure to look at memory care, because she'll eventually go to memory care. What I really like about Avanti's assisted living is that my mother-in-law was able to get a room with a little private patio. She loved to sit outside, so that was a game-changer there, and the people are wonderful. A staff member, I don't know what her title is, checks on us, and she's always available, and so is the nurse who's on call there. The facility is always clean. It always smells good. They have flowers out and it's very pleasant."

"My mom moved to The Mustang Creek Estates of Flower Mound. I loved everything about it. I loved the way they had it set up for the tenant. I loved that the staff have been very helpful and inviting. I love the programs that they have set for the tenants. They've answered every question that we've needed answered, and they've helped us with every step that we've needed help with. So, I highly recommend them. When I went in yesterday, they had live music entertainment for the residents."

"Atria Carrollton was just as nice as the other place, but the location was good because it's near to where I'm living now and it's convenient. The staff was friendly and detail-oriented. They offered food, but I didn't try it. This facility was probably the largest out of all the ones that we looked at."

"Prestonwood Court was great, and the community was really clean. We weren't able to see many of the residents due to COVID, but the facility itself was super nice. It was one of the better facilities that we saw. The rooms were of decent size, and the gardens were decent, too. The people there all seemed pleasant and friendly. We thought my grandmother would do really well there. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way, but we were excited to have her at their facility. They had a pool and every amenity that you could possibly think of. In the assisted living part they had really nice rooms, where it wasn't just one room. It has like a living room and separate bedrooms with a little kitchenette. It didn't feel like a college-dorm type of situation, which was great. We ended up looking more at the memory care side, and those rooms were great because they were larger. In some of the other facilities that we looked at, it felt like you could touch each wall if you just put your hands out. At Prestonwood Court, it felt like an actual apartment type of room where you had enough space for all of your things, where they could actually bring more of their stuff and make it feel more like home. They would redo the room for you, like you could choose what type of flooring you will have. She had wood flooring in her house, so they're going to put that into the room for her, repaint it, and all of that stuff, so the room would look fresh and clean for her when she got there. It's just really thoughtful in what they were going to do. They were helping us step by step on how to get her there, and they got less traumatic because she has Alzheimer's; it's very difficult in transitioning. They were working really, really closely with us to help us with the transition. That was kind of a big deal, and they were really helpful in that sense."

"We looked at Briarview, and it was very nice. It would have been the place that my mom would go had she agreed to it. The place was very pleasant, and the people were professional. The woman who showed me around was very professional. The rooms were very nice. They had nicer little kitchenettes than the average kitchen, and they had a full-size refrigerator and a pantry, as well as some cabinetry and Lazy Susan lower storage cabinets. We were able to try the food there and it was very good. The menu had choices of a salad, a soup, 2 entree choices, and dessert for that day. And then on the other side of the page had the everyday menu. The dining room was very bright and inviting. There was a nice little gym facility, and a hair and nail salon combo. They had a main gathering spot with a fireplace where they have church services at 2:00 PM on Sunday afternoons. They also had Bible study groups. They had a lot of activities during the week lined up. The facility itself was clean and inviting."

"My boyfriend stayed at HarborChase of Southlake. They didn't take very good care of him and he ended up in the hospital. They let him get mouth sores all over his mouth and back in his throat and didn't do anything about it. Finally, we got the doctor to prescribe some lidocaine rinse and they didn't give it to him. Then he got a massive urinary tract infection and had to go to the hospital. I don't like anything about it. It's extremely expensive. They charged him a fee to transfer him to the hospital. The aides didn't notify the doctor that he was sick, and he couldn't eat because he had mouth sores for about a week. The food was horrible. We had a Christmas dinner there and it was supposed to be rib roast, and it was so overcooked. I don't think they take very good care of their residents. It's beautiful. He had a really nice apartment. He was only there a short time, and the bill was $20,000, and they charged him extra for everything."

"My mother is at Sunrise of Frisco. As far as I can see from the time I have visited her, it has been clean and it is kept up very well. My mother has her own apartment in the dementia care wing. There had been occasions when I had visited that it wasn't the best; it was not very colorful. However, my mother is basically getting out more. I didn't find her at her apartment when I called. She is doing more things with the other people in the community because she had been just kind of staying in her room and locking the door. Staff can get in and help her with bathing and with meds and stuff, but she really didn't want to go out unless a family was taking her out. So that's a positive change. My mother goes on walks. She is doing more with the group activities that are on the dementia unit. In terms of meals, they have to put portion restrictions on for her because she was kind of eating whatever they offered her to eat and she didn't know when to stop. Most of the folks are trying to get to eat and she doesn't have that problem. However, we had some issues with my mom's behavior sometimes that I don't know if they know how to address. And they need to limit who they have there that they can manage. The facility is very big. It is comfortable and it is homey, but it is very large, and its cost is what my brother and I are having concerns about. "

"My husband had been in a variety of facilities in the past 2 years. It was extremely difficult being a caregiver during that time because of the long distances I had to drive. When Mustang Creek came to the Frisco area it was a lifesaver for my husband and I. The women in House F could not have been more caring to him and to me. Supervisor Magdalena was a wonderful leader, teacher and caregiver. That being said, I saw so many family members must stay involved with their loved ones. The most important care must come from an involved family member. We certainly had our ups and downs but things always got solved as long as I stayed involved. I will always be thankful to Magdalena and her team. "

"Silvermark has become an extension of our family, and most importantly, my Mom is happy there. The owners and management are on site and available. Every single employee, including the executive director and the owners, truly cares for the residents and are involved on a personal level. One of the owners, reads to my Mom. They allow me, and encourage me to bring my dog in to visit. My Mom loves the food and it is clean and bright. It does not smell of industrial pine cleaner, like so many places I looked at."

"I moved into Lake Forest Village. I chose them because of the attitude of all their employees here. They made you feel very comfortable. My apartment is one of the smallest ones, but it's comfortable. The food is excellent. The staff, including everyone I've interacted with, has been very helpful and polite. The facility looks like it's very well-maintained. It seems like they take pride in this place. I haven't gotten into the activities yet, but they have quite a few available to me. As for the value, it's in line with everybody else. It's not overpriced, but it's not underpriced."

"My dad is in the memory care of Mayberry Gardens. I love the general appearance of the place. It has five homes, and there are 15 people in each home. They have a kitchen, an activities/dining table, and a sitting area up front with a TV and a piano. People play the piano occasionally and entertain. They have Dominoes, Bingo, concerts, and movies. I have been pleased with the staff. They all seem friendly and helpful. At this point, I have been very pleased."
