Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has grown in popularity over the last decade and is now home to over 308,000 residents. An estimated 14.2% of Steel City’s citizens are 65 or older, and as they age, Pittsburgh is anticipating their upcoming needs with programs like Health Active Living, whose goal is to ensure seniors live active healthy lives. Citiparks Community Services operates 13 HAL Centers from Monday to Friday all year. Each center tries to improve the seniors’ lives culturally, physically, socially, intellectually, and financially, and also provides a nutritious, low-cost lunch on weekdays for those who need it. Pittsburgh has plenty to offer senior sports fans with college and professional teams in all major fields, including the beloved Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
