My husband has moved into Abode Care of Monroeville assisted living. I was impressed with its front. It's just nice when you walk into the area. His room is spacious. They were able to get him into a semi-private one but nobody else is in there with him so that's a good thing. I would say they're short of staff. They invited us to a gathering there, it was a Thanksgiving dinner, and all the staff from all areas seemed to be there. They were very friendly and helpful but they don't have enough staff at night. They come if you need them, though. They have a thing around my husband's neck and sometimes we call if we want them to do something and they come. Physical therapy is all my husband has been able to do but they have a TV room where people meet. I was told that they have games, too, but he doesn't want to participate in them. The dining area is nice and spacious. The people are not jammed up on each other and they have nice tables. My husband just complains about the food because it seems like it's not freshly cooked. I guess they had it brought in. He is accustomed to home-cooked food so he complains about it.

To me, Abode Care of Monroeville has more of a nursing home/hospital kind of a vibe to it. It's more of a sterile kind of environment. It's all hard flooring. There's no carpeting. It was clean, though. The director was very nice and very knowledgeable. She was receptive to what we were looking for. No complaints about her.

My tour of Abode Care of Monroeville was OK. The girl was very nice, but she wasn't even aware that I was coming. I did have a woman follow up with me and say, "I do apologize. We thought you were supposed to be here on Friday. Would you like to come see it again?" But I just wasn't interested in it because it was more of like a nursing home feel to it as opposed to an assisted living. They seemed to have a nice little dining area. There were people watching TV and stuff, but I didn't really see, like, an activity room. There's like a nice big area when you first walk into the left, it had like a TV. And I think she said they do the activities and stuff there, but she didn't say what activities. They had a library. They don't really have a yard, but they have a nice deck, a beautiful deck. The carts were in the hallway, and you could kind of smell the urine, which is why it gave me more of a nursing home feel to it.

Abode Care of Monroeville is a nice little place that I think I'm going to be very happy with if we can get the details straightened out. It looks like a regular bedroom, a bigger bedroom, and that's what I like about it. They have a lot of amenities. They have an outdoor patio, eating area, and in-house care, which I like. I toured the dining area, it seemed very big, and very nice. The staff was wonderful, one member of the staff I met with was a great lady. The facility's in great shape. The staff is very nice, and it appears to be a great place.

At the top of my list that I found nice was the Abode Care of Monroeville. I've toured their assisted living and, other than the fact that it's one of the more expensive ones, it's quite nice. I think I got a lot of important information from the young lady that I interviewed. I was impressed with the young lady that interviewed me as well as my interviewing them. She had all of her facts and figures right at her fingertips. Her personality was very welcoming. I found the facility to be extremely clean, and well-ordered. The few residents that I did see were out and about. They seemed to be well taken care of, orderly, and pleasant. It isn't a large facility, which I find very appealing. The lady that interviewed me had pointed out the various room arrangements and designs that could be available. What I thought was very, very good and a little amusing was the kitchen. She said, "We don't have a cook. We have a chef" and I thought that was delightful. I'm hoping that my interview will help them a lot because if I can still afford to put either myself or my husband there, I'm hoping it will be available. You have a choice of sharing a room and sharing the bath, or you can have a private room and share the bath, or you can have a private room and a private bath. There are three options. They have an activity area that seems to be actively used. I can't say that I remember a library but there probably is a small one. They have outdoor facilities when the weather permits.

Abode Care of Monroeville staff was very friendly and very cordial, but it was a place in transition. It was kind of run-down. There were a lot of potholes in the road going to the facility. During the drive, there were a lot of holes in the road. It was hard to navigate and the exterior needed care. They were in the process of updating the interior. They did not have any security in place. They were very nice people, but it was not run well. We saw assisted living and they also have independent living there. A couple was walking around with their dog that lived there, so I'm assuming they were independent and just living there. The staff was very kind and very helpful during our tour. They just didn't seem to have everything in place and didn't seem to have everything organized. They seemed to be in the process of figuring it all out. I know they are putting money into updating it, but it wasn't very nice yet. We saw people eating and they seemed to enjoy it. They told us that they were bringing on a new chef who was a 5-star chef and that he cooked for governors. That was what they told us, but we have no verification of that.

My Mother, (Lucille) was a resident of Abode Care of Monroeville, Pa. for 2 years after living in her own home for 65 years and was 98 years old when she went to Abode, She had been living alone and was very depressed and difficult, whereas, once she moved into Abode it was amazing her turnaround in all aspects and loved the staff and residents which she then called her home! She was the most happy in the past 20 years the last two years of her life that she lived at Abode, The staff, facility and all the little personal extras they give is the best value and peace of mind one could have for their loved ones in the care provided by Abode. It was a very nice place. They were very caring. It is 1-floor, so everything is on 1-floor. They have a dining room and a library room. It was very nice. My mom said she doesn’t like the food, but she has dementia. They have an activity room, they have a priest coming in, and they have services for patients. They have a dining room with a big TV. It’s very nice.

Small, homey, responsive. I debated between 4 and 5 stars.
