Assisted Living Communities in Lower Burrell, PA

"My daughter and I went on a tour of Magnolia Place of Saxonburg. I liked everything I saw there. I liked it because the place is absolutely beautiful. It's all new. They have remodeled or renovated the whole place, and everything is new. It's bright. It's cheerful. The girl was pleasant. She showed us what the menus are for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and took us into different rooms, private rooms. The day we were there, they had dog therapy day, and there were like four dogs that came in, and the patients just loved the dog therapy. One thing I liked about it, they have a secured outside area where the patients can go out and sit them in the garden and relax. The whole place appealed to me. And it's close for me. The girl told us a lot of information about the patients there. The staff ratio is really good from what she told me, and I was just impressed with it. It was just a nice place."

"The rooms that they showed us at Graceful Care Living just had a bed in them, and that's it. We knew immediately when we got there that that wasn't what we were looking for. The staff mentioned that they have another section for people who are more independent. However, it was still somewhat the same concept. Instead of being in a room, like a small, single room, there were two beds. There was no television in those independent rooms. You have to go out of the room to watch television. It was that type of atmosphere, and my mother doesn't want that. She wants something that's like a small apartment, where she can live in that small space and be able to care for herself. I liked the atmosphere. I liked the staff. They're very nice and very accommodating as we went through the tour. My mom asked questions, although she didn't ask very many because she knew, and I could tell just from how she was withdrawn that she was like, "No, this is not going to work for me." I said it to the guy. I said, she's a lot more independent. She can get around fairly well, but this is not for her. She still needs to be in her own place where she can take care of herself. The only thing that she needed was somebody to help her, like to come in and help her to make sure that she's taking her meds. I didn't smell anything. It was very clean."

"We visited Juniper Village at Forest Hills and it just seemed very nice. They had a lot of activities to keep my grandfather busy. The staff members were very friendly and helpful. They have a dining area that is open 24 hours. The facility is clean and well kept."

"What a difference with the new management! It's totally different than before and I am extremely pleased now. The care and health protocols provided now give me comfort. The staff is pleasant and accommodating. I'm glad that I decided to keep my dad here. I would highly recommend this facility as my dad is very happy here and I'm even happier. "

"My mom is at the place called The Haven. It is nice for the price, which is reasonable: $3,000 for rent; and maybe $250 for the level of care; and $20 for table. It is well kept with nice people and good food. The rooms are large. "

"Ashton Commons Senior Living is the perfect place that I want to live. I love it there. It's pretty. It has a nice little house with a washer and dryer. They have a little garage on the side. There are two bedrooms. They have grass and nice flowers and everything. I toured the whole inside, the restaurant, the entertainment area, all the stuff that they do, and they have a church there, which I would love to get involved in. It's just perfect. The houses are outside the building. They have availability, but I can't afford $4,200. You could walk right in your front door. It's all on one floor. They have everything and it's so nice. The ladies were so nice. There's a restaurant where you can eat, and there's a little entertainment section. They have alcohol and all that, but I don't drink at all. The staff member showed me the church, and they have non-denominational Christians and different religions that you can go and worship, and it's right there walking distance for me to get there. My dog is my service dog. All the ladies loved my little dog. I would give anything to stay there. The people I spoke with were so kind and so open and they wanted to help me. They told me the name of the director that I would be working with. I felt very safe there. It's new and it's clean. They have independent apartments upstairs, but I would prefer having my own to put my car in a garage, and be able to live in my own home, and it's small and nice. There were no steps. I talked to some of the ladies, and I did look at some of the entrees, and they looked very plentiful. It looked like they make nice, good food there."

"My aunt is at Sycamore Estate Inc. I was very impressed with it. It was very bright, very clean, comfortable, and very welcoming to my aunt, which was very reassuring for us. They helped her settle in very well. They provided all of the services that we were looking for at a very good price, and she is happy there. She says that the food is quite good. She has a shared room, and it was very neat and comfortable. It looked very nice to me, but they were doing renovations to put in a lot of improvements, which I thought was really impressive. It's a very well-kept and well-run facility. The staff is very professional, very knowledgeable, very friendly, accessible, and responsive. She is such a picky eater, and she has not offered any complaints."

"Mom moved into Sterling Home last September. The place is nice and the rooms are decent. The only thing I have is that if you want a room with a bathroom, you have to pay more. If not, you have to use the community bathroom. I like the staff. They do care about the residents, and I've never seen them mistreat anyone. I know that my mother has never felt mistreated. As far as the services, they wash her clothes, make sure that she gets her meds, and they provide her with meals. I'm pretty much satisfied with the services that she receives. There are no activities going on there. They are indicating that most of the residents don't want to participate. The dining area is clean, but I think the selection could be better."

"My mom joined the Whitetail community 2 months ago. We were worried about her adjusting and making friends but the staff made her feel welcomed and assisted with her adjustment. She has made friends and participates in different activities. The staff has been wonderful with letting us know how she is doing, what she needs and knowing if she is just no herself. I would recommend Whitetail to anyone who is looking for a place that truly gets to know their residents and only deals with memory care."

"I like Mount Vernon of Elizabeth because it's close to where I live. It was just a nice facility. The staff were also nice. They took us around and showed us the room. It's really friendly for seniors and people who have had a stroke. They keep them secure so they can't get out or wander. They have a lot of activities. "

"I’m here at Paramount Senior Living at South Hills. I have a large one-bedroom with a lot of furniture from home. It may not have the menus that other places have but here you have room. They have a gazebo, nice grounds, a lot of bingo, and poker some nights. They have a little garden club, and the other day, we went to the meadow. They go to Walmart once in a while. There’s a doctor across the street but the doctor I go to weekly is in Coraopolis and the daughter of one of the aides here drives me to Coraopolis and back. They serve three meals."

"We've been very pleased with Paramount Senior Living-Bethel. The price was good, the facility was good, and they seemed to know their residents. The process of applying was relatively simple. They have a nice activities area where they show movies, and they have a couple nice lounge areas where people can sit and talk and have get togethers, like ice cream socials and happy hour. They have a little cafe type setting where there's coffee, water, juices, and fruits available all the time. They offer transportation. They have a beauty parlor, a podiatrist, a doctor that comes in, and nurses on each floor. It's very well kept, very open, there are a lot of windows, it's bright and cheery, the dining area is quite beautiful, and well kept, with linens on the table, and the food is good. I stayed there for two days to help acclimate my aunt who has Alzheimer's. I was there 24/7 and everybody worked really hard. There was nobody sitting around just chatting. They were very friendly and caring, and went out of their way to come and introduce themselves. She's in the independent care with just some medication management."
