Caring and Loving Wife

The care workers leave the residents in the same diaper all day. My husband has diaper rash because nobody wants to change his clothes. This goes on every day.

I chose Menorah Park for my wife because of its professionalism, its cleanliness, and the services it provides. The place is very large and decorated well with nice bright colors. The staff is very attentive and they know my wife very well. They know her adequacies and inadequacies. They welcome our family. They update me weekly on what's going on. My wife is busy all day. They exercise every morning. They have cooking classes and musical presentations. They take them out on outings almost every 10 days.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom went to Menorah Park for rehab. I wasn't satisfied with them. They were not helpful. They didn't do the job. They wouldn't come around and do the actual help of feeding. My mother had gotten to where she couldn't even hold a spoon or anything. They would just come and place the tray in front of them and walk out. It even got to a point where she was rushed to emergency one night, and she stayed there for two days. When she came back, it was like 12 hours before the head nurse on staff handed her pain medication. And I kept calling around asking when is she going to get her medicine. So I explained to them then how unhappy and unsatisfied I was about the situation. I felt like someone there could have been able to administer her meds and I let them know for my mom for 12 hours waiting on medicine and I'm listening to my mother cry out for help, it was just horrible to me. As far as the cleaning staff is concerned, they did well. They were awesome. They made sure that the room was clean, and the building was clean. When I went there I never saw the building dirty, not even the elevators. I like the security that they have, too. At certain times, you can't even get in the building unless the security guard lets you in. You're not allowed to take any food into the building , but if you eat from the restaurant there, they're so expensive that you have to make sure you spend it wisely. The soda machines and the snack machines may work, or they may not. Once when we had taken my mom into the recreational area and one of the patients somehow ended up scratching one of the nurse's aides, and the nurse's aide started yelling, 'OK, you scratched me, you scratched me! You got one more time, you got one more time to do it. She scratched me. Let me get out and smoke a cigarette, but you got one more time. I'm telling you.' And I was like what's going to happen if she happens to do it again? So that was kind of concerning to me. I don't feel like they don't have the level of tolerance for patients to be in that particular field because each one of those patients, they all have their own personality. Some of them may be experiencing some anxiety or maybe be a little mental or something going on and they may strike out. And I'm thinking if they've been trained in this before and to continue training about this kind of stuff, then you should be able to handle that in a more professional way.

The rooms are ok. The care is insufficient. They are very short staffed. They lose everything including her dentures and glasses. Mom had a nasty looking lump on her leg which none of the staff noticed. Supposedly they check the residents' skin twice a week! Fortunately we noticed it on a visit and were able to get her seen by her dermatologist. She just sits in the common dining room all day with the television on.

Menorah Park was good. The staff was good and caring. The room was clean, and the food was average. They have good activities, and I like the activities of the physical therapist there; it was good for my mother.

I visited this facility

I visited Menorah Park Center a lot of times because my mother-in-law is there. It's a very big facility. They have the entire spectrum of care there. From people that are bedridden or couldn't get out of a wheelchair, to people who could move around. They have a little nature park, like a little zoo with birds and some petting animals. They also bring in animals, like dogs wearing costumes. They have very simple rooms. A lot of their rooms didn't have doors that closed on them. All rooms are open. The problem is with people going to the wrong rooms. They also seem to have a large number of activities to entertain the residents and keep them occupied.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Menorah Park is a fantastic facility. They not only have the nursing home portion of it, but they also have assisted living and independent living portions on the property as well as an on site day care and water rehabilitation center on premises. I was thoroughly impressed. The premises are beautiful and they have a lot of pride on keeping the property clean. This seems to be a place that I would not mind to be at if I should ever need to be in a nursing home myself. I went to Menorah Park to visit a long time friend of my mother's, after my mother passed away. I wanted to share some memories with her and cheer her right up. I looked for signs of mistreatment, but found none whatsoever. The nursing assistants and nurses were unbeliveably kind to me and my mother's friend and I was happy to see that she was taken care of and in good hands. I suppose my only negative thoughts towards the facility is that they need more activities for the people who stay there. I came around 8 am an d they woke her up, gave her a bath and sat her at the breakfast table and she sat at that breakfast table until almost noon. I wasn't too happy about that, but I know while they sit they are getting other residents ready for the day. I just feel that is a little too long to keep them sitting there inactive, unfortunately. Overall though, it is a fantastic, beautiful and clean property and I would be happy to stay there myself if the day ever arised.
