The Best Nursing Home Communities in Bernalillo County, NM

"Wonderful facility, very clean, nicely updated on both the interior and exterior! Tiffany helped place my family member, arranged a private, very updated and modern room and did an excellent job. At times my family member can be somewhat demanding and want immediate attention but the nursing staff were patient and made sure all of our needs were met. My only suggestion would be to increase the security factor at the front door. Again, my greatest compliments to Tiffany and the staff at St. Theresa's! "

"My father is in Sandia Ridge Center. He is in rehab, and it's a decent place for it, although I wouldn't put him in the nursing home over there as they have too many people. He also doesn't have a private room. He's sharing it; there are two beds there, and it's small. The upkeep is fine, though. The people who work there are very helpful. They call me when they have to administer meds and make sure that they're the right meds. I spoke to the social worker yesterday, and he's really nice, too. The nurse kept me informed of everything. I didn't have any issues with any of them. Yesterday, they allowed him to get into a wheelchair and go outside. When he was coming in, he got off the chair and fell, and they called me as soon as it happened. They also informed me right away of any changes. They're really good, communication-wise. I've seen what they give my father to eat, and he actually enjoys it. He finishes his food, and it looks very good. He's been doing okay with the activities and with his physical therapy. He has issues with the fall, so they're working on his balance, and they're also working on getting him to use a walker. The parking is close to the building, so you don't have to walk a long distance. That's good because my mother also has issues walking far, so it's convenient when she comes to visit."

"Princeton Place seems really nice. They both have an assisted living and rehabilitation center. The staff is really nice and helpful. They seem to take really good care of the residents. What I like about it is they keep the place really, really clean. The rooms have a bathroom and it's always clean. The food was pretty good, too. "

"My mother was placed there after breaking her hip. The staff is very lazy, and when paged for pain meds would take hours. The place is clean. She became very constipated and they neglected the fact that she was on strong pain meds and became impacted twice while there and they still did not address the issue. The food is absolutely terrible. Some nurses were very kind and nice, others were not. The rehab was suppose to happen twice daily and most times it did not. Would never allow my mother to go to this facility again. "

"The nurses there were very caring to dad. The therapy department made him work hard, they tired him out and the nursing staff spoiled him. He walked out after breaking a hip with a walker and now lives in assisted living. The nurses were loving and spent time getting to know him as a person and not patient #101-2. Never having had experienced a nursing home/skilled therapy stay it was the people who worked there that made the experience pleasant. I saw the same nurse every day and knew the nurse who covered her days off. The aides and nurses were happy and smiled a lot. I got to know them by name and it made it seem like a family environment instead of a nursing home. I still visit from time to time just to take dad and update the nurses on how dad is doing. My dad was there on a skilled therapy visit and discharged after 19 days, they helped me find the right assisted living for him and made the transition smooth. If dad ever needs that kind of care again, we will go back to Canyon. I referred a church member who also had a good experience and decided to leave her loved one there in the nursing home hall. I think the people there care about the patients and put a lot of effort to treat them as individuals. The nurses there touched my heart and made a difference in that difficult time of my life. Even though there is no place like home they did make my dad feel like he was one of their family members. Highly recommend "

"My husband fell and broke his arm which required three weeks of PT at Las Palomas. I visited him everyday--he was always clean, his room was orderly and well maintained, and his meals were tasty and nutritious. The therapists, nurses, and aides were professional, responsive, and friendly. I have to admit that I was very apprehensive about this nursing home after I read the negative reviews. However, my husband was well taken care of. He is coming home in good shape, thanks to the care he received at Las Palomas. My thanks to all who worked daily with him. As far as I am concerned, the workers never get enough of the credit. "

"We have friends in La Vida Llena. It's very nice. My friends are very happy there. The wife has developed memory issues but she is well taken care of. She is very happy about that. One time they invited us to have dinner with them, and the food was pretty good. They have different restaurants, so you could pick anything you want. I think it is very good because if you have only one place to eat, no matter how good the chef is, you're going to be tired of the food repeating and repeating. I saw the schedule and the whole week is full of activities."

"I visited my mother at Avamere Rehab at Fiesta Park through the window of her room. We talked through our cell phones. They gave her excellent care and excellent support. It was a very helpful place. She said they treated her very well, and they were very attentive and good to her. She didn't have any complaints. I had meetings with her doctor and her case manager, and everybody was very attentive, pleasant, and helpful. She had her own room, and it seemed very nice. It had a hospital bed in it, and she had her things that I brought to her. She said it was clean, and she liked it. She liked the food, and she could have all she wanted to eat and more. She was very happy with that. It was very nice, well designed, looked accessible, looked very pleasant, and was very well run; the people were very responsive."

"Recently I had to put my husband in this facility due to his illness. It was quite overwelming for me to take care ofhim on my own. The location is perfect. I live right across the street in an apartment complex and the staff is very welcoming. I can visit every day... The stores are really close less than 2 blocks away. he is vet and uses the VA facility and they have no problems taking him to his appts. As well the staff is very understanding to each patients needs and are there for them . I personaly would not have him in there if I did not feel comfortable . He also feels comfortable and has been more relaxed since his move 6 months ago "

"My mother was in Skies for 21 days after her hospital stay. My dad had also been there for 3 years prior to mom going there. The staff were all nice. Dad passed away, but they did the best they could. There were some okay times. We had barbecue for lunch there a few times. It wasn't all bad. "

"My mother broke her him last November and chose to rehabilitate at Skies Rehabilitation in Albuquerque, NM. Her first two days there I became very worried because she seemed so out of it. My mother had all her faculties so when she didn't know who I was and was slurring her words, I became alarmed. I told the nurse she was not some old person who had lost her memory and that it was very out of character for her. I had to feed her because she couldn't even feed herself. It took me hanging out for long periods of time to get to talk with the Dr. on call. Once I explained my mother was not normally this way, he adjusted her pain medications. Come to find out her liver was not processing pain medicine like most and it lingered in her system longer then usual. Once her pain medicine was adjusted, she was my same old mother again! "
