My mother was in Ladera Care and Rehabilitation Center. They were very good, it was excellent. They were very caring and they took good care of my mother. They were very kind and they had her very clean, and the whole place was clean. They accommodated us very well, and my siblings. I haven't eaten there but I saw what they fed her. The value for the money is excellent.

Ladera's got good reviews and that's the reason I moved my wife there. She was in another one and it didn't have great reviews. They have a nurse there that I really didn't know, but he was real friendly, his name is Bill. He is really knowledgeable and professional and he told me, "Call me anytime you want. I'll talk to you and tell you how she's doing." So I've been talking to him. I've had window visits; they don't let anybody in because of the virus. She's getting a lot of therapy and she's doing better. She was out of it for a while, probably four or five days, she was just so bad, she was just sleeping, but now she's up. Yesterday she started having a better day, and he called me today and said they're gonna move her into another room because she's doing great. So far I've had good attention with this nursing home. I am able to speak to her. The early one that she was at, they wouldn't even answer their phone. I get to speak with somebody and they call me if they have any changes, like a room change. It's an older building. My cousin was there years ago but it was maintained pretty good and they have a lot of safety precautions from the virus, like they can bring a patient outside but they have this plastic between the patient and the family. You can see them and talk to them but you can't touch them. I think that's a good feature.

I have lived in this facility for well over five years; as a paraplegic, I require constant care. I have been here through three administrators, three dietary managers and two directors of nursing. I felt I should report from a patient point of view, that things are improving all around. The food is better. Two nurse unit managers now have responsibility for aides and nurses and their respective sides of the building. There is a serious shortage of medical staff in New Mexico, and this means there is a lot of turnover as people look around for better paid employment-- but a good wage is something that is controlled not by Ladera administration but by Genesis management. Here at Ladera the administration seems to gradually be eliminating the bad apples, not that there have been many. The front line, the CNA's, the ones who do the hands-on work with us residents, are gold.

I went to a Genesis on Ladera (Ladera Care and Rehabilitation Center). It was exactly the same as the one in Rio Rancho, only it’s a newer building. Things were cleaner, but they still doubled up on the rooms. You would get into traffic jams in a hallway with people. The staff seemed very nice. I saw people mulling around outside, so I didn’t think it was that secure. They had an inside courtyard where people were allowed to go. They did have a fitness center. I don’t think the value is that good because they still don’t have the number of caregivers that they need.

If I could give this place a negative review I would. Horrible care!!!!! Avoid at all costs! I am a registered nurse and when my grandmother was sent there after a fall she only got worse. Because of their obvious neglect she deleveloped two bed sores and a horrible urinary tract infection that led her to be hospitalized again. They only provide care when told to do so, never turning her when they should and obvious neglect when family wasn't watching over them. Forget about nurses for anything because they have no idea what's going on nor do their answers make sense medically. No idea how they passed nursing school.

I remember that the staff was friendly, and the nursing home was well-lit. There was a strange odor, but nothing really foul or disturbing. The people there seemed happy enough, but they definitely brightened up when they had the opportunity to listen to music and singing. The rooms were relatively small, and most people had added a personal touch to their room. The common area was pretty spacious, and I saw many members of the nursing staff attend to the tenants with care and patience. For the most part, the nursing home was clean, and the rooms and the restrooms were obviously used often but not very dirty either. My personal opinion is I would recommend this nursing home to someone I know, but I would definitely be sure to visit my loved ones often. I have seen other facilities that have a lot to offer to stimulate the tenants and entertain them, but Ladera did not seem to have much to offer except for quality care, at least 10+ years ago when I went there. People, even the old and sick, really need challenges and diversions, or else they really do get sad and lonely.
