Nursing Home Communities in Hazel Crest, IL

"In general, I think that this is a beautiful facility, obviously upscale, but in extremely good taste. There is a library and a little shopping area with candy and jewelry. There is a very nice dining area. The lobby is spacious and comfortable. The receptionist is friendly and helpful. The one draw back is the parking in the back of the building, which is often full and it is hard to find parking on the street. This is definately an urban setting. Many of the patients are Holocaust survivors. The staff are very helpful and will work with the patient and the family if there are financial or other problems. The facility offers an array of activities -- opera programs, ice cream socials, current events, etc. The facility also provides religious programming and services for the mainly Jewish population. There are individual apartments where residents can live in an independent living situation. There is also continued care and nursing home facility on other floors. On the top floor is a lovely activity room with glass windows. Sometimes there is a pianist who plays music. Patients can go up and get an icecream cone or can go out on the roof patio when the weather is nice. I would highly recommend this facility. The patients that I talked to seemed happy because there are many activities that are offered. "

"Norwood Crossing was very nice. I liked their program. It wasn't as large as I would like it to be, but everything seemed pretty good. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, went over everything with us, and showed us the whole place. It's a good experience. The dining area was nice, clean, and well-lit enough."

"My father was on the first floor. He wandered out of the facility, fell, and broke his hip which required surgery. When back in the facility, he was left laying and developed terrible bed sores which put him back in the hospital. Those bed sores got infected, infection went into his leg, and gangrene set in. He later died from the gangrene. That was several years ago and sure hope they now take better care of their patients."

"I visited my love one there by the name of F.B she is a trach patient there on the second floor. I had encountered with nurse glenda, Cna april and their manger meiata. They were all helpful especially the manger. I could go to the manger and she would stop what she was doing and assist me whenever I needed her. She was so kind, this is my first time having my love one in a facility like this. I was nervous at first because I didn’t know what to expect. But the manger made me feel welcomed! My love one is doing great! Everyday she up and dressed as if she would be on a regular. The staff there is polite and professional. april is a great cna and glenda is a excellent nurse! Kudos to there manger and her team on the second floor!"

"Our experience having my mom here has been good so far. They take her into therapy, they help her with walking, and getting her back into daily life. It's clean and doesn't have that odor or smell when you walk in. The staff is nice and friendly."

"I had my rehab in Oak Forest Hospital where I stayed for two months. It was a clean and nice facility. Considering that I just had a stroke, everything seemed and appeared to be wonderful. I had no complaints. I had a very positive experience with that particular rehab. The staff was good. They helped me daily with my rehabilitation. Everything was good. "

"It was much better than I last remember. It used to be horrible. It smelled really bad now it's so clean and the staff is friendly. They take good care of the old people there. They look like they enjoy living there. I visited with my friend and she was going to see her mom. "

"Prairie Manor was a nice facility. It was clean and the staff was friendly. The activities were posted. The rooms were decent and the food looked okay. "

"I appreciated the warm ambiance and professional, caring staff of the Applewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Matteson, Illinois where my ailing grandmother-in-law received treatment following a massive stroke. When I entered the doors, I was greeted with smiles from employees and a clean environment. As with other nursing facilities, there was security personnel in the atrium who verified identification for each visitor. It was nice that people could not just saunter in off the street. My grandmother-in-law's room and bed linen was clean each time I visited Applewood, regardless to the time of day. Furthermore, during my visits, I never failed to see a nurse or other licensed employee come in to check on her. It was apparent that my grandmother-in-law was in good hands at Applewood and she never complained about the treatment she received there."

"My brother will be moving into Elevate Care South Holland. The whole place was clean, and I liked the personality of the staff. I just liked the setup of the facility. There were 2 people in a room, but they had private rooms, too. I saw them doing physical therapy in the physical therapy room downstairs, and they were also doing physical therapy with some of the residents in the bedrooms. They also had activity rooms. The family could come and be with them down there. Everything looked clean and organized. They could have their meals in their rooms or they could come down to the common area and eat. I did see some of the residents sitting outside in the front garden area in wheelchairs."

"My mother was at Crestwood Care Centre. She had Alzheimer's and they did have a special floor for just Alzheimer's patients where they have a little extra staff and everything. The facility seemed very clean. There were two or three beds in every room, but my mother only had to share the room with one other person. The staff was wonderful. They were so gentle with my mother and very caring. If she had a slightest fall or anything, they called me immediately. If I wasn't there to feed her, they always had an aide to help her. Food smelled good. Regarding activities, they did not do too much. They did have different activities and they would try to get her to participate in some. My mother would do okay with that. The dining area looked nice and there was plenty of room. One thing I was impressed about it is that there was plenty of room in between the tables for people like if they have a wheelchair, you can maneuver a wheelchair through there if you had to. I would recommend this facility to anyone. When my mom turned 95, they had a few people come in and they had a special room over there where they had a little birthday party for her. They supplied the coffee and stuff for us. They made you feel they actually care about their patients. The morning that they called me when my mother had taken the turn for the worst, they thought that it was the end of her. So they put her in a room by herself where we could all come in. We had the privacy of that room at that time and every one of the staff, they kept coming every little while to tell me how it was a pleasure to have taken care of my mother and they just made me feel really good. They were giving me a hug at that time and were so sorry about that. They were just so wonderful. Also several of them came to my mother's wake. "

"I used to go spend time there as a child and lead holiday games with the residents. I remember it being a higher security building because of the number of younger patients there. It was a rather tall building and I accidentally went to high up in the elevator getting ready for the Easter egg hunt. I had been putting posters up all through the building. I was later supposed to hide eggs outside. As soon as I got out of the elevator, I was stopped by the nurse and they explained why I could not enter the floor. I remember it being a clean, larger facility with a lot of land attached to it. There was plenty of outdoor space for residents. In comparison to other facilities is was much more friendly and brighter. Though the surrounding neighborhood leaves something to be desired. I would be careful going to and from the facility. "

"I toured Glenwood Healthcare & Rehab when I was looking for a place for my mother. The place was very good and seemed to be very accommodating. They had numerous activities for the residents to participate in, went out for dinner or lunch, and played games. "
