Nursing Home Communities in Blue Island, IL

"This review is for the Norwood Crossing assisted living facility (rather than the nursing home). We first noticed the building from the street since we live in the area. We thought it was a private school or condo development, because the front foliage was so lovely. But we were glad to discover that it offered assisted living, since we needed to find a local place for our great-aunt to live. The "memory support garden" in the interior is ample, convenient to the rest of the buildings, but still tranquil. Our aunt used to do a lot of gardening, so she really liked that aspect. The one bedrooms are a nice size, with hardwood floors and carpeting, large enough for a relative's occasional overnight stay. However, the bathrooms in some are off of the bedroom, which could be awkward for guests. The kitchenette opens to the living area, which is nice and bright. The common eating area resembles a casual restaurant with plenty of space between tables. The food we sampled was quite good - at least restaurant quality. The snacks looked really good and are offered all of the time. The piano room has large glass windows with a beautiful view of the center courtyard. Another gathering area resembles a large drawing room with comfortable chairs. There are plenty of staff and trained nurses to provide whatever level of care is required. We were told there is a book club and they make regular library trips, which our aunt really likes since she is an avid reader. They have many exercise programs, live events and other scheduled activities and outings. We could tell by how the residents appeared that they were very well-cared for."

"My client is at Crown Point Christian Village. They have activities going on every single day. They know the residents and care about them. They call the residents by name. They even recognize me. These people know exactly who everybody is, and I like that. They get them up there, interacting with everybody on a daily basis. I see a dramatic increase in my client's momentum, her thinking, and everything else within a short period of time. She's been happy. Her room is a little small. She's sharing a double room. The window side of the room is much bigger than what she has, which is the door side, but it's very accommodating. The facility is very clean. It's a fairly new facility. She says the food is good. They have physical therapy, and it's quite adequate. They're consistently encouraging the residents to keep doing as much as they can. So far, I have zero complaints with this facility. I was very impressed. The only bad thing for me is the drive. It's a very small community. It's very friendly. I highly recommend it to anyone. They're on the expensive side. They do accept Medicaid as well as private pay."

"I used to go spend time there as a child and lead holiday games with the residents. I remember it being a higher security building because of the number of younger patients there. It was a rather tall building and I accidentally went to high up in the elevator getting ready for the Easter egg hunt. I had been putting posters up all through the building. I was later supposed to hide eggs outside. As soon as I got out of the elevator, I was stopped by the nurse and they explained why I could not enter the floor. I remember it being a clean, larger facility with a lot of land attached to it. There was plenty of outdoor space for residents. In comparison to other facilities is was much more friendly and brighter. Though the surrounding neighborhood leaves something to be desired. I would be careful going to and from the facility. "

"This place is horrible! I visited my neighbor and could not believe how this person was living if thats what you can even call it. He was naked and full of feces. His blanket was wet and on the floor. He had no pillow or even any clothes to wear. We asked a nurse to come clean him up and take care of him and she said shed be back and we never saw her again. The rooms have furniture that is falling apart. Closet doors that are broken. Tiles missing in the bathroom and drapes that look like they were never cleaned. Forget trying to call to check on your loved one. No one answers the phone. We got a call stating that he was being taken to the ER and that someone would follow up. Never said why or even what hospital. After waiting 2 hours and no call, we repeatedly tried calling and the phone rings until you are hung up on. We had to call the surrounding hospital ERs to even find out what hospital he was taken to ourselves only to find out he had passed hours ago. The hospital didnt contact us because they were not provided any next of kin information to contact his wife to tell her that he had died! No excuse for this, he was a human being! This place needs to be held accountable for laziness and not caring."

"I have been in their alzheimer's support group for 2 years. Diane is the coordinator and her very caring and wonderfully heartfelt attitude is genuine. Everyone is super friendly and nice. I know people who live in the alzheimer's unit as well as the assisted living section. It is bright, modern, and a beautiful place to live. The residents are well cared for and the food is very good. Many programs. Of course no place is perfect, but this one is worth checking out! "

"This facility located is located on the south side of chicago. The facility in under new management, and staff appear to be very caring to the residents. The grounds are attractive, and the colors in the building are warm and inviting. The staff greeted me in a warm professional manner upon entering the building. I would rank this facility 4 out of 5 stars. "

"Our experience with Crestwood Rehabilitation Center has been very good. The people have been excellent. They are attentive and caring. It's a clean facility and they're responsive to any concerns that I may bring up. They listen to my husband when he talks. Staffing is very good. All the meals are also good. My husband has a nice, large double room with a roommate, and it's big enough for two people to have space. He's by the window so he gets a lot of sunshine. It's a nice clean facility. It's not old, but it's about mid range, and it's worth the money of having him stay there."

"On our inquiry of Evergreen, they made wonderful promises with regards to my father's needs that's why we placed him there for a rehab. The facility was nice and clean. It also smelled good. It seemed that they have an attentive staff. However, when I go and visit him, he was just there lying in his bed. He got tired of lying and watching TV that he told me, "I'm not moving, I'm not doing nothing." I asked them why weren't they teaching him how to walk with a walker and why wasn't he in therapy? They said, "Well, he's at risk for falling." I thought if he was going to fall somewhere, it might as well be there, not at home. That's why he was there in the first place - for therapy. I checked this rehab center out on the internet and it seemed like a wonderful place; however, that wasn't the case with my dad. "

"It looks very nice from the outside as well as inside. My brother's room is spacious and very clean. The closet space and the bathroom is clean. I like the dining room area. "

"My mother is in rehab at Southpoint. We haven't had any complaints. Every now and then someone sneaks in her room and takes her chocolate. Other than that, she gets rehab twice a week, and they have a good staff there. They're caring and attentive. I go there a lot when she's having lunch. It's like eating at Denny's. Some of the residents will go up and sing, or they'll bring in people to do some type of entertainment."

"I had my rehab in Oak Forest Hospital where I stayed for two months. It was a clean and nice facility. Considering that I just had a stroke, everything seemed and appeared to be wonderful. I had no complaints. I had a very positive experience with that particular rehab. The staff was good. They helped me daily with my rehabilitation. Everything was good. "

"Grandmother was her for 7 years, and in that time she had the same 2 - 10 nurse and most of her CNAs were the same. It really was like an extended family. "

"My sister is at Elevate Care South Holland. It is okay. It is sort of different to move from independent to dependent care. So far, this facility has met expectations as far as making sure that the residents are taken care of. They have activities for them, and they provide the services that they need. The food looks pretty decent. They're standard meals. It is OK. The staff members have been very nice and friendly. They're OK. For activities, my sister said that they get them up, and they participate, and they do some fun things. She sounds very happy about that."
