"I visited countless facilities prior to choosing Gardens of Statesville for my mom. Although it was a hard decision to place mom in an Assisted Living Facility, myself along with my family decided I could no longer provide the care she needed at home mainly for her own safety. The moment I walked into the Gardens a calm came over me. After meeting with the team, (Jason, Mechelle, Cyndi, Holly) touring amazingly clean, secure facility, meeting residents and hearing their opinions and happiness in their voices, learning about the activities, enjoying the sampling of the food I knew it would be perfect! The rooms are spacious, we were even able to bring mom’s furniture so it feels like home, not institutional. The pandemic has of course put a damper on visitation, activities but the team makes every effort to engage residents in daily activities. They follow all guidelines to keep residents and themselves safe. For that I am grateful. They keep me informed via email or phone calls with anything to do with Mom or The Gardens in general. We receive a Monthly Newsletter keeping us informed on activities as well and menu which has so many options available. They even have an iPad for the team to bring to mom and FaceTime family during these tough times! If you are as undecided about bringing your loved one to an Assisted Facility like I was, you won’t even hesitate once you see love, compassion, state of art facility the Gardens of Statesville offers. "

"We toured Brookdale Lenoir. The apartments were very nice. The gentleman who was showing us around was awesome. He had all the information and the questions he could answer for us. In the other facility, you could get in the cafeteria, sit at a restaurant-style table, and they would take your order. The one in Brookdale Lenoir didn't quite offer that many amenities, but everything was great about it. If my dad could do more on his own, cooking, everything, that would be a perfect place, but we wanted a place with more meals and everything. There was nothing at all wrong with the apartments or anything in itself. Everything was very nice and organized, and the people there were very nice."

"Carillon Assisted Living was beautiful. They had a little bit more features, but it was about $2000 more a month, but they did everything there. It was just like walking into a very famous hotel, but it didn't look anything like it. All the glitter and fancy stuff, it was very, very beautiful. It was overwhelmingly beautiful. The only thing they did that I didn't like is they pushed me for finances, i.e., for me to go and get money for my mother from whomever I could, and I didn't like that at all. The other places didn't do that. Also they said they would call me back in a week, but they never called me back. Their surroundings and their rooms were absolutely beautiful. "

"My father is in memory care at Peninsula Family Care Home, and it's very good. The rooms were very nice, furnished, and very clean. This is a small six-bed family home. It has a family room, a bedroom, a kitchen, and a breakfast area. The staff is very good. Because it's small with only six beds, it's very individualized type of care. There are no amenities. They have some activities that they try to do with the residents, such as playing some games or doing puzzles or something, but it's not like your typical assisted living that has 100 beds or so."

"Burke Long Term Care was not what I was expecting. The pictures on there didn't accurately represent what was inside the place. I realized it was a small facility, but at the same time, it woulldn't meet what my father needed. The place was clean, and the outside was clean as well. They're all shared rooms. There are no single rooms or anything like that. The staff was really nice, and she took me on a tour of the facility. They have a sitting room. There weren't many people in there, maybe two people, and that was it. They weren't cooking food at the time I was there, and the cafeteria is almost similar to a high school cafeteria. They don't have regular seats. They just have those barstool chairs, the round ones, with no backs on them, so I'm not sure how the residents can sit there and comfortably eat."

"We toured Cadence Huntersville. There were a lot of things that I liked about it, but I liked the friendliness of the staff. I liked the cleanliness of it. I liked all the activities that they had there. It just seems like a very family-orientated community. We did get a chance to meet the chef, and we were very impressed with the chef. We looked at the studio plus the kitchenette."

"My friend has stayed at Austin several times and I have visited there many times. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are no foul odors and that impressed me. My friend says that the food is better than any where else he has ever stayed and they can have seconds if they want. The food certainly smelled good when I was there. Most of the folks that live there are up and about and there is a friendly atmosphere. I would have no hesitation recommending this home. "

"I did a tour of TerraBella Newton. We didn't have much interaction with the staff. They do have private and semi-private rooms, and they do have a Memory Care Unit. it's a nice facility. They had a courtyard, but I don't remember a library."

"GraceView Homes is the only one I'm interested in. I like the concept of it being a small facility. To me, that leaves more one-on-one time for each resident. They do not let the residents just sleep in bed all day long, which I was very glad to hear. I was glad to hear that they offer home-cooked meals of some of their favorite meals. There were just a lot of positive vibes from the whole situation and knowing that it's owned by a local pharmacist. The dining area was fine. It was right in the kitchen. I was in the common area, and the couches and chairs there were very dirty. But the rest of the place looks clean. The kitchen was clean. The driveway needs to be fixed big time. It's nothing but a washed-out gully. I have a tiny sports car, and I don't even think I would be able to get my car through that gully without doing some underneath damage. All of the staff members were just as nice, friendly, helpful, and informative as they could be."

"I chose Catawba Valley Assisted Living for my husband. I'm very satisfied overall with the facility. The room that he's in is airy and well maintained. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, and they seem to be taking very good care of him. He likes the food. He just told me today that the food is very good, and he's enjoying it. They have activities, but I think they're still very limited right now because of COVID. They have an activity director. My husband seems to be as satisfied as he can be, given the particular shape he's in now."

"I visited a friend of ours at Trinity Village in Hickory. She's in their assisted living. The place was very nice. It's clean. It's decorated very pretty, and there's no bad smell. All the time, I see on Facebook that they do activities with their people. It's just overall a good place, and the staff was great. They do all kinds of arts and crafts and have all kinds of functions going on for the residents."

"Abernethy Laurels is clean, quiet, and updated. The lady I talked to was very challenging. It was only my resilience that got me an appointment there because I wouldn't give up. They don't call back. They're not nice on the phone, and even at the beginning of the walkthrough was awkward until I didn't know what I said or what I shared, but the interview completely changed to "give me this information". Then this lady called the place where my father-in-law is located now and got everything that she needed. I think that they're just very choosy and careful as to who they let come in. I think a private place has the right to do that and I'm not offended at all. I still appreciate that and that's why I want my father-in-law to be there. The lady was still amazing, and helpful, and went above and beyond to get the information. They have a lot of things. They have a rehab if you need it. There's a kitchen where families can come and cook with the residents. The dining area was clean and beautiful. She discussed what they offer, what they do, and how they are willing to meet my father-in-law and his physical condition, which means they'll probably have to have meals in his room, and that was not upsetting to her at all."

"My mom is in Springs of Catawba Assisted Living. The staff is excellent, very caring and attentive. The place is very clean. The patients seem to be happy and they have lots of activities. I liked the freedom that the patients have and it is a beautiful place. My mother likes the food. They have separate dining areas for each facility and there were three different facilities. They have a two dementia care units and a regular assisted living care. Each dementia care has different dining areas. The regular residents have separate dining area. "

"I like the Kingston Residence of Hickory. Pets are accepted. They staffed it very well, which is important. You could do your own laundry. There are nurses on site 24/7. Like the other communities, they have a van that will take you to appointments within 10 miles. Another thing I like is that, since my sister lives up in New York, if she came to visit me, she could stay over in my apartment. The smallest apartment has a kitchenette. Their menu looked quite delicious. They have monthly activities that they do. The staff was very good. The place was very nice."
