My mother is in Parker at Monroe. It's private so its out-of-pocket pay, and they don't accept Medicaid. They have memory care and nursing care, and it's an excellent community. It's four years old and there's a waiting list to get on it. It doesn't look like a nursing home, but somebody's living room, and the rooms are all private rooms with large bathrooms. They have excellent staff members, there's a nurse and two aides for 16 patients, and they treat the residents like their own mother. They're on top of everything, like when somebody gets up to go to the bathroom but was supposed to use a walker, they go running to take care of it right away. The food was very good and healthy. Most of their activities are watching game shows, trivial pursuit, and so on. They have physical and occupational therapies, a doctor on-call, and we have a choice between two doctors. It's a bit expensive, but it's worth it because Mom is safe.

My husband is moving into Parker at Monroe on Friday. For care, it has gotten the best reviews I've seen, from people who have been there compared to the others, from our physician, and from some communities when I told them. Also, what I liked was that all the prices were in one package. There wasn't a cost for this and a cost for that, making everything nickel and dime -- something which I didn't like in the other communities. The community is excellent. The staff is rated extremely high medically, as well as in the ability of care that they give. I've been inside and I've spoken to the people there. I liked this best. I've been in front, I've walked around, and from what I've seen it's very modern, very nice, and I liked the fact that it is done in cottages -- small units that are centrally grouped together. The rooms looked nice. It's beautiful even in the snow. I think they have a number of different facilities, entertainment options, and people who can show them games and other things. But most importantly, they have good physical therapy and good medical therapy.
