Commonly known as the “Queen City of the Ozarks” and “Birthplace of Route 66,” Springfield is the third-largest city in Missouri and home to more than 23,500 people aged 65 and over. Seniors love this community due to its low cost of living, enriching social programs and beautiful, natural scenery. Within the city limits, there are numerous parks and trails where active seniors can enjoy a day outdoors. Two local senior centers offer great activities, including billiards, bingo, outings and fitness and dance classes. In 2019, Springfield’s Give 5 Program won an innovation award from the Missouri Municipal League. This program promotes the talents and passions of area seniors by providing volunteering opportunities at dozens of local nonprofit organizations.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
