"We visited Creekside Retirement, and it was very nice. They have individual houses or villas. They were smaller than what my parents wanted. They only had a one-car garage, but they were very nice. Some of them look out on the lake, and they have a clubhouse. They have little yards that the residents maintain. The dining room was very large with many people, but we were not able to eat there. "

"Mission Ridge Senior Living was new. Everything was clean and bright. The director who gave us the tour knew every resident that she passed. She called them by their first name, and that impressed me. I didn't like that all the activities and the dining area was on the first level, and the rooms were on the second and third levels. Mom would have had to take an elevator to get to the dining area, and we were a little concerned that she might be confused for a while. The director was very friendly and very professional. She answered all our questions. I saw the staff interacting with other residents. They seemed very kind, caring, and cheerful. The facilities were very clean. I think the building is only a couple of years old. We toured a room. To the right was the bathroom, and to the left was the kitchen. You walk through there, and there is a bedroom on the right and then to the left is the living area. It had lots of storage."

"Turners Rock was almost brand new. They were just now working on their memory care unit. The staff was good. The people that I dealt with were very nice. The only thing that concerned me in that facility was when I was visiting the memory care part of it, there was a movie with violence on, and no one seemed to care. It wasn't a horror movie, but it was brutal, and it was like on an 80-inch screen TV in their corporate room kind of thing. I know people that have Alzheimer's have problems trying to figure out what's going on. I felt like that was inappropriate for somebody with Alzheimer's that already has confusion to see violence. Sometimes people with Alzheimer's, get frustrated and angry, and sometimes they can become violent because of their frustrations, and I just felt like that was not good, and I told them that. That was probably one of the distractions I felt about that facility. They had nice rooms, really nice beds, and nice people. The staff was amazing, and they had lots of activities. But I felt like since it was like a new thing with them, the memory care part of it was like new-new, and so I felt like that I didn't want my mom to be an experiment for them."
