My sister has been in Althea Woodland for a month now. It is smaller and we kind of like the atmosphere. The facility looks good and the staff is very friendly. She's participated in some activities, like making pizza, but so far, that's the only activity I knew since she's only been there for a month.

Don't let the photos on the internet fool you! Staff was nice but lacking. There was an incident where they were in lockdown due to a Covid issue, and my parent was upset and crying because they didn't know what was going on and had them call my sibling. But over the time of the lockdown my sibling called to check on our parent and leave a message for them and they never got it nor did they bring my parent to the phone, so my sibling could talk to them. And there were other times my sibling would call to ask them to let our parent know that they wouldn't be in to visit, and they weren't told. Our parent wasn't able to see well enough to be able to use the phone in their room. I find that unacceptable that the staff didn't care enough to pass along the message(s), leaving our parent confused and worried. My parent didn't join in any activities. The amenities were inadequate at best. Losing or giving my parent the wrong clothes on a regular basis, even though their name was in them. The food was slop and as far as I know they were not given an option on what they wanted nor were they helped with the meal to decide. I wouldn't feed my dogs that food, MAYBE my pigs though. It certainly doesn't offer restaurant style dining. Dining room and media/activity room were all one room. It smelled bad and the band aiding of a "remodel" only made it seem better. The rooms were a tight fit for two beds, dark and dingy feeling. As it says it's FOR PROFIT, so they are more about getting more patients in the beds with less staff to line their own pockets. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

Althea Woodland Nursing Home was in a private neighborhood. It was like in a quiet residential area at the end of the street, had a lot of trees, which looked like a park, and it's very nice and very modest inside. It was not fancy, but they have a low staff-patient ratio, which was good. The administrator we talked to seemed to be very caring, personable and was so easy to approach. It was a smaller place, so I think it felt more individualized. I saw their physical therapy and residents doing activities. They have two beds in a room there, so it's shared. It seemed like a decent, calm, and relaxed environment.

I'm very happy at Althea Woodland. My handicap is too extensive for assisted living, so I would need the skilled nursing facility that will take care of me. The staff is excellent, very attentive to my needs, and they don't get upset about anything. It's a nice facility. It's small, 50 beds, but it's wonderful, and this was the best move I could've made. The food is excellent. Right now, I'm in quarantine, so I'm not really familiar with what they do, but their activities department seems pretty busy. They've been by to see me and talk to me about activities.
