What I liked best at Delmar Gardens of Overland Park are some of the staff, but I also don't like some of them. The atmosphere is good. I am no longer able to fend for myself, and they help me with fixing the meals, taking showers, general care, and medications. Most of the staff are very good. The rooms are small. It's supposed to be a two-person room, but if you get two people in here, it's very crowded. There's no place really to get away from your roommate or anything if you don't get a good one. The food, most of the time, is good. They serve a lot of rice, mainly different flavors of rice, which I am not fond of. I don't like rice, but I realize it's an economical thing to fix for a large group. I don't get into any of the activities they have, but they have quite a few. I watch a lot of TV. I have a DVR where I record shows that I want to see. They do as well as they can, but they seem to have huge amounts of rooms that they're responsible for in the housekeeping. They don't have the time to do any deep cleaning. They just don't have the time to do anything extra when they've got 50 or 60 different rooms that they've got to take care of daily. It's kind of impossible to add anything extra to it. Their housekeeping staff is excellent. The nurse's aides are one of the main reasons that I give a score of four because some of them are excellent and others are lazy.

Delmar Gardens is clean and has good food. The staff comes in at 6:30 in the morning and puts on all the lights in the room, then leave the lights on when they leave the room. They misrepresent all the time what they are going to do for the residents. My aunt is paying $7,300 a month for a shared room, which is very expensive. She is not getting the doctor’s medication that’s been ordered for her; we have to ask all the time for that. However, the layout was nice, and they have groups that come in and sing.

My mother in law was a resident there. I always found her dirty. I cleaned her myself most of the time. Oral care never got done unless I did it. Glasses and dentures were constantly lost. I found aids and most nursing staff to be less than caring. They are uninterested in communication and continuity of care. Care conferences are a joke. Nothing ever changes. If you allow the facility to do their laundry plan on it getting lost. I find it difficult to believe they have such a high rating among the nursing homes in the area.

VERY disappointed with the care my mother recieved here on their rehab hall. I often found my mother crying when I came in and said she was scared. The nurses didnt seem to know what they were doing most of the time and the nurse assistants were impossible to find and when I would find them they were rude. I had to find my mother somewhere else to finish her rehab it was so bad. The therapy staff was helpful and were the only ones that made me feel as though my mother was getting proper treatment. I would not recommend this place to anyone! I don't even know how they can keep their doors open for business, the people that work at chick fil a are more well mannered and compassionate then their staff!!!
