The staff at the assisted living facility of Heritage Avonlea of Olathe seemed friendly. The main thing I was looking for in a facility was a staff that was friendly and engaged, and a facility that was clean, and it was very clean. The rooms I was shown were spacious and had nice window views. It's just an older neighborhood. The staff member who welcomed me was engaging, easy to talk to, and answered questions with understandable responses.

I thought the director of Heritage Avonlea of Olathe was very knowledgeable. What I didn't like about the facility was that not every room had a bathroom. You have to use a universal bathroom and shower. On one side of the building, everybody has their own bathroom, but on the other side, nobody has a bathroom except the one in the hallway. They have a library and a lot of extracurricular activities that the elderly people can stay in shape and be active.

The Heritage Avonlea of Olathe is a very nice facility. I would consider it more on the line of just assisted living than independent living, but it has a very nice staff, and it's very clean. I didn't see any activities, but I know they had a full calendar. I also met the activities director, and she was very nice and friendly. I think they had just finished up something before I got there for the tour.

We toured Heritage Avonlea of Olathe. It was sufficient. It was fine, mainly because of the location. You could tell it was older. The rooms were neat and clean, but they were older. They had a garden that the residents there took care of. They have an outdoor area. The lady that helped us was very kind and very helpful.

It was a little nice facility, but it was far from us. We saw a small studio apartment with a kitchenette, and a bathroom with a disability shower. They have an activities director, and the staff there was swell too.

It was just like a nursing home. The staff was OK, but I didn't get a very good feeling from the whole place. Nobody had any decent-looking clothing on and instead had sloppy-looking t-shirts and pajama bottoms. They walked around like they were lounging around. The rooms weren't very nice. It had been a nursing home, and it still looked like one.

The staff and the manager were much better than the other place I visited. It would have been the place my parents would have gone to. The room that they could afford seemed to be bigger. They had a two-bedroom unit, and they had what they called the super studio with a pretty good size room. It had a bathroom, a walk-in shower, and a little kitchen. They really liked Avonlea. They met the needs of mom and dad. They had an activity room where they did paintings and some dancing. There was a garden out back.

The staff seemed very nice, friendly, and helpful. The rooms and apartments were fine, updated, and spacious. I have not tried the food, but they were having a meal when I was there, and it smelled delicious and looked really nice. The dining was family style -- very inviting for the people -- and it looks like a nice place. They have exercise, bingo, a little general store, plenty of reading, and TV. I would rate it a 4 only because they need to redo the parking lot; it doesn’t look very good.
