I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Mom really likes University Heights Family-first Senior Living from CarDon. She has had no complaints being there. She has a private room and we have a relative that's also there, and they're right across the hall from each other, so that makes it nice for all the family. We've had no issues with the nurses and their staff at all. They are very nice and very helpful. She likes the food and she's excited about it, because they bring her a menu every three days so she gets to choose what she wants to eat. She also likes bingo, the church service, and the music where they have people come and play songs. The dining room is very nice. The rooms are very clean. It's an older nursing home, but it's very clean and very organized. Mom's room is nice and she has plenty of room in it. She's got a little table, chairs, her little closet, pictures on the wall, and a little coffee bar with drawers underneath it. She's got her own snacks, too.

I visited this facility

It is amazing here! Staff was helpful and the food was good. My favorite part would be the therapy team as they helped my loved one get back on their feet in no time. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to place their loved ones. Even though they were limited to the in person activities they still had a lot to offer so no one was bored.

If I could give zero stars I would. Please rethink before going to this facility. My grandpa broke the ball of his hip back in August of 21 he was sent to rehab since they do not do surgery for this. My grandpa was a resident for about 7 weeks here before he spent the whole month of December in the hospital where he unfortunately passed two days before Christmas. My grandpa was not cared for at this facility. He sat in a wheelchair for 2 days with no one checking on him once, there were days he wouldn’t be fed at all or would be given a small bowl of mashed potatoes which were cold. He was left for numerous hours unattended on the toilet where he was eventually found passed out. This is when they took him to the hospital and found that he was so severely constipated it was pushing on his lungs and heart to the point they were functioning properly and had to be put on a ventilator. If he would have been getting proper care they would have noticed his stomach was distended and hard as a cinder block. They have no compassion whatsoever for human beings or this would not have happened to my grandfather. My grandpa could've recovered from the broken hip, if he had good care at a good facility. I work in healthcare and see this all to often never thought I’d personally go through something like this. So please, please do yourselves or your loved ones a favor and read reviews and physically go and visit facilities and don’t ever hesitate to speak up if someone is receiving improper care and report them! I have actually seen a lot of other similar reviews to mine and am just beyond belief others have gone through this and they have clearly made no changes to improve things. Sad this is what we have to depend on for our sick and elderly.

I visited this facility

I completely failed my sister by choosing this facility for her physical therapy! The first day she arrived the wheeled her into her room and left her sitting in a nasty wheelchair basically in a corner. And no one came to check on her for over 30 minutes and she had to get the attention of someone walking down the hall to even get that. We went to visit her the second day and they stress for you to be on time. We waited over 30 minutes after our schedule visit time to see her. She would ring for them and it would take multiple times of doing so to get assistance. They never brought her a menu to order from just sent whatever cold food they had. She was there for physical therapy but never seen the gym until the day I pulled her out of there due to them coming to give her a shot in the stomach but had not alcohol wipes to clean the area first. I even took her for an outside visit one day and they had nothing for me to fill out when leaving or bringing her back. I took her to her room helped her change her clothes and got her into bed, drove 30 minutes home while talking to her and no one ever came to check on her. Blamed everything on short staffed etc. My sister is completely coherent I can’t imagine what type of treatment those that are not are getting.

This facility is very attractive and it is clean. I believe the physical therapists and occupational therapists did a good job seeing to my mother's rehabilition needs. However, I was very disappointed with how difficult it was to actually ever speak to anyone in charge of my mother's care. Many times there was no answer at their reception desk. When I would get an answer she would politely ring the nurse's station. However, not once in the 3 week stay was a call ever answered or message left ever responded to. With no visiting allowed during the pandemic it was very frustrating to have no ability to speak with anyone involved in her direct care. The director of social services did call me twice with reports from the various therapists (PT and OT). Even she was difficult to correspond with and sometimes ignored messages. When my mother was discharged, I had to wait 2 1/2 hrs past the discharge time before she was brought out (and that was after I checked in again). None of her belonging were sent with her. The employee who brought Mom to the car said she didn't know anything about clothing remarking "this is what they told me to give you". It was Mom's unused meds and some get-well cards she'd received. There were also two discharge folders, one of which wasn't even for my mother! These were not to have been sent home with me, but belong in the facility's files. I had to make a trip back to the facility "at my convenience" to return the folders. This kind of incompetence makes me question what kind of care my mother actually received while there for rehabilitation. I will choose another facility for any future rehabilitation needs.

Never taking my mom back there again. Took her for a 5 day respite stay and the entire 5 days she received no shower. Only bed bath. She is incontinent and has several health issues but they refused to give her a shower. Had a window visit and all she had on was a hospital gown and nothing else. Sent 5 days worth of clothes and they never put them on her. Her teeth never got brushed the whole time there. Nurse was rude because she couldnt understand why I was so upset. Picked her up and she looked and smelled terrible. I could only imagine what she would have looked or felt like if she was there longer. Plus, a staff member tested positive for covid and was never informed about it. Just by luck I found out when I complained about the service. Since we couldn't visit, I could only imagine what else was being neglected with my mom.

The care that our mother received was above and beyond our expectations. The staff treated her as though she was their mom. They took great care in ensuring she was comfortable and that we knew her health concerns on a daily basis. They would spend quality time explaining things to us. It was like we were family and we personally knew 12 of the nurses who cared for her. Even during her passing the nurses gathered at her bedside until we arrived. The staff is top notch.

Don't go here. My husband was a stage 4 cancer patient transferred here for rehab. The staff doesnt answer their call buttons, and are on their phones and FB most of the time. He went straight downhill when he was transferredd here and he died there 2 weeks later. They need to pay more attention to the needs of the patients- call lights would blink for 30 minutes sometimes. Even when i went to get help, it sometimes took up to an hour to get my husband pain meds, The doctor there put him on morphine without telling me- i was his health representative. Staff told us nothing about his health and waited 3 weeks to send him to a cancer specialist for treatment, he was dead by then

My friend was taken to University Heights. The people were very nice; however, the mental care leaves a lot to be desired. There were too many misses on my friend. Actually, I called the doctors and got the ball rolling. I think she could have been cared for a little bit better medically. However, the people were great. The food was great; it was very good. My friend didn't participate in too much activities. They tried to do a lot of therapy with her but her body was so in trouble by that time that she really couldn't. I think they focused on that too much and not on what her problems actually were. I think that's one place where they dropped the ball. The place was very clean. It was almost like a hotel; it was very nice. Everybody was great; however, the medical staff, that's where they lost it. Not only that they had physical therapy, they also had speech therapy and for cognition. They had great dining rooms, and they had different activities posted. I thought it was great. Unfortunately, my friend was too far gone at that point, and nobody knew anything, so it wasn't a good fit for her.

I was extremely unhappy with the one week respite stay my husband had here. He was put in the nursing home section, My instructions were not followed. They lost his medications. Got no dinner at all the first day he was there. I could go on and on.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Our family members were residents here June-October of '16. The staff lacks communication with each other, with the patient, and with the family. When we asked questions about our family members health in Long Term Care, no one seemed to know anything about them, their care, or their current status. No one ever knew details of labs, results, current conditions of issues, or even if they had eaten that day. Answers were always vague, or not available. We were commonly told "We are severely understaffed. Can you call back and ask someone else later?" We felt that the patients here were neglected because the majority of the on-floor staff seemed uncaring, and seemed bothered to have to check on the residents. The policy is that each resident is checked on every 2 hours or less, however, we spent a number of hours at a time in the room, and never saw anyone come in. The response time to pressing the call button runs on average from 45 minutes-2 hours. This response time was consistent over 5 months. The staff seemed to be unaware of the general health of our family member, and we would regularly have to call and request them to be seen by the Nurse, or ask to have common medical procedures started. Most of the time, the health issues were first reported to Nursing by family. Due to lack of medical skill and knowledge, their medication was administered incorrectly, and they were taken to the hospital where they spent 2 weeks in ICU, and another week in a regular room. Ultimately, due to the decline in their health and the staff unwillingness to provide the care that we felt was entitled to them, we moved them to another facility. I would never recommend this place.

My mother is in this facility now undergoing rehab. We are very happy with the staff and her private room is very nice. She says her bed is pretty comfortable. The facility is quiet and clean and the staff are all compasionate and professional. We toured other facilities but chose University Heights. I'm happy we did. Theye not just taking excellent care of her,but she is getting significantly stronger and healthier.

I am a past client of this provider

We were very satisfied with University Heights' services. My mom was very happy with the people that took care of her. They were very friendly. The food was not quite what my mother wanted but she was also picky. My mother's room was nice. It was a decent size, with a private bath and a window. For someone who just needed rehab for a short while, I would recommend this facility.
