Independent Living Communities in Salt Lake City, UT

"I went to Spring Gardens Midvale. I liked that the rooms had tall ceilings, so they seemed spacious. It's a smaller facility. They only have capacity for 47 residents, and right now there are about 22, so they're only about half full. They recently went through an ownership change about a year ago, so they're trying to do updates and kind of improve the property. But the people that I talked with talked, one of the residents who was eating lunch and he said the food was just fantastic. Being a former chef, he said the food was just really good there. So that was a good comment. However, once you can no longer private pay, they do not accept Medicaid, then you would have to transfer to another facility. The staff was very helpful, very friendly, and very accommodating. I think they had a couple of pieces of exercise equipment. They didn't have a gym. I think they also do some outings with them. They didn't offer as many of the religious services that the other place offered and maybe because they're still kind of small, but it was fairly easy to get to, and it was fairly close to the interstate."

"It is a great, clean, friendly, and very efficient place. It suits my mother-in-law's needs well. The staff is very pleasant and do a great job. They have good food. My mother-in-law enjoys several of the activities, like movies, reading, outings, bingo, and entertainment they bring in."

"My father-in-law was at Legacy Retirement Residence of South Jordan. He loved it. It was a great place. They took good care of them. He's lived there for about three years. He was in independent living. They gave him a very safe, fun enjoyable place to live. The staff were very professional and very friendly. The building was clean. They took a great interest in their residents. They had lots of activities and he went on a lot of outings, and he enjoyed the bands that would come into play. He participated in those. They were great. They were awesome. I have eaten there, and the food was great. It was very good. We went to Thanksgiving, and it was great. Value for money is very good."

"Cedarwood at Sandy is an older place. The staff and director are really nice. I'm a little concerned about the maintenance because they put in a nice stove but didn't paint the wall behind it, so it doesn't have a very nice look to it. Other than that, it's all really good. I think we'll be very happy since there are a lot of good people there. I liked the idea that Mom has someone to come in and clean her house for her every week and also not having a set time to go down and eat. It seems like there's a long walk between a lot of the places, but that's just the way the building is. The residents are very happy with it. It has very open parking, which is convenient when family comes to visit. My mom has a decent-sized fridge and a small stove, which is perfect for her in a full kitchen. Cedarwood's bathrooms are very small. The people are so friendly, giving, and welcoming. "

"We went to Copper Creek Senior Living. It was a nice new facility. It was very open, bright, and cheery. The person who gave the tour was very engaged, upbeat, and cheerful. They had physical therapy and hospice onsite, and I think they also had a dentist that came in periodically onsite. There was a beauty salon and an outdoor patio."

"I toured the South Jordan View Retirement Community. The community is light and bright, full of activity, and there's a lot of involvement there with the people who run the place. They had a very good chef the day I was there who cooked some delicious food, and from what the ladies were telling me, they have their reserved table towards the back of the cafeteria, and they have about eight to ten ladies that are just full of life, full of fun. I spent about two and a half hours there. We had a great time, and they were very forthcoming about living there and how much they liked it. I went and viewed one of the apartments, which was fabulous. Jimi was very caring, friendly, and open, and she wanted to do whatever she could or answer any questions to help me decide. She showed me everywhere around there. It's just a beautiful community. So that's the place I would have liked to have gone to, but unfortunately, that's too much money for me. The food was delicious. From what they told me, you could order something else. If you want a sandwich, they'll make it for you. It's like having the best of both worlds, having your place and everybody taking care of you. It's wonderful. So, I like it a lot."

"The tour at Sagewood at Daybreak was good. It was a brand-new facility and really nice, but more expensive. The staff was really good. There were private and shared rooms. It’s a memory care center, too. "

"Creekside Senior Living has been great. I am rating them an overall score of 5 because of the attention that they give to my mother. They don't begrudge spending time helping us or with every little detail. They have church activities and social activities, too. I've never seen a happier group of people. They got fabulous food. She got a one-bedroom and it's like her own mini house. They have all kinds of facilities from the laundry area to the reading room, to the bingo place, to the piano parlor, to the snack bar, to the private dining room, and a physical therapy room."

"This is a small facility, sixteen resident capacity, and the facility itself is not overly beautiful or anything, but this facility has a lot of heart. I've rarely seen a facility that puts as much emphasis on family then this one does. The staff bends over backwards to accommodate family visits, even if they aren't at the best times. They also invite family to all the parties and get togethers and encourage family participation. I've never visited this facility without seeing at least two or three different residents with visitors at any given time, and they're always talking and laughing and generally just having a good time. I also always see children there visiting their grandparents or great grandparents. They literally just light the place up. "

"Summerfield Retirement is very nice. It's very elegant, clean, and accessible. My mom has been there for a couple of years now. She was thinking that she might want to move closer to one of her daughters; but she's decided that she likes it, so she's staying there. The staff is excellent. Her room is very, very nice. It's a large two-bedroom apartment. The dining area is very nice and very elegant too. The food is wonderful. Then they have crafts. There are people that come in and do musical shows for them and church services. They have quite a few activities like that."

"The transition for my mother to Spring Gardens has been a very positive. It was a decision that was not made lightly, but has proven to be a blessing to our family. The staff have been great to communicate as we worked through routines to support my mom. The weekly activities keep her busier than she has been in years. A family member commented that the weekly schedule is like a cruise-ship, "always something to do". COVID-19 has made the move difficult for families and residents to visit. However, the efforts to keep communication options open have not gone unnoticed. I have appreciated the nursing staff and CNA's to assist my family in the burden of staying on top of Medicare, medical needs and all of the daily assists that help my mom live comfortably and independently. "

"It is a nice place; I enjoyed it. I stayed there for two nights. They gave me a room and meals, and they were all very friendly and helpful. I was treated very nicely, and the food was OK."

"The facility and rooms here looked very good, clean, spacious, and bright. The dining room was very good. The people were very good and showed me around. I liked the location because it was nearby the grocery store and bank. "

"I now live in the assisted living part of Highland Cove, but I have lived in the independent before. It's clean, and it is probably the most well-kept facility of this kind in the State of Utah. In fact, we win an award every year. The staff is wonderful. We are spoiled rotten. I have just one room, like a studio apartment. It has room for my bed, a desk, couple of chairs, TV, and small counter space where I put my coffee pot and toaster. It also has a microwave, refrigerator, large closet, and bathroom with shower. Not a lot of storage space because you don't need much to move here. It seems small when you first move in, but you get used to it very quickly. We have exercise classes, walking classes, games, and sing-alongs. The food is fantastic, and the dining area is large enough to support the residents. The staff takes care of all our needs during meals. It's clean, service is fast, friendly, and they pamper us a lot. I couldn't ask for anything more. They usually have a waiting list because they are filled most of the time. "
