The Best Independent Living Communities in Salt Lake County, UT

"We went to look at Solstice Senior Living at Sandy. The grounds are very nice. The facility seemed very nice and well-kept. The concept of a small kitchen and getting fed is a good thing. They have a good chef there, so they understand that the food needs to be good. The place is clean all over. I think it would be a good place. Everyone is saying this is a good place for me in my old age. We are very interested. I was impressed with the library, which had big chairs. They have a few exercise machines that look good. There's a community exercise place. A senior center, I believe, is fairly close. They talked about a bus for the residents there. I met the staff, the people at the desk, the cleaning person, and the chef. They were all very nice. They all seem to understand what their function is."

"I have signed up with Legacy Retirement Residence of South Jordan. The staffers are absolutely excellent. They provide great care and concern for me as a tenant. The food here is absolutely superb. It's better than most restaurants in the valley. It's a great place to stay. It's amazing to me how, from the servers in the restaurant, to the janitorial staff, everyone knows the names of every tenant in here, and that's incredible. They really seem to care about us. The facility has all kinds of amenities, everything from an onsite doctor and haircutting, and all kinds of care that they provide for us. They have transportation to and from your medical appointments if need be. It is mostly independent living but there are facilities here that will provide you with assisted living if you need it. It will be for an extra cost, and often you contract directly with the extra services."

"I like that Cedarwood at Sandy is going to be close to family. Their food is excellent and their two-bedroom apartment is very large. They also have little cottages. Their rooms were the largest two-bedroom ones we saw. The upkeep was excellent. Their dining area was nice."

"We went to Copper Creek Senior Living. It was a nice new facility. It was very open, bright, and cheery. The person who gave the tour was very engaged, upbeat, and cheerful. They had physical therapy and hospice onsite, and I think they also had a dentist that came in periodically onsite. There was a beauty salon and an outdoor patio."

"I toured the South Jordan View Retirement Community. The community is light and bright, full of activity, and there's a lot of involvement there with the people who run the place. They had a very good chef the day I was there who cooked some delicious food, and from what the ladies were telling me, they have their reserved table towards the back of the cafeteria, and they have about eight to ten ladies that are just full of life, full of fun. I spent about two and a half hours there. We had a great time, and they were very forthcoming about living there and how much they liked it. I went and viewed one of the apartments, which was fabulous. Jimi was very caring, friendly, and open, and she wanted to do whatever she could or answer any questions to help me decide. She showed me everywhere around there. It's just a beautiful community. So that's the place I would have liked to have gone to, but unfortunately, that's too much money for me. The food was delicious. From what they told me, you could order something else. If you want a sandwich, they'll make it for you. It's like having the best of both worlds, having your place and everybody taking care of you. It's wonderful. So, I like it a lot."

"I was very impressed. We visited during Cinco de Mayo and we saw the residents were chatting with each other. Their meeting place by the atrium was festively decorated. They also had entertainment and the residents were very into it. Their rooms were larger and had a walk-in closet. We met several staff members and they were very, very nice. The food was OK. They had a typical large variety main menu."

"We went to Sagewood at Daybreak. It was the nicest community we visited. They had really good food. The people said hi to the staff as we walked through, so evidently they're friendly and welcoming. The only reason we didn't choose that one was that it was farther away from our children, and it was very expensive. Nevertheless, the facility was clean, nice, neat, and very new."

"This is a small facility, sixteen resident capacity, and the facility itself is not overly beautiful or anything, but this facility has a lot of heart. I've rarely seen a facility that puts as much emphasis on family then this one does. The staff bends over backwards to accommodate family visits, even if they aren't at the best times. They also invite family to all the parties and get togethers and encourage family participation. I've never visited this facility without seeing at least two or three different residents with visitors at any given time, and they're always talking and laughing and generally just having a good time. I also always see children there visiting their grandparents or great grandparents. They literally just light the place up. "

"We visited Creekside Senior Living in Bountiful for my daughter-in-law's mother, and she will be moving into their assisted living. It's very classy, very well cared for, and very open and spacious. The staff is also incredibly friendly. The activities that I have observed personally as we were interacting and moving some things a couple of days ago were card playing, people just visiting, and ping-pong. They have all kinds of things, like the reading room they have, and everyone seemed to be very happy. We met random people in the halls, and they were friendly. It just seems like a really nice place. I haven't tasted the food myself, but it smells wonderful, and the dining room is very spacious. Everyone seems to be very satisfied, so I would rate the entire facility very highly. The location is also very lovely because it's very secluded, with lots of trees, and just kind of a nice little quiet neighborhood in Bountiful."

"We visited Summerfield Retirement. It was very nice, very professional, and very clean. Everything was good about it. However, we're not going to be able to use any of them right now because my brother has changed positions, and he is going to be staying with his son. We wanted to look at them anyway, in case things change. Everything was very professionally handled at Summerfield Retirement. The gentleman who took us on the tour was very informative and very helpful in answering our questions. He told us things that we should look for in a facility, including ones that he knew we were going to visit that were not his. He gave us some ideas on how to compare different facilities. He even recommended some that weren't on our list. So, he was very open and honest with us. It was very clean. The rooms had good ceiling lights, unlike ours here. So, we were very impressed. They were very light and very airy."

"We visited Solista Orem by Cogir. It was well organized. It has three floors. We looked at rooms on the first and third floors. The lady who took us on a tour was very good. She was very friendly and explained that they're going through a transition. Apparently, a new management has come in over the last couple of years, and they're making some modifications to the facilities. We like the rooms. They are very well laid out and large. We looked at studios, and they were large for a studio room. They seem to have a lot of amenities that we like. The original lady who was going to take us on the tour was out of town and won't be back for another week. However, the manager who took us was very good. We were introduced to several staff members. We didn't interact with them very much, but they were very good. It seemed very well kept. They had outdoor areas for the residents to gather, so that was very nice. They had a nice entertainment area. The dining area was very well laid out, too."

"We toured Spring Gardens Heber. I like them the best. The lady who was taking me on the tour said that they had a little courtyard for people who like to go outside. They were very nice. The staff who toured me was very nice. They showed me the dining room, but they didn't offer a meal. There were no appliances available in the memory care. The room looked small, but it was nice. You bring all your own furniture, TV, or whatever. The staff said smaller rooms were less confusing. They weren't very big, but that was alright. They have an activity director. They have a lot of card games. They have a lady who comes in and plays the piano. People enjoy that. The staff said she is really good and plays things that they know. Each day of the week they have something. It may be like an art project one day, a Hawaiian Day, or different activities like bingo."

"I went with a friend who was looking for independent or assisted living. We took a tour and had lunch consisting of salmon and vegetables. The meal was well prepared and tasty. The salmon was perfectly prepared. The staff and service were both good. The people at the table were friendly. The assisted and independent rooms looked good. We liked the grounds and the fact that the independent rooms faced out into the central landscaping."

"I went to see Truewood by Merrill, Cottonwood Heights. It was very impressive. It was very homey. The staff was very friendly and very accommodating. They had a pool room and a card room. They had a number of programs to get out and go shopping. I walked through the dining room, and it looked pleasant. The facility was located right across a street that had a huge shopping center with all kinds of restaurants, shops, and stores."
