"I will be moving into Solstice Senior Living at Palatine. I love the place. As soon as I walked in, they had a welcome sign for me. It was just so warm. The place was so clean and everybody was so nice. It was exactly what I was looking for. I'm going to be on the third floor and it's just perfect because there is an elevator, they have a chapel, a beauty shop, a library, and a game room. It's just everything that anybody would want to imagine having there and this will be my first time. I've never had to live by myself, but being in this community, I don't feel alone. There were so many people. The dining area looked beautiful, and everybody was just so kind. Three meals are included. If I have any guests, they are more than welcome to have a meal. It's so clean. You could eat off the floor in the hallway. Everything was just perfect."

"I went to Grand Twin Lakes. I liked everything about it except they only had one-bedrooms in the place. They were a place that had been converted from a hotel to a senior living, and I like that very much. I saw a couple of the staff. The staff was great. It was clean. It looked great except they didn't have rooms in terms of this kind of space that I would like to have. It felt nice. The people there were nice. It was extremely clean and well-thought-out. My sister and I both liked it, but it was too small, and they just had one-bedrooms. Included in the rent was all meals and you got cleaning. But it felt more like assisted. The rooms looked brand new and felt brand new. The dining area was wide open. The impression I have of the whole place is that it's well-lit, and the part I saw had a lot of windows. They have activities. They had a fitness room and there were lots of activities for the residents. They have a place where they show movies at certain times, and they have a heated pool, a fitness center, and a game room. I saw some of the residents and they looked as if they were happy there. It was nice, but it didn't suit my needs. The staff I met were very nice."

"The staff were very friendly. Everyone seemed very happy, not only the staff but the residents. There are smiles on their faces. Most of them were engaged in an activity. The rooms were nice sized, not overly spacious, but just enough. They had a nice little kitchenette, a nice-sized bedroom, and a bathroom. The dining area looked comfortable. It had tables all setup. The menu looked good and had nice options. It's more like a restaurant. The indoors were very nice. Everything's good and very comfortable. They had mahjong and bingo and one was sitting in the library at that time."

"This is a great place, the staff is like family and many of them have been there for many years. They treat you like family. We have always had such a positive experience there."

"Belmont Village of Glenview is small and very nice. So far so good. We didn’t have problems. Everyone is very friendly, always greets me. They call my mother by name. The server people are very attentive when my mother’s eating. The menus are very extensive and very good. She can choose whatever she wants to eat off the menu. They have a lot of activities- exercise class, Bible study, and all that kind of stuff, and she’s been participating in everything so far. It’s very clean; it doesn’t smell. I’m very satisfied and very happy that she’s socializing. The people there have been very nice. "

"Oakton Arms was my favorite, and the one I wished my aunt had picked. However, the location was too far out in the city and far from her house. The rooms were spacious, the dining area was area was beautiful, and it seemed each meal was going to be something special just by the way it looked. The lady was incredibly nice to us. I have only wonderful things to say about them. They had a shuttle bus, computer, library, and beauty salon. They had a lot of activities. "

"It has nice, fairly large apartments. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They have a lot of outdoor space, a swimming pool, two libraries, a game room, and church services. They also have a bus that takes residents shopping."

"It was nice. It was well-kept and clean. I liked that they had activities. Now with COVID you really can't see a lot of people out in the hallways, but it looks like they have a table where they could do puzzles on the floor. The only concern that I had was the elevators. Plus, I didn't see a string that they could pull like if they fall. I was concerned about that. They advised me that they do wellness checks throughout the day. So they'll do it in the morning. They have people that walk around, and then they do a check at breakfast. They do it that way. I just thought that they would have something where if something happened, they could just pull a string and somebody would come. Other than that, they were very courteous to us. Even in the independent living, they have the meals included, so I was very happy about that. I like modern facilities, but this one was old and it seemed dark."

"I went to look at The Merion. It was nice, as well as the woman who showed it to me, but it was too expensive for me. The place was beautiful, it had a pool, and I liked the place where it's at. It's a beautiful neighborhood. I didn't want to pay that much money for it, and I didn't want to move to the suburbs. The staff member who gave me the tour was wonderful, she was very accommodating, she called me several times, and she's very nice. It's a gorgeous facility."

"The Woodlands at Canterfield was beautiful. The apartments were fine, clean, nice, and brand new. We met with several people and they were all very nice and professional. They had a bunch of games going. It's brand new so there were not that many people there yet. We saw people in the lunchroom and it looked very nice. The dining area was beautiful. I didn't eat there. My brother and my mom ate there and they said the food was excellent. We met with several different people and overall everybody was great, but some were better than others."

"Hearthwood Senior Living had a full range of services, from you know, three days a week meals if you wanted them, complete apartments of various sizes, and reasonable monthly rents or fees, and no entrance fee. That was a big deal. As many places do, they had craft rooms, a library, and a swimming pool. The staff was wonderful, and the people were active, very friendly, and welcoming. It's very clean, and they have a new owner, so they're undergoing a remodeling with new carpeting and new woodwork, and so forth. We toured for independent living, but it's a continuous care community, so there is a wing for rehab or for more assisted living if you need it."

"I thought Autumn Green at Wright Campus was a very nice facility. I thought it was probably a notch below the one that I also visited. They provided meals, they had activities, and there were games so I liked it."

"We toured The Atrium at Oak Crest Residence. We were hoping that that this was where my sister-in-law could go. They had a more controlled situation. We obviously were able to discuss her health needs with the facility, and they were willing to work on her specific situation because they had another resident who had the exact same diagnosis she had. They were willing to help her live independently in an apartment type situation, instead of a memory care situation. There was an understanding between all of us that she probably was being too heavily medicated for her condition, and this is what has caused a lot of her problems. The facility was very nice. It's a not-for-profit. It's not like they're out to get you. They also stated that they work with people towards end-of-life or when money go south. They're not quick to throw you out of the facility. It was quiet, and it looked like a very calming place to be. We looked at the independent area and went to the memory section of the facility. The memory section is an older part of that building. We spent the most of our time in the independent section. The rooms were very nice and very spacious. There were single suites, double suites (for husband and wife or mother and daughter). It had a very nice kind of apartment feel to it or your own little place. It was very clean and very up-to-date. It's a very nice little facility. The manager was the one who spent the time with us to talk about the facility and showed the whole facility and the kind of things that they could do. She was extremely helpful. She gave us a complete booklet with pricing, just everything about the actual facility itself, and about the doctors that come in to the facility. It was very informative. They offer a lot of really great amenities. The two dining rooms that they have were very nice. They have a pub in the lower level of the building. They can go down there and have a meal and hang out with their friends. It's a big opportunity for them to try the dining room or go to the pub and enjoy the meal there. The staff was very informative and very compassionate, and that's a big deal."

"I am currently in Concord Place and it's pretty nice. The staff seems to be very good and the apartment is very nice. It's clean, with new carpeting and freshly painted walls. I like the fact that in independent living, I can just come and go as I wish, with nobody hovering over me saying where I have to be at a certain time. They serve me three meals a day, so I'm quite satisfied. They have a pretty large dining area, and I normally sit in a certain spot. They're doing some remodeling, and I hope they will remodel the dining area in terms of the chairs and carpeting. Other than that, it's ok. On different days of the week, they have exercise, there's an exercise group. They also have treadmills, bikes, and they have a pool that's not open to you but you can get into. The maintenance of the facility is very good."
