"Brookdale Hawthorn Lakes was very warm and welcoming. It's beautiful. We especially liked their cookies. The dining area looked like a nice restaurant and they had a menu with many food options. I saw an activities calendar and there was even a group of residents playing cards. They had a shuttle service where you could get a car and a caregiver would go with you whenever you needed to. The staff members that we met at the front desk were very friendly and very accommodating -- they've been there for a while and there's not a huge turnover."

"Victory Centre of Vernon Hills is a fabulous place. We can't wait till my aunt gets in there. I would give it 10 stars all across the board. The staff are kind. You can tell that they care about the seniors. They were very helpful in showing us all the amenities and answering all our questions. The apartments are very small, but they are brand new. The facility is just a year old. We liked that when somebody moves in to one of the apartments, they give new carpeting and they repaint the walls. They have very nice common areas, so there are other places for her to be other than just in her apartment. She is in a senior apartment, so they don't provide food. She has to get her own food and do her own cooking. I like that the people there are going to keep an eye out for her and take care of her if she needs it. They are very knowledgeable. There are activities and it has a nice location. It is near a public swimming pool, a library, and restaurants that she can walk too. My aunt really likes the place and she is just waiting until an apartment becomes available. "

"We toured Theresa's Home Care LLC 1. It was very nice. It seemed very clean. It's a home. It's not like an institution. It's not like a facility, so it's homey, and you get that homey feeling. We only really met with Teresa. There were some nurses there, and the dietary people were there, but we didn't meet them. Teresa was very nice, very welcoming, and warm. They do home-cooked meals. We saw them setting the tables and preparing, because it was getting ready to be dinner time. Their outdoor area was beautiful, with a lot of lawn. They had a recreational area downstairs on that first level where they do bingo or card games, puzzles, and things like that. It's like a mansion. I mean, there's like seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms. It's beautiful. The rooms are shared with patients, and I'm not necessarily saying I like that. There is no option for a private room."

"We like Bickford of Gurnee. It's very open. There's a lot of light, a lot of movement, and a lot of activities for them to do. They have a garden in the backyard. My mom hasn't been able to get into her garden in probably a decade because of her knees, and they have raised garden accessible beds, so that's a huge plus for Mom. They have a crossword puzzle club, which is even better for my mom. The price is right around what we need it to be, and they are willing to adjust their pricing if necessary because they're working for the family. I like that they're willing to do that. They gave us some snacks, and they were delicious. We saw what everyone was eating because we came around lunchtime. We saw them preparing the food. It wasn't pre-packaged stuff that was just heated up; they were making the food there, so we really liked that one. I like the building and the layout."

"I went to Autumn Leaves of Gurnee and they have mailboxes and mirrors to direct them back to their rooms if they happen to get lost. They have an outside garden. The facility was great. The staff was wonderful and took the time to give me a tour and explain and give me a lot of information. They have assisted care, but I went to see the memory care for respite care or daycare."

"Thanks for the great care you have given my grandmother who just arrived at your beautiful facility! She has been able to fit right in since she has now come in wheelchair bound. The nurses couldn't be nicer and more accommodating helping her to feel right at home. The service that she has been given has been second to none. My grandmother is in great hands where we have the opportunity to see her even more!! Highly recommend this place for your loved ones. "

"Sunrise of Buffalo Grove was very clean and everyone was friendly. They showed us around and spent a lot of time with us. The grounds were very clean. We saw a sample room and so it was very clean, too. We saw a lady in the memory care on a screen and it seemed like everybody was interested in what she was saying. The staff was very friendly, very informative, and helpful. The dining area was pretty good. The food looked really good as well. They have a library and lots of places to sit for visitors."

"I went to see Sunrise of Highland Park. What I liked about it was that all the elderly people have breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In between meals, you can go to the bistro corner. You can have freshly baked muffins and cookies. They always have fresh fruit out, too. I think it's important to be able to have that option, so I really liked that. I think that was cool. Many of the staff have been working there 17 years and up, which means that they're happy with their job. They don't have a turnover, which is very important. I liked how it was a small community, so pretty much everybody knows and is willing to help each other. They're also a dog-friendly community. Usually when you say dog friendly, it means that the elderly people or their families can bring in pets; however, they have it where the staff can also bring their dog every day. It's bizarre, but it's pretty cool. Like a nurse had this dog roaming around, and it was a friendly dog. It's no big deal. If you're a dog person and/or a dog lover, I think it would be a great facility for someone to feel welcome going there. They showed me a model studio room. It was beautiful, but very small. My friend's mother is already in a 1-bedroom, so it's kind of overwhelming to start looking at studios. If it was a 1-bedroom, and we were like, 'OK, we're starting at $4000.' When it's a studio, it's depressing. I really like that it's a smaller community, but I'm not sure that would be a good place for my friend's mom because she has often expressed her opinions, and she can be kind of loud. Overall, I thought they were very nice and clean. I told the lady that she liked eating muffins, and they had homemade double chocolate chip muffins that they made for me before I left, and I thought that was really sweet of them. Overall, it was a very nice visit. I was there for 2 hours, but their parking could be tough. I went on a cold day. The staff had to come outside to show me where I could park because there were signs like, 'Park, Don't Park, Park.' It was inconvenient. I really like the cleanliness and the friendliness of the place. I would say that it was not very updated. It was not as upscale as I assumed it would be. It wasn't as new, and there were scratches on the elevators. It looked clean, but it was older."

"I cannot say enough positive things about Galloway Senior Living. Transitioning my dad to Memory Care was a tough decision for our family, but ended up being a great decision. The staff is truly exceptional—kind, compassionate, and engaging. The CNA’s take the time to understand the unique needs of each resident, ensuring personalized care; and the nurses keep us informed of any concerns or changes in behavior. In addition, the activity coordinator keeps my dad active throughout the day through fun and engaging activities. Families are always welcome, and Galloway regularly hosts family events that bring everyone together. In addition, the owners are responsive and genuinely value feedback from residents’ families. We are grateful for the care the Galloway team provides to our dad."

"My sister was living at Ciel Senior Living of Long Grove. It's very clean and very friendly. Their approach was excellent. Their food was sufficient, but it could use a variety. My sister's room was more than adequate. It's a nice size. She was in one with a bedroom, a front room, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. They did Scrabble and bingo, and they went out for lunch."

"This facility was new when I started coming there. It obviously had the start up business jitters but it quickly shook them off and from what I saw everything seemed on the up and up. The patients were well cared for and as opposed to the stereotype of the nursing home where no one knows anyone else and the staff are evil I saw actual care in the eyes of the nursing staff. The food staff was actually happy because the rules allowing them to talk and be themselves were there. Happy employees mean happy customers who in this case are the people living there. Assisted living means they help not do it for you and that boundary was strictly enforced in order to allow the elderly and injured the most possible independence. I would recommend this facility to any elderly or family that needs a place to feel secure and comfortable in their given environment. "

"I have been totally impressed with North Shore Place. I visited a number of memory communities on the North Shore for my mom, and none compared. The facility is excellent, the care is superior, everyone I meet there tries very hard to do the best job possible, and most importantly, I feel my mom is being cared for in the best way possible....and she is safe. The community is at capacity now, and the staff and activities directors have increased along with the number of residents. Activities take place on two sides of the floor, and in most cases, are geared toward similar cognitive abilities of the residents, But perhaps the most significant distinction of NSP is their Legacy Court Director. None of the other communities I visited had someone as professional, caring, and directly involved with all of the residents. This is truly a special place, and I feel very privileged that my mom is able to be a resident there with such caring people. "

"It was fine, and a lovely experience. The staff was lovely, informative, and helpful. The rooms were fine, adequate, clean, and well laid out, however, it was a bit far away. It's welcoming, small, and it had a nice garden. They have a bus, and they try to have activities for the residents. The dining room looked like a restaurant."

"We went to The Village at Victory Lakes a couple of months ago. They are on a large piece of land, so there were a lot of outdoor trails. It had all the other amenities, such as a beauty shop, a library, and a fitness center. It was very nice. This was probably 45 minutes from her home. There would be different doctors and shopping would be different stores in an area that she's not used to. We think the proximity to her home is one of the deciding factors for preferring the other place. The units were spacious and efficient. There was a lot of light and a lot of windows, which was a big plus. The staff was very accommodating and very friendly. The interaction with the tentants was very polite, very caring, and warm. We saw some tenants socializing. They had a meal plan, and it looked good and affordable. They offered parking for tenants. They offered transportation to doctor visits, shopping, and some type of field trips."

"I toured it and that was lovely. It seemed very active, too. A lot of things were going on when I was there. However, religiously my mom is very Catholic, and there's a majority of Jewish people there, so it just didn't seem like it was going to be a good fit permanently. The place itself was lovely, and the people and the residents seemed like they were happy and all that, so that was good. The apartment was nice too."
