Assisted Living Communities in Wheeling, IL

"This is an awesome facility! The entire staff is so nice, and it just feels homey. They have a large dining room with delicious - sounding meals, and a parlor room with TV and a fireplace to stay cozy during the winter months. The rooms are spacious and clean, and there are various activities for the residents. There is bingo, concerts, trips, movies, exercise and so much more. The caretakers are nice and warm to all the residents, and there are even volunteers that come to help out. During my visit, I saw two volunteers playing a game with a resident, and another doing a puzzle with one. Everything is nice and spacious, and there is even an old jukebox (that doesn't work but is still a nice addition) and popcorn machine with actually popcorn that you can eat. Also, the facility is located close to a store plaza with Wendy's, Dominick's, a pizza place, and more, so it's easy to take your loved one out to breakfast, lunch or dinner. There are games that you can play any time you want, like banana grams, scrabble, left right center, and more. In addition to all this, every resident gets their own "memory box", made by volunteers with stickers, cutouts and photos of the resident and things that he/she likes. This is a wonderful place and I would recommend it to anyone. "

"The Moorings was a nice place. There wasn’t anything particularly negative, except that I thought it was pricey for me. They do a nice job, and they have been there for years. They are a little pricey, but they are providing a little above average type of place for people who could afford it. At my end, I just don’t think I have the resources to go there. "

"I went to visit Brookdale Vernon Hills and it was unbelievable. It's so impressive and gorgeous. It has a spectacular rainforest, and all the rooms face the rainforest. The woman that takes you around is the best I've ever seen and they also had great activities. It's a tough choice. I was looking at their independent living, but they go down to all the levels. At some point, if you're independent living and you need a little help, they can just take care of you while you're in your apartment. So that's convenient."

"I moved into Sunrise of Highland Park. It's excellent. When I first started looking, I started talking to the sales and marketing person here, Kathy, I fell in love with her, I fell in love with the place, she was good to me, and she helped me all the way. She's awesome, and she just helped me with everything. The staff is excellent, very attentive, my room is small, it's a studio, it's the smallest one in the building, and it's the only one they had when I wanted to move here. But I've got plenty of room. It's very homey and cozy, and has a very big window. We have to eat in our rooms, the food comes in styrofoam containers, but I've been here a month, and I've never had the same thing twice; the food is excellent. Right now, we're getting ready to have a casino party, and they have exercise every day, and movie nights, and all of these activities are within the social distancing, we all are masked, we're all six feet apart, but they provide a lot of activities."

"It was clean and the people there were a lot active. The rooms looked pretty good. They had a nice setup for the dining room. It didn't have a full wall. It only had a half wall so residents could see you and you could see the residents. The main desk was right as you walked in, so that was convenient, and we didn't have to look for it. The staff was very informative and very professional. She followed up with me, which was nice. She was very bubbly and very happy. We were informed of the activities, how they presented the meals, that they had alternative meals, and we were shown a room. They had a barbershop and a library too."

"I'm in here. I'm struck by the kindness of the people to each other and the staff is very good. It's a comfortable living apartment that I have. Any request I've had, they've been able to answer or to accommodate. I'd give it a thumbs up. They prepare meals that are very tasty and nutritious, so I'm well pleased with the food. My room is very bright. I have my furniture and pictures hanging on the wall and I have a balcony. It's very comfortable for me. We went on a trip to Walgreens. I was able to pick up the things that I wanted and people in wheelchairs and walker were able to go. They are very accommodating. They had shopping trips to the Dollar Store, Wal-Mart, Aldi's, and Marshall's. They had a chair volleyball and the Rummikub club. They had the movie Apollo 13. That was just all in one day. Those are the opportunities that the people had. They had medical appointment transportation, supervised fitness center time and aerobics with the teacher, and menu chats so that the residents can meet and give suggestions to the chef for ideas at the table. There was music appreciation with Jim who played the beautiful cello concertos. There were bible readings, brain games, and bingo. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, they have movies, and other days it's bingo or another activity. They took the people to the Chinese restaurant. They offer many, many things. If you're not interested in one, you might be interested in another. I'm very well pleased here. Every day is a surprise. We get a menu on Sunday, so that we know what's coming up during the week. If there is something that you would like at the table, they will go and get it for you, like sometimes, somebody wants a banana and so they get the banana for the person. I'm just really amazed how they're able to answer. I had a cell phone conversation that I needed to have and they helped me out with that. The food is varied. We have fish offered each night at suppertime and other things that you might order in a restaurant. There are always vegetables and ice cream is offered each night for dessert along with pecan pie. The facility is very efficient and comfortable. They came and they hung my pictures in the living room and in the bedroom. Everything seems to be in order. My refrigerator seemed to run a lot, so I requested for somebody to check that up. I don't know who the architect was, but he or she was a smarty. There are places to sit outdoors and lots of greenery around and flowers. There are many rooms to go in. There are tables and chairs if you wanted to sit. Everything is carpeted. There's a computer room and a library. I had my blood pressure along with other people who wanted their blood pressure tested. When we have the music people, that's a well-attended gathering. It's well cared for. We have three elevators and wherever you are, it's clean and there are comfortable chairs. There's a beauty parlor and a swimming pool. They do swimming exercises and you can bring your relatives with the little kids and use the pool. There's the back porch and at 11:00, it opens up and you can bring a sandwich or a pop or a cup of coffee. The activities are very good and very creative, no two things on the same day or the day following. There's always a new activity. There's a beauty shop if you need that. I have not found fault. I feel that I'm getting much for the price."

"My mother has moved into Sunrise of Park Ridge, but we've only seen the outside. They won't let us inside the building. The care has been good, and she's making progress. It's a nice building. The reason I picked the facility is because the staff is so nice. They have a garden club, and she likes gardening. Her room is on the ground floor, it's really nice, it's on the corner of the building, and she has four windows. It's a good value for the money. If I kept her at home it's $10,500 to have 24/7 care, but for assisted living it's between $4,000 and $6,000, so it's basically half what it costs at home."

"I like the place; it’s lovely. I live near it. They’re very nice. My friend was there. She really likes it, and she’s a very particular person. "

"My mother is in Hawthorn Lakes, and they are terrific. We chose it because it is local. It is incredible how much they have going on there. They have card games, interactive games, dances, music, poker, bridge, and pool. They have outings. They have a theatre. They have book study clubs. You name it, they have it. They have nice rooms. Everything is clean and well-kept. They are awesome and amazing. I cannot say anything bad about them. "

"When I walked in the front door of Belmont Village Glenview, I immediately felt at home. It felt welcoming. It did not feel sterile. It felt comfortable. One thing I was impressed with is that they have such longevity in staff and most of their people have been there 10 plus years. They have physical therapy, which was very important to me. They also have a book club, and movie nights, bingo, and they have activities where you can sign up and be taken off the premises like field trips."

"I moved into Generations at Oakton Arms 4 months ago. The staff here is excellent. I'm extremely pleased with all of them. The whole facility is very cozy and very warm. My apartment is the largest suite that my daughter has seen in all of her tours and it is the least amount of money. The food is typical of this type of facility. It's certainly not gourmet dining, but it's certainly adequate and well-prepared. They have plenty of activities for those who wish to participate, like card games and guessing games."

"I can’t say enough great things about Storypoint Libertyville. From the moment my dad moved in, the staff made him feel truly welcomed and cared for. The transition from his home to independent living was something we were nervous about, but the team went above and beyond to make it seamless. The community is beautifully maintained, the meals are excellent, and there’s always something going on — from interesting activities to outings to happy hours. My dad has made more friends here than she’s had in years, and I can honestly say he’s thriving. What stands out most to me is how genuine the staff are. They know every resident by name, they check in often, and they treat everyone like family. I have complete peace of mind knowing he’s safe, happy, and living life to the fullest. Special thanks to Kristin Paro, whose leadership, attention to detail, and warm engagement with my father have made all the difference to his wellbeing. If you’re looking for a place where your loved one will be valued, active, and truly at home, I can’t recommend Storypoint Libertyville enough."

"I went to The Sheridan at Park Ridge. The staff was very, very good, very friendly, and very helpful. I watched them in the dining room with the residents in both the residence and in memory care. I did check the menu. I even have one at home, and the food selection was very good. They have a variety. I had asked what if someone can't read very well because of eyesight. They said they read the menu to the occupant. The facility was wonderful, and it was clean. The food looked delicious; I was ready to move in myself. I would trust my loved one there. It's assisted living and memory care. They have apartments there."

"My brother moved to The Wellshire Morton Grove. When I walked in, I was greeted very nicely. The community was very cheerful and had a warm feeling when I walked in. The service is very satisfactory. They ask a lot of questions about his well-being. They checked all his medications. They were very thorough. They have a barbershop. They also have a library. They have a big TV room and they have an exercise room. The dining area is very nice and the food is good."
