They had outside activities, and go out for dinners and lunches and movies depending on how active you can be. It would be very nice for active older folks. For my parents who are both in their 90s, it would not be as good."

They had a lot of things to do. They had a music room, a library, and movies. They had pretty much everything anybody would look for. The place was very nice."

"We visited The Heritage Pointe. They a beautiful and magnificent garden. Some of the rooms had balconies and terraces, there's a heated swimming pool and a jacuzzi. The apartments were smaller, but they had nice terraces, good light, and they were very nice and comfortable. There are different buildings scattered around the garden and that's lovely. Really good access. They can improve the food; I just wasn't impressed but then it could just be me. "

"I was impressed with a lot of the details at Byron Park on a recent visit to scope out possible homes for Mom and Mom-in-law. In general, everything seemed clean and well-maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. Residents seemed active and independent. Nice mountain views from most units, and a fairly quiet location. Particular pluses included: -- A greenhouse where residents can do year-round gardening. Seems like a great therapeutic idea. -- Document-shredding service provided. Most of the seniors I know are pretty concerned about privacy. What a great idea! -- Regular rummage sales for charity. A neat way to help with those accumulation challenges. -- A separate bus for medical appointments makes transportation more flexible. Of concern: -- Location is a bit out-there. You'll need their bus or a taxi to get to BART, entertainment or major shopping. -- Swimming pool isn't heated, and Mom-in-law likes to swim year-round."

"We toured Cogir of Vallejo Hills Senior Living. Their staff, as far as the interview went, was good. It was clean. The facility was good. What I liked about Cogir was that it was local. I would be close to my family, so I didn't have to go far to visit. They have to share a room."

"We visited Marymount Villa. The staff was very nice and very informative. Their activities were great. They had karaoke and music. The facility itself was more like an apartment building in a city. So, the rooms were not very nice. They were very dated, not well set up, and somewhat small. I was sure that somebody could make it their own, but it seemed very dated. However, the dining room was lovely. It was very well done. They had a great menu. For somebody who grew up in the city or who wanted an apartment style setting, that would definitely be the location for them. They also had a beautiful balcony. My father wasn't into the activities that they were mostly into, and he didn't like the apartment settings. It was a nice facility, but I would definitely say that the room needed work. "

"I've been to the Belmont Village Albany. We were shown the independent living. Although I know where the assisted living was, we did not go into that area. The woman who gave us the tour was very good. I thought she covered all the bases. We sat down before the tour and she explained everything very well. In our situation where my cousin is very touchy about her dementia, she never referred to her, but she just talked about the care offered to seniors in such a way that normalized the whole situation of "your memory is not quite what it was." She didn't say it the way I say it, but she just made that all sound very normal and that was just part of life there. I thought they did an excellent job. The staff was always friendly. We were introduced to the librarian and some care assistants. They were sitting in a breakroom and everyone was quite friendly. I like that they had fresh flowers on the table. It was a very beautiful arrangement. I liked that kind of attention to detail and that kind of life. It's an apartment-like facility, but it had several verandas. It had an outdoor space for people who wanted to garden. There was an outdoor eating area off of the dining hall. They had a casual eating area. They had a small gym and also an exercise room where someone did classes. It was a beautiful facility."

"Cogir of Vacaville Senior Living did not have memory care. I was looking for a place that had integrated memory care and assisted living, and that was one of the reasons why we didn't opt for that location. It's laid out well for indoor walking space. It was pleasant and well maintained."
