Along with mandatory dementia training for all staff, MC caregivers take part in a Virtual Dementia empathy experience, view and discuss videos specifically targeting dementia care approaches to bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, communicating and bathroom care and are trained in incorporating the Rhythm of the Day activities program for resident engagement and enjoyment.

With an average age of of 85, our residents enjoy a full activities calendar--from entertainment and events in-house to shopping and dining out along with golf cart excursions on the beautiful paths of Peachtree City. Over thirty volunteers offer weekly support with religious services, music, games and conversation to keep residents engaged and enjoying each day to the fullest!

Daily activities include morning exercise, bunco, bingo, music, 'brain games,' and religious services and lunch/shopping outings throughout the week. In the VILLAGE, (our memory care community) our trademarked Rhythm of the Day program offers residents a unique menu of exercise, music, hydration, group games, outings, visiting pets and cognitive stimulation.

Ashley Glen offers scheduled van service for medical, shopping and luncheon outings. In addition, our 6-seater golf cart is a fun way for staff to take residents out for ice cream or just to enjoy a ride to nearby Lake Peachtree!
What makes the chef or dining program at The Reserve at Peachtree City exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
Ashley Glen's Dining Services Director has many years of experience pulling together a talented team to provide delicious meals and snacks for our residents (as well as staff!) She is dedicated to learning each resident's dietary requirements along with personal food likes and dislikes. Restaurant style dining means residents never stand in line or carry trays and the menu is posted daily with substitute choices always available. Meals and snacks are 'social occasions' and are important for resident and staff interaction--especially around birthdays, parties and happy hour!
What safety features or security measures does The Reserve at Peachtree City offer to assisted living residents?
24-hour personal assistance utilizing customized care plans is in place and aided by a personal call system throughout the community. Door alerts (plus window alerts in memory care) signal staff beepers and staff communicate by 'walkie-talkie' to continuously monitor resident care. Fire safety is addressed by repetitive training and drills for each shift monthly. Weather and disaster training is in place through staff inservice sessions and practice drills. All staff are certified in CPR and First Aid with repeated training and certification every two years. Additionally, Ashley Glen is very fortunate to be close to city services for police, fire or medical needs.
How does The Reserve at Peachtree City keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
In a true resident emergency, 911 would be our first call, and then family is informed immediately. In a non-emergency, the first call would be to the family to discuss any concerns and get input regarding any issues affecting their loved one. Ashley Glen also offers the in-home services of a podiatrist, dentist, physical therapy staff and hospice care to help with residents' needs and keep families informed. Regularly scheduled care plan meetings are arranged with each family, and even more importantly, family phone calls, informal visits and 'hallway meetings' are invited and encouraged!

Ashley Glen welcomes residents who are caring for a pet and provides a fenced 'back yard' for their enjoyment. Residents and families can also make use of the golf cart path and may visit dog parks in the area. Grooming and boarding services are located nearby.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
Mandatory monthly in-service attendance with additional monthly self-guided learning tests address a wide variety of topics from safety to dementia care to proper handling of bio-hazardous waste, as well as training regarding fall prevention, diabetes, stroke and effective communication and much more. Many of Ashley Glen's staff have been serving seniors here for over 5, 10 or 15 years and some have been here from the beginning--over 20 years ago! There is always more to learn and training at Ashley Glen never stops.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
At all times, 24 hours/day two caregivers are on duty in the Village. Additionally an activities staff member provides a full day of the Rhythm of the Day activities 7 days/week.

In addition to door alerts available throughout the building, extra safety and security is provided in the VILLAGE, Ashley Glen's memory care community. Its wing of 18 private rooms extending from its Living Room and Dining Room areas offer door and window alerts that beep the care staff when opened or raised so that immediate attention can be paid to how and why that alert is happening. Excellent staff training, observation and engagement of residents help ensure the safety of all our residents.
What programs or activities does The Reserve at Peachtree City offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Ashley Glen's trademarked Rhythm of the Day provides stimulating activities involving sensory engagement including sound, aroma, food, tactile experiences, and visual games. Socialization around meals, beverages and snacks is a chance to use conversation and engage in long-term memory functions for a feeling of competency. Music--especially from teen and early adult years--often sparks movement, laughter and singing.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Resident Care Director (RNBS) and her staff of Certifies Nursing Assistants are on the alert 24/7 for signals of any changes in baseline functioning of a resident. Formally, a re-assessment is done quarterly for MC residents and twice yearly for SL residents. A re-assessment is also done after a change in condition such as a hospitalization or short stay in a rehabilitation center. In addition, residents are offered in-home services of a podiatrist, dentist, physical therapist and hospice provider as needed.
What techniques does The Reserve at Peachtree City use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
Encouraging reminders and/or prompting can often help residents continue feeding themselves successfully, sometimes with the help of special plates, flatware and finger foods. Ashley Glen's staff is trained to feed residents who may require it. Making mealtimes a social experience, with music in the background for instance, is meant to invoke long-term memories of pleasant meals with family and friends.

Formally, a quarterly care-plan meeting face to face or by phone with long-distance family members is the mechanism for review and planning. Informally, phone calls, family drop-in visits and 'hallway meetings' are all invited and encouraged to keep communication open and up-to-date.

Piedmont Fayette Hospital, along with very close-by Urgent Care centers and multiple physician practices in the neighborhood provide state-of-the-art medical care for our residents. While Ashley Glen is not officially affiliated with any one medical group, our staff has relationships with many care providers, some of whom visit residents here in our building. Our 911 service providers are located very close by for fast transportation to the emergency room when needed.
