What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Dementia training is mandated upon hire at the home office. Additionally, classes are offered via Phoenix University. Of note, PSL offers staff the opportunity to become Certified Dementia Practitioners.
Describe the overall population of assisted living residents at The Retreat at Jasper. What is their average age? What are their favorite things to do?
We have very high-functioning and involved residents. The average age is between 80-85. Favorite activities vary as we strive and succeed in offering programs based on resident's choices and interests. We are definitely not cookie-cutter!
What programs or activities does The Retreat at Jasper offer to enrich residents' well-being?
Activities include exercise, Bingo, music-oriented programs, socials, lifelong learning, gardening, crafts, painting and discussion groups. We enjoy trips to local restaurants as well as rides to ATL to take advantage of all the city has to offer.
What places are near The Retreat at Jasper or within walking distance for assisted living residents to enjoy?
Our community has an array of shopping options nearby inclusive of Walmart, Ingles, Kroger, restaurants, and awesome Downtown Jasper.
What transportation services does The Retreat at Jasper offer to assisted living residents?
We have a community bus for activity outings. We do offer rides for medical appointments within a 10 mile radius on specific days with advanced notice.
What makes the chef or dining program at The Retreat at Jasper exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
Everyday there is a homemade soup and/or salad that precedes lunch. To follow, there are well-balanced entrees served. There is an Alternative/Always Available menu as well.
What safety features or security measures does The Retreat at Jasper offer to assisted living residents?
We have 24/7 staff; all doors are key-coded there is a receptionist present seven days per week from 9am to 5pm.
How does The Retreat at Jasper keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
We pride ourselves on open on-going communication with our family members via email, text, phone calls or 1:1 visits.
What is the care staff-to-resident ratio at The Retreat at Jasper during daytime and nighttime hours?
We exceed state staffing regulations. During awake hours, we have 3 Med Techs and 5 Resident Care Associates on duty. During sleeping hours, we have 1 Med Tech and 3 Resident Care Associates on duty.
If The Retreat at Jasper accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
We gladly accept four-legged friends with certain weight restrictions. The community has grounds in the back where owners can walk their dogs.
What ongoing senior care training does the staff receive?
Phoenix is HUGE on training! Matter of fact, the company has Phoenix University, an on-line program, where staff is afforded the opportunity to hop on and take a class. Additionally, all staff are required to attend two Core Trainings at the home office upon hire as well as annual reviews of mandatories and other topics that enhance the services that we render.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
Typically, we have 3 during the day and 2 during the night.
What safety features or security measures does The Retreat at Jasper provide to protect residents who wander?
We have a secured unit as well as pagers that alert whenever doors open.
What programs or activities does The Retreat at Jasper offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
The Retreat at Jasper's Executive Director has extensive experience in Memory Care so this is an area that this community takes very seriously. Memory Care residents are kept engaged throughout the day participating in activities that are based on prior occupations, known interests and preferences all with the goal of providing enjoyment, fulfillment and a sense of purpose. We strongly believe in the magic of music therapy and routinely incorporate into the residents' day.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
The Wellness Director is responsible for assessments with on-going input from the care staff. Assessments are completed upon move-in, quarterly and if there is a change in condition.
What techniques does The Retreat at Jasper use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
If necessary, the staff can provide hand over hand assistance while always encouraging the residents to do as much as themselves as possible with oversight. We offer finger foods, ground and puree diets.

The management staff maintains on-going open communication with families via email, phone calls, text and 1:1 meetings.

The Retreat at Jasper is located in a small-town "Mayberry" setting with a beautiful field out front and a view of the mountains out back.

We do not have a direct affiliation per say, but we are near both Piedmont and Northside Cherokee.
