I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband got a special room at Summit Rehabilitation And Care Community because he was there for rehab. Anybody that has rehab gets a single room. Otherwise, it would be small. It was very nice. The staff was excellent. They learned everybody's name. They learned my husband's name immediately and tried to work for him and take care of him. They didn't push him off on anybody else or have any problems with him. So, I think that was the strong point. They were committed to the patients. My husband didn't do any activities, but even when I was coming and going, I didn't see a lot of activities. I don't know where they were doing it. They watched movies. I saw that going on. The food was average for a nursing home. Not so good. The facility was very old and it was hot. They had no air conditioning, but it looked nice and very clean. They could have improved by getting some room air conditioners because the front of the building had air conditioning while the patient areas had some rooftop water coolers, which puts it way back in date. I don't know how old it was when they were doing those, but it was a long time ago. They were also redoing the kitchen area and we got a letter while we were there that said "Sorry about the food of late. However, we're remodeling the kitchen and getting rid of all the old stuff." It was like beans every other day and it just was not appetizing.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I'll try to be short but it may be hard. This place doesn't even deserve one start, but they system made me put one. My mom was here for over 2 months, and was treated worse than you can imagine. She had a UTI and it took 10 days to get her on medication. They were giving her stool softeners when she had diarrhea and it took well over a week to get them to stop. The diet was terrible, she's a diabetic and they have no low carbs choices for special diets. Now for the nurses, almost all were rude and manhandled her. Her leg was cut open on the inside and outside from the knee to her ankle and the nurse would come in to change her dressing and literally pick her leg up and drop it on the bed. Some people should not be in this field and I think that goes for about 90% of the employee's at this place. I went all the way to the director of the facility with my complaints and he listened, but then I got nothing but excuses after that. There are so many things that went wrong, I could go on and on, but the most important was their lack of following mom's surgeons after surgery care, which caused her to have to go to a wound clinic for over 2 months after she left this place. I know it's hard to figure out which reviews you should take to heart but please believe me when I say PLEASE don't put your loved one in this facility. Mom took another fall and will end up in another facility for a couple weeks and I'm struggling so hard with finding a place for her. Please remember, if you use one of these facilities, place an honest review as this place had a 4 star rating and totally doesn't even deserve 1 star. Save your loved ones a lot of misery and don't allow them to be put in Summit!

I visited this facility

The Summit was nice. It was an older facility that has been remodeled and bought over in the last three years. It was immaculate, but for some reasons my mother did not like this facility. They were very nice. The administrator was extremely nice because we were over there a couple of times. They had decorated for Halloween, and they had a facility animal -- a dog -- and then a couple of people had small dogs, so they allowed you to have your pets. It had a lot of advantages. Everything there was immaculate. They had new bathroom facilities that had been remodeled and included like a bathtub that you step into and close the door like you see on TV. They have been working hard at remodeling, painting, and things like that. It is located among an older housing area, but it is a clean area, and they are remodeling. The biggest downside from the outside would be parking.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother is in a nursing home called Summit Rehabilitation and Care Community. The place is not modern. However, they have everything that my mother needs. They treat her very well. Their staff seems to be very good too. Their rooms are just adequate as well. My mother is very happy with the food. They also have activities that are going on all the time. They have people coming in to play music, and she enjoys that. I would say that my mother seems to be reasonably happy there even though she has dementia.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My husband suffers from dementia and entered Summit two months ago. I visit him daily. I watch him with the staff. I watch the staff with other patients. I see that it is hard work to care for patients who do not understand most directions and cannot use logic to evaluate an act. I watch a staff member return a patient to his or her chair five to six times while getting ready for a meal. Sometimes the staff dances a little with the patient while leading the patient to the chair. It makes the act a pleasure. When I ask staff about my husband's day that has happened so far they answer with detail. They tell me that his shower went well that morning, how the blood pressure is for the day, whether he had a good night's sleep, and what he's been doing. They talk with me for a while and since we've slowly gotten to know each other, they ask about me too, as I ask about them. They ask how I'm doing and about my children and grandchildren. I ask about their lives outside of work. We are becoming a part of the community, which I value, since I have given these professional people the trust for my husband's care. In the two months I have been coming to this good place, I have seen an incredible amount of kindness and respect along with professional approaches given to my husband and the other patients. I feel very lucky that there was one bed available when we needed it. I believe that this facility follows the quote by the Buddha: "Life is so very difficult. How can we be anything but kind." I am grateful.
