Whittier Glen Assisted Living looked good, but it's not for us because we're still independent. For us, it looked kind of sad. They showed us a room and it looked clean. There's not enough parking. There's not enough place outside for people to enjoy the day or enjoy outside. The staff was really good. There were some people outside sitting and talking. We didn't see any activity. The dining area looked good, was small, but it looked clean.

I did an in-person tour of Whittier Glen Assisted Living. I looked at housing and they showed me activities. They walked with me to give a basic tour and showed me the communal spaces and the private rooms. I think the layout was fine. I haven't seen the other ones, so I don't know how to compare them or what stood out. They mentioned that some of the building was getting renovated, which is rnice because when I first stepped in, I thought it looked kind of old and rundown, but I could see that they're making some improvements. They, at least, tried to keep some activities out and people seemed relatively happy. Some of the residents, one of them in particular, were extremely enthusiastic about living there. It was nice to hear the stories about it. I didn't see anything like red flags or anything of that sort so that was comforting. Some of the staff seemed very good. The one that was giving us the tour was enthusiastic and kind. Some of them seemed helpful too and the receptionist was nice. It's very obvious that we're touring the place so I'm not sure how genuine some of it is. They showed me a room that would be a potential room if we were to rent there. It's just above our budget and that's the only reason why we haven't proceeded with it. The room was fine. I thought it works and I just think it's more of a cost issue. It just exceeded by a lot. I think the rooms were all right and my father doesn't have a very high expectation for any kind of residence. They were very welcoming. They even have donuts on a table but I didn't want anything. I felt the amenities were alright. I didn't know what to expect, but I thought some of it looked very old. A lot of the carpeting looked very old to me, some of the walls too and the elevator. I'm just maybe an optimistic person but I would think that since they were already in the process of replacing flooring and some of the rooms, I would imagine that down the line, it would be improved too. It wasn't clean to me, but it was being renovated, so I could tell that they were attempting to. There's a variety of things happening, I think that's the main reason why it's not very clean. It's nice to know that they also had a shuttle service for people to get groceries. It seems like they were trying to create a sense of community. What I appreciate is that they don't make people feel trapped. I feel like they tried to make things work safely too by going within certain hours and prohibiting the seniors from using fire or any sort of fire-related equipment or just cooking on their own. They were also trying to give flexibility to seniors, like maybe offering them one or two trips out to run an errand, like at grocery stores down the block or something, and accommodating people's diets and such. The person that I talked to was quite helpful. One of my concerns was my dad being religious so he likes to burn incense, which is a fire hazard. She was very accommodating in that she followed up and checked up on us and did some research. She came up with the battery-operated kind of solution so he can maintain his incense practice, but at the same time, not use fire. I thought that was kind of thoughtful and considerate of them.

I met with the Whittier Glen Assisted Living's director, Sophie. She was very nice and pleasant. She just gave me a good feeling about the facility when she showed me around. Everything was nice, and it was clean. The clients there looked really happy, and they were involved in an activity when I got there. I saw the model showroom, and it was set up really nicely. I'm just looking forward to my mom having a great experience there at this point. I just want her to be happy and comfortable, and it seems as though this community would be able to provide that for her. Of course, once my mom gets in there, I still need to see how things are going and how well she's kept. Other than the director, I also met the receptionist, Christina, and a couple of hospitality staff. They were all pleasant. I also saw the food menu, and it looked OK. I did not actually see any of the actual food being served. I was shown several different activities, like exercise therapy and reading. That particular day, they were having a Christian activity. They were singing church hymns, and they were talking to a group that was there. They had the residents involved. It looked like they were reading to the residents, and the residents would have to respond. I'm not sure what this activity was called.

We went to Whittier Glen (Brookdale Casa Whittier), and a lady provided information and talked to us. We saw an individual room, which was good-sized. They had bingo, outings to different places, and religious services. The staff was nice and friendly.

My dad is in Brookdale Casa Whittier, and I love it. He is happy there. It is very small and quaint. The dining area is very nice, and it looks like you are going into a restaurant.

I did visit Brookdale Casa Whittier, and I liked it. The lady that I spoke to was extremely nice. I like the facility, but the problem was they only have an upstairs room, and that is going to be hard enough for my uncle because I knew that he would never be able to figure out where his room was.

My mother stayed at Brookdale Casa Whittier for less than two weeks. She is a very stubborn woman, and she kept complaining, but it was the best cost-wise, and I had no problem with the staff. They kept me informed every day, and they would call me with an update and let me know her daily activities and everything about what's going on. Everything was wonderful, and even the people that lived there were very nice. Her room was really nice. The dining area and the food were good. They had all sorts of activities. They do outside functions, and they do beading, but she is a loner, she just wanted to watch TV, and she didn't want to participate.

My mother moved to Brookdale at Casa Whittier back in November. They are just really caring, and this was the most affordable one for us. The staff is excellent and very helpful, and we're really happy having her there. She loves this place because there are more people her age. She is actually doing activities she never wanted to do like the exercise program and Bingo. Everyday, they have so many things for her to do, and she is really enjoying them.

Everything is fine at Emeritus, and mother loves it very much. They have many activities daily. Once a month performers come in and every day they have classes, a yoga instructor comes, people play music for them, and they have outings. The rooms are not larger but adequate. It’s a smaller type of facility which makes it home like. It’s probably one of the best ones I’ve seen.

Emeritus was very nice. They were very caring and interested in what I need. The apartments were very nice and had a living area, bedroom, and kitchenette. I liked that they have three areas for the rooms. They have weekly and monthly programs.

The best in Emeritus at Casa Whittier is the people. They were very kind. But the place is old and worn out. The facility is too expensive. I felt the rooms were too small as well. Once I saw the rooms, there was no way I would put my mom in there.

I don't really remember the specifics when I went to Emeritus at Casa Whittier other than my feeling that it would be a nice place to live.

Emeritus is a well-maintained facility and the food is good. It has a cafe for residents to meet and socialize in and it encourages residents who are musicians to play music for the other residents.

We would have preferred my mother to be at Emeritus Casa because it was closer, but we didn't like it because of the condition of the building. When you walked in, the place was dingy and the carpet was dirty. It looked unkept. But the staff and the rooms were nice. The dining room was fine. The people didn't look happy. They looked like they were sitting there waiting for their time to end. They had activities, but once I saw the place, I didn't go any further.
