I visited this facility

Two close friends and I (all senior citizens) visited Silvergate Rancho Bernardo in the Spring of 2023 and immediately knew that we’d found paradise in a lovely area of San Diego. We’d already looked at several other residential places for seniors, so we had a sense of what we might expect. We were blown away by the excellence at Silvergate. We were looking, of course, for security, excellence in both the care and the environment, a compassionate staff, and a sense of community. We wanted to meet residents and staff at each level of care. We found all of the qualities we sought—and so much more. Any residential care community is only as good as its people. Silvergate seems to select only the best of the best. The administrators, caregivers, activity coordinators, groundskeepers, custodial engineers, and food service staff we met were kind, patient, welcoming, diligent, and knowledgeable. We spoke with residents and staff members in every building we toured. We also talked with residents who were out on their patios or walking around the lovely grounds—people who were not officially part of our tour. Consistently, the messages we heard were about quality, enjoyment, and compassion. We also heard residents talk about making new friends and participating in their favorite events from the wide variety of enrichment activities. I need to mention how beautiful the entire campus is. It is stunning. We walked around smiling at the lovely greenbelts, the flowers, shade trees, comfortable outdoor community areas, places to sit outside on a bench and simply take in the beauty of nature. We were talking about the sheer beauty of the grounds for days afterwards. Each building was fresh inside and clean. Amenities were evident everywhere. The residents’ rooms were spacious and cheerful. We agreed that we felt a sense of peace. All three of us agreed that this is a community where we would choose to live when we are ready to make that move. We’ve since been telling our friends and relatives about it. There is no buy-in, and the pricing seems quite reasonable. We are delighted that we found Silvergate Rancho Bernardo and look forward to living there or visiting loved ones there in the future.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom recently moved in and we expected it to be a difficult transition emotionally. Since day one she has never looked back and keeps telling me how happy she is! The staff and residents are so nice and helpful and she already has made friends and is busy with the activities. This move has been so beneficial for her physical and mental health, and it is all because of the wonderful people and beautiful facility.

I visited this facility

What I liked about Silvergate Rancho Bernardo was that many things are included in the price of rent. I'm in a senior community now and I have to pay separately for several things, but there, they're included. They also have more activities. They have a wonderful art room that I will enjoy. We ate in their dining room which had tablecloths for lunch and it was lovely. I had a shrimp cocktail with the largest shrimp I've ever seen in my life. I had a sandwich and yam fries for lunch. Dessert was Pistachio gelato. I thought I was in heaven. I went to five communities and it was the best.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I first visited this facility 1 year ago along with visiting 10 other facilities in San Diego. We were looking for a new home for a parent. After visiting so many facilities I can say this was the best place we visited. It looks like a resort, with a grand entrance, a pool, a boccie court, a courtyard where they have get togethers with all the residents. I have been to a few of their holiday parties where they bring in bands and serve lots of drinks and food. They are really awesome! I have even eaten dinner and lunch there, in the bar and the dining room, many times and the meals and drink are always very good. Pam and Lisa are great. They walked us through the whole process and showed us how to obtain a beautifully designed 2 bedroom unit within a short period of time. Every time I go there I am greeted very well by all of the staff. It is really a great place. If you are looking for a great community to live in, you certainly should visit Silvergate Rancho Bernardo.

I am/was a resident of this facility

Silvergate Rancho Bernardo is uniquely designed as a small boutique hotel or resort, enabling us, as residents, to all meet and show care/concern for each other in a very special way! Our senior residential living community is impressively atypical from the others in its care facility classification; i.e. the excellent, available food is provided at two restaurants; the property provides a beautifully landscaped, spacious courtyard, swimming pool and Club House. Inside this warm, inviting community we all find amenities to fit our diverse desires. These amenities include a hair salon, fitness center, theatre, game lounge, art studio, yoga studio, spa, socials, and clubs, just to name a few. Relocating to a community such as Silvergate Rancho Bernardo was a big life decision for us. However, this decision was made a lot easier when ALL of the existing residents we met (some of whom we knew) had nothing but the highest praise for the community, its amenities and staff. And speaking of staff, the patience, compassion, responsiveness and professionalism of the marketing team was exemplary in ensuring our comfort from the initial introduction to Silvergate through the entire consideration and move-in process. They, along with all of the other on-site staff, are great ambassadors for Silvergate Rancho Bernardo and all it offers us, as residents! We certainly join the many who highly recommend Silvergate Rancho Bernardo! From the food and staff to the diverse activities offered, we feel Silvergate Rancho Bernardo provides us a high value in daily living!

I visited this facility

I visited Silvergate again to show my son where I wish to move. He was not expecting such a lovely facility. When we toured the rooms he said he could picture me living there and was very pleased with the events and services offered. We had a wonderful lunch. The salad greens were so fresh and served attractively. We felt very welcome and the staff helpful.I am on the waiting list for a spot at Silvergate and can't wait until I am a resident.

This is the best place we have visited. Lisa was very personable and helpful. She spent considerable time with us showing us the various accommodations. This is our first choice at this time.

I visited this facility

Silvergate Rancho Bernardo is my favorite of all the places I've toured. I ate there and experienced everything during my visit, but there was a long waiting list. The staff who gave me the tour was extremely nice, professional, and knowledgeable, I could tell that everybody liked her. Everybody said hi to her, she's a part of the community. She then followed through and has been excellent as well. Their cottages have a 5-year waiting list and I put a lot of money down to be on the waiting list, they're my favorite. They had everything, it's fairly new so everything is new and shiny. It's very, very nice. They had a beautiful heated outdoor pool and a very nice dining room, and the lobby was beautiful. So my first impression was very good. I also ate there and the food was excellent. I'm also going to a party they're having for everyone there. The apartments were so small but I would put up living there because everything else about the place was wonderful. They also have a free service to help you move, or help you do an estate sale of what you don't need, and a garage sale. They'll help you choose the furniture and they'll do all the moving for you. So you just walk over and it's there. I thought that was wonderful.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

At the time of this review, my mom has been at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo for 10 months. While it was a difficult transition for her to make, it was and is the care provider staff, particularly Sally and her activities team, that have made the difference. Silvergate is what I consider a luxury environment and but within that environment are separate communities and private living spaces configured without hallways. Residents walk right out of their rooms into a large dinning space and activities room- hard to get lost and always close to any event going on. Mom loves the on site salon, getting her hair done, the manicures, the events, live music, and crafts, and I appreciate that the facility has facilitated that we can have on site medical care including that of a primary physician and recently psych services- all that is extremely important our family. Bottom line is she likes it at Silvergate and never thought she would say that after leaving her house of 64 years. I am also very happy with the leadership team, they are responsive, available, and really care about their residents.

I first visited with my son and we both felt it was the perfect community for me in so many ways. I have lived here 2 years now and the activities are great! Everyone is so kind, knowledgeable and willing to help. I very much appreciate all the support from the front desk employees.

A newer top quality medium scale facility filled with caring staff and friendly residents. Food and tremendous range of age appropriate activities are all excellent and way beyond initial expectations for this style of living. Highly recommended.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I moved into Silvergate RB almost 2 years ago and have no regrets. I was attracted to this community because it was newly built, in my usual neighborhood, and it had a meal plan option which reduced the price. I am almost a vegetarian so having to pay for a meal plan would be a complete waste of money for me. The staff is wonderful, I feel completely safe, and there are activities but no pressure to join in. The landscaping is xeriscape but it is lush and beautiful. Anytime I need anything, I call the desk and it is taken care of. I’ve made friends here and when I need assisted living, I can stay in the same apartment. Silvergate is a perfect choice for me!

My husband and I have been very happy living in Silvergate Rancho Bernardo. We have a lovely "cottage" with a large patio and garage. They are built well, with high ceilings and lots of light. I am in walking distance from so many activities, and there are SO MANY ACTIVITIES available here. I have Parkinsons', so exercise is extremely important for me. I have many different types of exercise classes within a 5 minute walk from my door. The teachers are very skilled at working with many fitness levels of seniors. For example, we have Tai Chi classes given 5 times a week to help with balance and coordination. I also love water aerobics twice a week. In addition, Silvergate brought in an occupational and physical therapy group who now offer their services here on site. I was extremely fortunate to find that one of these professionals was trained and certified in a special movement program for Parkinson's and I was quickly able to sign up and take the training--and it helped a lot! I truly believe my health has IMPROVED since moving into Silvergate. And if I get worse eventually, I know there is good care available here too, so I feel prepared for the future. Residents are encouraged and supported in offering services if they wish. So I have begun offering a discussion group on aging issues, and another resident offers his skills as a painting and writing teacher. My husband started painting with him, and now is producing beautiful paintings that amaze people--having never painted before in his life! We also enjoy a lovely circle of new friends here, and we have come to value a weekly dinner with them on Sat. nights. Then we go to a movie in the main house! There are also live concerts of many kinds, outings to the theatre, and parties. It's a good life!

Silvergate Rancho Bernardo was a beautiful facility. We witnessed a lot of activities when we were there. They had a barber shop/beauty shop, a podiatrist, onsite health care for emergencies, and an extra nice little bonus restaurant that you could go to. The lady that gave the tour was attentive, kind, and perceptive to the situation.

We had an in-person visit at Silvergate Rancho Bernardo. We liked best that it was a brand-new facility with very nice decor. The people that we met and the staff, they're very nice and the people that we met with comported themselves very professionally. They had good food, it was better than average. They had all types of amenities including physical fitness, a dining room, a library, movies, and so on. It's very professionally managed.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has been a resident at Silvergate's memory care suites for 6 months. While the facility is beautiful our overall experience has been below average. There is a lack of communication from management. Poor house cleaning (dirty toilet on most visits). Food quality has declined (which is a hard sell from sales team). Staff is always changing which makes you feel like no one has a true grasp on my mom's health/well being. The BEST part of Silvergate are the two Activities ladies. Sally is amazing and always seems to know how my mom is doing and genuinely cares about her.

Provider Response

Dear gspitzley, I am sorry you feel our services have declined in any way. The past few months have been such a challenge for our community and many other communities as well. Hiring and retaining staff has been extremely difficult. Staffing shortages have been very common in the hospitality industry since the pandemic. Our first priority has always been that your loved one receives care. Yes, this has meant different faces at times. The upside to this is Silvergate Rancho Bernardo pulled out all the stops to combat the staffing shortage. We have increased starting wages for all care and culinary staff, in addition to bonuses. This strategy has turned out to be successful and we have many new hires and a full culinary team. We have also increased management oversight in our memory care by way of a second full time Director scheduled to start in October. I agree with you, our activity department is amazing and they are all superstars. Thank you for riding out this journey/pandemic with us as it has been a real challenge. I know you will soon feel and see the difference with the staff and additional management we have implemented. I invite you to contact me directly if you have further concerns or comments. The caregiver team is simply wonderful, to the last worker. They show infinite patience and compassion. They are competent and master their difficult task with competence.

Provider Response

Thank you so much for your great review Freddy! We do our best to provide excellent service from every department, I am so glad we've met those expectations and we will continue to do so with all our residents.
