Assisted Living Communities in Bristol, TN

"I went to Abundant Christian Living. The one-bedroom was nice. The two-bedroom wasn't laid out very well. It's too big. Or the one-bedroom was too small. That's just my opinion. No storage, no place to store anything that I can tell. They never showed me any storage area, so I was disappointed. They had good amenities. They had social areas. I think they had a library. They had a cafeteria. I didn't have any problem with the amenities. The problem is they offer you 30 meals a month. Whether you use them or not, you have to pay for them. I would cook my own breakfast and lunch. I would probably be interested in supper, but I'd like to go out once in a while, too. But you don't get any credit for not eating meals. You just pay for 30 meals a month, regardless of whether you eat them or not. There's only one lady and she answered all my questions. She was very informative, very polite, and very nice. I didn't have a problem with her at all."

"We toured Brookdale Rock Springs. I like it very much. If I were choosing right now, that would probably be it. I like their apartments. It just felt good when I was there. I like the people. They did have some ground floor and that would be a good possibility for me. I liked the staff very much. We met a couple other staff from the other department and we liked them, too. They were very friendly."

"StoryPoint is one of the nicest facilities I have ever been in. There are many activities that are available for the residents to participate in and the daily menu is amazing with lots of choices. The staff is so compassionate and helpful and truly care about the residents. I would highly recommend this facility."

"The person who showed me around was lovely. I just did not like the feel of it. It seemed dark inside, but they seemed to have a lot of personal interaction with the residents. The rooms seemed a little smaller. "

"The Service was excellent , residents seem happy and enjoy the environment, which is on solar hill above downtown bristol. I have visited my grandmother at Fort Shelby recently. she was happy and well attended for, reported well of the service and enjoyed the food and interaction with housemates. "

"Covington Senior Living of Lehi was a brand new facility that just opened. They were still putting in chairs and things. They had a flat rate, but when we looked at what the flat rate covered, it didn't cover all the things we thought it would, and it was quite a distance from where we live in American Fork to get to them. It would be right through the center of Lehi to get to them. They were nice people and accommodating. We were considering them. They were still working on it, but it looked like a nice facility. The staff during the tour was very nice. They had all the amenities that everyone else has, or at least they would have once they're done working on the place. They have separate eating facilities and rooms to meet them. They have a library, a movie room, and an exercise room. It's easy parking. The exterior was clean and attractive and the grounds were attractive. It's a safe enclosed area. Our tour guide was listening to all our needs. They have a nice dining room, there were snacks available, and they cater to specific dietary needs. There was a posted activities list. There were private rooms available."

"We have already placed my sister in Renaissance House. The place is OK, but it is pretty institutional-looking, i.e., not cinder block walls, and not homey. My sister shares a room with someone. It is not very large, but it is OK. This place is sort of in the residential area. They can get on a bus and go around and go to the stores, shopping centers, movie theaters and things like that. That's relatively nice that they have access to that, but they have to pay for it. Also, you could walk around outside the facility. So far, the activities are pretty limited. The food looks unappealing to me, i.e., like hotdogs, beans. They're cheap and not healthy food. I would pick my sister out and take her out every chance I get. What they could improve on, is that they could get a real dietitian in there to plan healthy vegetables. They hardly ever have fresh vegetables and fruits to eat. Also, they could have activities for them. The place is nice and clean, but I think they could make it a little more stimulating and find a way to take them places where it doesn't cost them more money. "

"Abingdon Manor has obviously seen better days, at least as far as the building goes. Some attempt has been made to decorate it, but it needs quite a bit more to make give it a more home-like environment. Of all the staff I encountered there, only one was wearing scrubs; the others had on just street clothes making them hardly distinguishable from the residents except for obvious age and mobiity differences. However, the environment was clean and orderly, although lacking in air conditioning. The staff seemed to interact well with the residents, who were themselves fairly clean and neat and seemed to have no overt complaints. The manager was conspicuous by her absence. "

"I was welcomed warmly when I arrived. The atmosphere was very pleasant.The staff was very helpful and knowledgable about all areas in which I had questions. The location is excellent just a 2-3 minute drive from Indian Path Medical Center and a 5-7 minute drive from Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center. The exterior view was wonderous as it is set off the highway and surrounded by the beauty that only tennessee has to offer. The interior area was equally nice. I feel comfortable that when the time finally comes for my mom to have to give up complete independance that this is where she will go to. After driving around and looking at other facilities this is by far one of the top in the area. My mom and I sat down and discussed what I had seen and she is comfortable in my judgement of this establishment. My mom says that when the time comes would love to be a resident here. "

"My mother is in Preston Place in her own separate living quarters. Everybody is really nice and friendly. They have all kinds of activities throughout the day. They help with her bathing three times a week, do the laundry, clean the apartments, and make the bed. They have their own beauty shop there. We are allowed to eat with her if we pay a little bit out of our pocket. Everything I eat with her is delicious. They bring the food to the table, and if they do not like it, they will get them something different. Her room has a little living room, a kitchenette, a bedroom, and bath. "

"Life Care Center of Gray is a very warm facility. They seem very caring. The caregivers seem very concerned. The physical therapists, and the CNA are the only ones I’ve seen interacting with my husband. The physical therapists do everything they can to speed up his recovery so he can go to the assisted living. I feel that they are working very hard, and they are very concerned about him. "

"I visited The Blake at Kingsport for my mom. It is very, very costly, but it is very nice. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable; I only spoke with two different people. We did not get to try the food, but it looked very good. We got to look at sample menus and it was above and beyond what you would normally find. It was very clean and well-maintained. I saw two rooms that were available to be used and the maintenance and cleanliness was very good. I know they have transportation available for their guests, and they can take them to do different things. I also know they have activities within the facility. I don't know a lot of the details, but I know they offer a lot. The dining area was very large and open, and they had many tables, so it was not like they were sitting in large groups of people at tables, it was more so two to four people at the most. It was very bright, and the area was all light and windows, and it was inviting."

"My grandmother is now in Princeton Transitional Care and Assisted Living, it's nice. It's newer, they offer 24-hour nursing care, and they do the meals. I liked it because it was all one price, while in a lot of places, it's like a la carte so there are a lot of different fees for different things that they do. And here, everything is already included like help with dressing, showers, and all of that stuff is all included in one price. It's not like where they'll suddenly start adding additional costs as they need additional care, so I like that option. They have different room options. She's in a studio apartment, so it's one big room and she has a nice-size bathroom that's handicap accessible, with a walk-in shower, and a nice built-in seat. And then it has a little kitchenette with almost a full-size refrigerator, they provide the refrigerator and a microwave. There's a lot of cabinet space and a little sink, it's a nice little kitchenette. All of them have windows looking either outside or into the courtyard. They also offer two rooms and stuff like that, but she's just in a studio. The staff has been very attentive and very helpful. When I call and check on her, I'll call the nurse's station, and I've always been able to get through to somebody every time I've called. The food smells and looks good but I haven't tried any of it. On Wednesday nights, they do wine and music, then they have a church service every Sunday, and they had a whole calendar of activities. They do things like cards and a lot of different stuff."

"The main reason why I chose this facility is because they provide rehabilitation service and therapy 7 days a week. And I'm really impressed with their therapist. They are really nice and take good care of my mom. We were looking forward that she'll be out of the facility in 2 weeks time since she is improving every day. I'll definitely recommend this center for those people as well who are looking for rehabilitation service. "
