Assisted Living Communities in Chardon, OH

"My mom is a resident of Brookdale Mentor. One of the big draws was that they have zero Covid cases so far. They also had immediate availability of a 1-bedroom which is what she wanted and needed. Maybe all of them have this, but she has this thing that she wears around her neck, that gives her immediate, like if she just wants a snack, it's not even an emergency thing. And she actually had a medical guardian thing when she was at home, but this is just to talk to people. I didn't talk to any other places because I was so happy with them, and they are one mile from my home. And my brother lives a mile from me so very, very close to him. And my sister lives a couple miles from me. So it was crazy, crazy convenient for us. This is during Covid, I've seen pictures. She has big huge windows with her room, it seems very, very sunny. Very friendly. Good accommodations, her living room area is very big, and it's homey, I guess. And the staff, she knows them all by name. It's only been a few weeks, she calls them and they come running. And they call me when the nurse examined her and talked to her the first time, she called me and said am I getting a good portrait of her, and they call me and they talked to me, and they text me. They seemed accommodating, they seemed aware, this nurse that talked to her seem to have a really good grip on her. My mom even though she is 92, she doesn't take any medication. And, she's pretty on top of things, so she's pretty easy. They gave me my own personal video tour; they actually made a video just for me. And then, the minute she moved in, they took a picture of her in there sitting at her little table and everything. Like they sent it the day they moved her in. They're very friendly and accommodating. For activities, all I know about is bingo. My mom has lived alone for long time. She just likes having someone outside her door. She's joining along little bit, but not a ton yet. They check on her every 2 hours, and they check on her in the middle of the night to make sure she hasn't fallen. And she can get in and out of the shower alone. The first week they made sure of that, they were there every time. And she doesn't have any medications. She can walk, she's gotta walker, so, she really doesn't have a higher level of care. She doesn't have any physical therapy or anything. She's 92, so they keep a close eye on her. She loves the food and they told me they haven't done it yet, but if the residents have like a favorite recipe, they will make sure that they get it on the menu within 3 weeks. They're actually gonna take more pictures of her room, because she said, ''Well I told them that there were only 2 pictures, and you couldn't see it very well''. So they're gonna take more pictures for me, I can see her room better."

"I toured Danbury Mentor. Their version of independent living is that you have to take on the burden of all the meals there. They have things available, then you pay for this and you pay for that. So it's not what I call independent living. I mean, you can have a car. It's pretty good, it's just that I realized it's very competitive. It's kind of pricey for someone who is in relatively good health. I'm still driving. I can still get around. I can do my own shopping and so forth. So I don't wish to be in my situation confined to a facility where everything is done for me. The staff was very helpful."

"Maple Ridge Senior Living seemed wonderful. They were very friendly. It was beautiful. It's just not affordable. They were very attentive and brought in lunch, and it was really good. It was clean, and the structure wasn't falling apart. The atmosphere was very comforting. They were having some kind of party in the lounge. They had music outside. The size of the rooms was OK."

"We checked on them. The assisted living area there was smaller than the other facility. The rooms were very nice. They didn't have a shop or a deli there. Food-wise, they're about the same as with the other facility."

"We visited Brookdale Wickliffe. I thought it was a very nice facility. It would be a place that we would consider when we're going to make a move. The staff was great. They were very good, knowledgeable, and made us comfortable. They showed us both rooms and they're very nice. They had some activities going on in the memory care unit when we were there and I was pretty impressed with that."

"The aides and nurses are very attentive and sincere. My Mom has been at Hamlet for over 15 years. Questions are always answered quickly and professionally. The nursing team did a great job with Mom during her final days on Hospice Services at Hamlet. My wife and I could not be more appreciative of the care and constant over site that Tish and her team provided to my mom. We wish we could give Hamlet more stars than 5!"

"Vitalia Highland Heights is a brand-new facility. They just opened. I was very impressed with the independent living quarters that they offered. There were two spaces available. There are two bedrooms with a nice large living area and a kitchen that has everything. I know that if I wanted to, I could cook and bake there. There's a seating area in the kitchen. You don't have to have a dining room table, but it's big enough that you could have people sit down there on both sides. You could probably get maybe 4 or 5 people sitting in this area. They have beautiful two bathrooms that are bigger than what I'm living in right now. They have a washer and dryer, which is very important to me. The price is OK. I think they want $4005 or somewhere around there, maybe close to $5000 a month. They offer a lot of bus trips and typical things. They have a pool. They have everything. They have invited me twice now to come for lunch and their food is excellent. If you have a car, they have a covered parking area and that's $75 a month. That's high, and all it does is that there's a parking area where everybody parked right next to each other. You just have a roof over the outdoors. It's not an enclosed garage."

"I had an in-person tour of Cedar Living at Mayfield Heights. I liked the fact that they were small. They didn't have a whole lot of people there. They were able to answer all of my questions. I liked the fact that it was clean. They had a courtyard and a big indoor dining area. I think it's near a hospital, shopping, and restaurants."

"The Winfield at Richmond Heights is close to me. So, proximity was good. The campus has a nice grassy area. It's quiet and the building itself was easy to get around, but I think maybe for someone new moving in, it would take a little bit of getting used to. They had call buttons for safety purposes if something should happen (which was important for my aunt). They had a little kitchenette in their apartments. Some of them even have a den and a balcony, which my aunt liked. The amenities were nice. I saw both the independent and assisted living and we had a good discussion throughout the whole tour. Then afterward we sat down and just talked about my aunt and things that she was interested in. They wanted to get to know her a little bit more. The lady who gave the whole tour was very knowledgeable."

"Richmond Heights Place was new, it's clean, and it's a lovely area. The staff there was very accommodating, full of information, and very helpful. I spoke with the cook and they were very proud of their food service. They have social activities with the residents, but there is no swimming pool, gym, or any of those kinds of things. The dining was very nice and they had a courtyard. The grounds were beautiful. The cleanliness was excellent. There was fast food available close by, and there was a hospital probably 20 minutes."

"Villas at King David was an excellent facility. They had the dining room and a nice bedroom or studio apartment with a little kitchen area, but only a microwave because they provide the food. They had activities for them and transportation. It was a very, very wonderful location. The staff was great. It's a beautiful place. My brother did like the place. It's just that he said he did not need assisted living. He doesn't need help with medications or anything like that."

"I had lunch at Deer Creek Lodge and it was OK. The facility was very nice. The people and the staff were really friendly. The rooms were a very nice size compared to other rooms that I've seen. It was very clean."
