"I liked that The Terraces at Lawrence is close to me because I'm the one who would be visiting my sister there. We spoke to some people and they were very friendly, and helpful, and went out of their way to try to accommodate my interest and question. Linda gave me the tour and she was great. The rooms were fine and the dining area was attractive. I especially liked the chapel that was there. I didn't see many people, but it seemed pleasantly friendly. They have games and outings to go places and movies."

"My son and I went on a tour of Maplewood at Princeton over in Plainsboro. They have a 1-bedroom apartment available in assisted living, and I'm kind of pursuing that. It seemed like there was enough staff, and they looked like they were helpful. They were helping the residents that we saw there. One thing I liked about the dining area was that they had something that other assisted living facilities didn't have. In addition to the tables, they had an open kitchen and a counter that faced it. You can come in here any time and get anything that you want to eat. You don't necessarily have to sit with people, because sometimes you don't feel like doing that or having a conversation. You can just go and sit at the counter and get everything you want to eat at any time. I thought that was a good idea and something that I hadn't seen before. The rooms were a little bit bigger than the other places. It's a regular 1-bedroom apartment, not a studio, so it's still relatively small. I know they're not going to be big or anything, but it's still bigger than the rooms of other places that I'd seen. The facility looked clean and organized. Everything was in place, and nothing looked sloppy or out of place. Everything looked very neat and well-kept."

"I found that Spring Hills Somerset is a very good place. It was a very positive visit. I felt that the staff was very nice. In general, it was all very nice, and for me it was convenient. They do offer a lot of activities, but I know their memory care activities are limited. I just felt that they would give my husband the best care possible. The spokesperson that was there was very friendly and very helpful. The place is very cheerful looking. There's a lot of ground where people can walk and be safe. It's a nice looking, well-kept place. Of all the places that I've looked at, this facility would probably give my husband the best care. "

"We toured Sunrise of Basking Ridge. It's a possibility. It was very nice. They gave me a lot of information. I saw a one-bedroom; it was very big and good. The place looked nice. It was clean, and it was kept well. The dining area was clean, neat, and very nice. They have a library, a salon, and an activity room. However, there is no pool or gym."

"My uncle is already in assisted living here. We just like the atmosphere. The staff members are very attentive, and they'll call you for everything. The food is very good. They do activities with them, and they take them on trips. There's a washer and dryer, a microwave, and a refrigerator in the room. They have a courtyard, too."

"I liked Wesley Enhanced Living Doylestown. The facility was clean and organized. They're very competent. To get meals, you do not need to physically go outside. The staff members are knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. The facilities are easily accessible, clean, and well-maintained."

"I love my room which is a deluxe efficiency. I have four big windows which give me a lot of light. The food is very good with a few exceptions. You can also order something from an always available menu. The staff are very caring. They go above and beyond to keep us comfortable. The rooms are clean and comfortable and are cleaned weekly. Our laundry is done twice a week."

"My Mother in Law has been in the Brookdale Northampton Memory Care Unit for nine months and as in any large facility there are strengths and limitations. Overall we are pleased with this facility. I feel your loved one will be safe there. These are our observations and opinions: Strengths: Residents go to St. Mary's hospital for any necessary hospitalizations and that was our first hospital choice, It was the right distance for the family to visit. The price seemed reasonable and fair compared to other places, though as more support is required, the price can go up. The rooms are large and clean with a private bathroom that includes a private shower. Many memory care units do not have this. The overall feeling of the facility was homey; not too big. This was especially important in the memory care unit as mom often has no idea where she is. There are very nice personalized visual aids to make her room recognizable. Residents are free to walk about without too many limitations. There is a beautiful outdoor patio that is easily accessible. For the most part, the food is good. The staff are very, very good. I have watched them interact with many challenging residents over a long time period and they really watch out for the residents and for the majority of the time treat them in a kind and respectful manner. One thing that I love is the constant effort to provide activities that are stimulating to the residents and appropriate for their age and lifespan experiences. Yesterday I was sent a picture of my mother in law at the pumpkin farm with a zucchini necklace around her neck. She was smiling and it made me cry. I was so grateful that she had this experience. Arlene the manager is wonderful and available and responsive. Gerry has amazing energy for activities and I don't know how she does it. Oksanna and Janet are the two medical staff I have dealt with on the floor and they are wonderful, working through issues with our family even when we were not always in full agreement. Mom is clean all of the time but in the beginning we needed to work on the shower issue. There is a great hair dresser, Robin. The upstairs restaurant is nice and I can bring mom up if there is room, but sometimes there is not room. Weaker points: You need to carefully monitor the medical issues and communication can be difficult. The physician that is assigned to mom has only seen her personally one time and that was because we complained and were ready to bring her to the office. I recently asked the doctor's office for information that another physician had requested and did not get it after many repeated calls. The doctor is not directly connected with Brookdale but serves as an independent medical provider at Brookdale. Same with the podiatrist, who comes in but on a kind of random schedule. The physician assistant who works under the independent physician was seeing mom regularly but in the beginning we were not always aware of that so we had a meeting to increase communication. The nursing staff is approachable and helpful but the family needs to keep a close eye on mom's medical issues. The coordination of medical issues between multiple providers has been our biggest challenge. The home health care team is superb and they come into play after a hospitalization or a medical issue where therapies and closer monitoring are necessary. A few examples I can give were when mom had a fall but all medical personnel were not informed and when mom had a hospitalization for TIA and home health was unaware. "

"I like the step-up program at Holland Village, It's all in the same place. The staff members that I met during the tour were all very kind and caring. The room was just the right size for what I was looking for. There's a heated indoor swimming pool, which is a wonderful thing, and they have medical staff on duty. I would choose to live there."

"Mira Vie at Brookfield was terrific. The staff who gave the tour was terrific, too. She showed me everything she possibly could show me. They were having a live music presentation at the time, and I was looking at the group of people in there listening and watching. Most were bobbing their heads or keeping time with the music with their feet. They all seemed to be enjoying it. I got a look at the entire week's activity on the main bulletin board in the lobby, so you're able to see what's going to happen on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday, Thursday, and so forth, and so it was very well organized. I looked at the dining room and it was neat and clean, too. The staff showed me a one-person room. It had all the amenities that you could need for one person, including a step-in shower with grips. They show movies every so often, and the staff said that the movie room is always open if for some reason one of the residents can't sleep, and they want to just come down and put on a movie of their choosing, they can do that. I met the chaplain over there. He seemed very nice. After we were all done with everything, the staff took me to a conference room. We sat down and we probably talked for a good 45 minutes to an hour. She answered any questions that I had and filled in any gaps she might have left out. She gave me her card and told me she was going to stay in touch with me. I felt very, very comfortable over there. And the staff that we passed, whether they were in the hall or they were going somewhere, they all said hi, smiled, nodded, or whatever. They can arrange transportation for you. You can use their medical people or they'll take you to your own doctor of choice. It just seemed to have everything."
