The Best Assisted Living Communities in Somerset County, NJ

"We went to tour. I live in the area, so I’ve driven by it many times. I thought the place was immaculate; very clean. I thought it was a place that had elegance and sophistication. I did not get the feeling that it was a nursing home. I found it to be a very quiet place and that’s what I was looking for specifically for my father-in-law. The person who took us around -- her name was Melanie -- was very helpful. The apartments that we saw were lovely. I thought the rooms were spacious. They had very high ceilings. I saw the dining area. It seemed very nice. I did see the daily menu. It seemed fine. We saw the big calendar of activities, but that wasn’t really our main issue. My father-in-law is not a "joiner," so that’s not our concern. It certainly would have been the place I would have liked my father-in-law to go to if he decided to do this, but he decided not to. I thought the entire place had a really nice atmosphere; quiet and calm. I would recommend that others go and see it."

"Spring Hills Somerset is nearest to the area that I'm concerned with where all my friends are located. I needed a room that is somewhat larger than normal in a lot of the other places. It is convenient because I visit a great deal in the same area. It is mainly because it's in the same area so I can keep my old doctors and banks. I have a lot of friends in this area which is only ten miles away so I can still maintain and see them. I can go over next door to Spring Hills to play cards with the seniors as I had for years. It is like a municipal complex right next door. So I'm very familiar with the area. My children thought because of my age that I should go to a place like that. "

"We were very pleased with Sunrise at Basking Ridge. The staff was very pleasant, and they have a dog and a cat on staff. It is just very homey, and they have a dining room when you first walk in that is set up like a café. Then they have the main dining room where they can go and sit at, the main sitting rooms, and the game rooms -- it is set up like an old Victorian home. They've got a porch with rockers, and they have the different options for rooming for my mom. She probably would have a microwave or a kitchenette, but they have those options. She can have a roommate or not have a roommate, or have a suite and have two bedrooms in it. It was a very nice setting and a nice facility in a very nice area. I really do like it, and we will probably be utilizing this facility. It was also very clean. "

"Brookdale Hillsborough was very lively. There were lots of activities. It was clean. The woman was awesome that showed us around. We met with the residents as they passed through and stuff. Everybody was very nice and outgoing. They were very thorough about the COVID protocols."

"I can't say enough positive things about Maria. She is great with the memory care residents and fantastic with coming up with creative activities and events for residents to socialize, engage and be active. Most importantly, you can tell that she genuinely cares. I have seen first-hand how she patiently and kindly helped my mom adjust to moving into memory care at Mira Vie 6-months ago after living in her own home for 50 years. My mother was set against participating in any group activities or socializing with other residents. Now, she's always excited to tell me about the fun games, trivia, bingo, arts & crafts, etc. that Maria has planned. While it was understandably a difficult adjustment for my mother, she is more social and engaged than she has been in years and has friends. Maria has helped to make my mom feel more comfortable and safe. I love receiving the pictures and updates of my mom in her activities and appreciate her communication!"

"The rooms at Heritage of Clara Barton were too small for me. They had assisted living and independent living. The entrance looked brand new, but the apartment looked like it needed some updating. The staff were friendly. The facility looked pretty clean."

"I have been a resident of Juniper Villlage Chatham for four years and I love my life here. Our residence is attractively decorated, surrounded by landscaped lawn and gardens which we enjoy in good weather. I give our management, staff and workers credit for Juniper Village's excellence. We have an outstanding activities program from which to choose: daily exercises, discussion groups, music programs, a book club, movies in our theatre, a knitting group, indoor sports such as bocce, word games, bingo, bridge. We go in our van to local programs such as plays, movies, music and to the Jersey shore in summer. We have a talented chef and our healthful meals change seasonally and include fresh fruit and vegetables daily. Our driver takes us to medical and dental appointments in the area, for local shopping and to Sunday religious services. What's not to love about living at Juniper Village! "

"When I went here, I saw staff interacting with the residents, which I liked. I kind of felt like I had to see something like that to see how they treated the residents. They were all very friendly. The residents even said hello to me. It was a nice community. I'm leaning more towards that one only because mom has about two years to pay out of pocket, and if she's a little short, they'll work with me. That's the conversation I had with the people. I want to make sure that they would have a room for my mom when she switches over to Medicaid. They also have people in-house that I could deal with for that transition when that happens. The woman was very nice. Every question I asked her, she had an answer. When you go visit, on your way out, they give you a little box and it's something from their bakery that the chef made and this happened to be a blueberry muffin and it was delicious. I didn't save it for anyone. I ate the whole thing myself. The facility was very clean, very new, and very updated. They had beautiful flooring down. They have a hair salon, and they have certain doctors come in like podiatrists and things like that for the residents. They have their cable TV, and they try to keep them out of their rooms and involved in all kinds of little activities there, bingo, baking, stuff like that."

"The Sunrise in Westfield is fantastic, beautiful, and gorgeous, but you have to have a lot of money to reside there. Everything is fantastic, including the staff. If I have the money, that’s where my mother would be. I met the director of sales, and her help was astronomical. "

"I liked Spring Hills Princeton. The woman I met there was nice. She was wonderful. It seemed like a nice place. I liked the price. It's cheaper than others. The rooms were nice, too. I think they were a good size. They generally have games and outings just like the others. I thought the atmosphere was very pleasant."

"All the people who lived at Sunrise seemed very happy. The director knew every single person's name. He loved his job. The residents all loved him too. They had happy hour every day. The place was not as clean but the staff really won me over. At the time of my visit, they were painting and doing some repairs. "

"I visited the information center after hearing about this lovely place from a friend. This is exactly what I had been looking for, but more beautiful than I could have imagined. The apartments are spacious and the amenities and grounds are gorgeous. The staff is wonderful and so helpful. "

"I toured Maplewood at Princeton. It was nice, very bright, and clean. There were a lot of activities for the residents. It was like a luxurious hotel. It was beautiful. It's a nice place to be if you pick an assisted living facility. The person who took me around was very good."
