Nursing Home Communities in Hillsborough, NJ

"For anyone who needs to find QUALITY care for their loved one in the West Essex / northern NJ area, please - for the sake of your loved one AND you - just go straight to Green Hill. My father was neglected and almost died in another area facility. He was transferred to Green Hill and is doing so much better. They know how to deal with dementia patients - with dignity, respect and true medical care, even during this year of pandemic. The staff is considerate and friendly, the food is good, and their standards during the pandemic are at par with hospital level - and I know, because my husband works at a hospital. The facility looks like, and we learned, was a former hotel/respite site during the 1940s. The inside is spacious, and with social distancing, that's a GOOD thing. My father is limited in his activity level due to his dementia, but our visits have been SO encouraging. We almost lost my father, so believe me when I tell you, this facility was divine intervention."

"I was very satisfied with the care at Park Crescent nursing and rehab in East Orange, NJ. Social services was also very responsible and kept my daughter in the loop constantly. This helped me find comfort and peace of mind knowing that my daughter understood and stayed on top of my care plan."

"We liked Bridgeway Care and Rehab Center at Hillsborough very much. It was one of the newer and cleaner places. It had large windows and a high ceiling in the lobby, and it just felt very airy. The rooms were much larger than the place that my sister is in now. The bedrooms were shared and the bathroom was only shared by those 2 people. The bathroom was huge and it got a huge walk-in shower and they provided the shower chairs and the commodes to go over the toilet so that they have arms and they can stand easily. The showers have all kinds of rails in them for safety. The furniture was new and it looked very comfortable. They provided flat-screen TVs for all the residents. I've visited at times when most of the residents were in activities. So, I've seen them playing bingo and Family Feud. The schedule for the activities was extensive and they all looked so happy. They explained to us that they have a printed menu and the residents will have a choice, and it's also online. So, I can just go online and read the menu to her so she can have a choice. Their rehab facility was pretty large and it had a lot of machines."

"I had one woman whom I talked with at The Avalon at Hillsborough who was very informative. She sat down with me and talked over finances. I think it all went pretty smoothly. The place was laid out pretty nicely with a dining room set up like a nice restaurant. They seemed to have a lot of activities, a theater room, a pool table outside, and a little stand for popcorn or candies. "

"My ex-husband is in Foothill Acres Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. When he was in the hospital, he ended up having to go to rehab, and he has not been able to come out since. It's not a large home where you get lost, and there's always a staff there. They pay more attention to you at this home than they do at other homes. They're always in and out of the room. The place is clean compared to other places I've seen. If you have any issues, you can always bring it to them and they will address it. The staff is very friendly and willing to help. There's plenty of activities. There is bingo, there is poker, they have charades, and they even made ornaments. He participated in baking pies. There was a light outside that was blinking, and it was one of the overhead lights, and they marked it off when they saw it. Within two days it was repaired. I never have the call to go see him. I just show up, and there he is. I was able to just walk in and sign in, and if you have any issues, you talk to someone there. There's always someone and they're very willing. They hand out their cards and they say, "If you have any issues or you want to talk to us about anything, give us a call." They're very helpful with getting you set up with Medicaid. They tell you who you need talk to and they get you set up."

"My aunt is at Rehab at River's Edge. They seemed to be OK with her, she's happy, and has no complaints with being there. We really have to have a lot of contact because we are not allowed to go there. The rehabilitation people have called a lot of times to let us know what her status is, and that kind of stuff, so there's no problems. She likes the food, she's happy with the food, and she has no complaints about anything. From what I've seen I've only been in the main lobby part of it, and it's in very good condition I have never been into the rooms. They don't allow the visits."

"I plan on telling everyone about Rehab at River’s Edge. I am amazed how they got dad back to his old self. I hope he doesn’t need them again, but if he does I know he will be in good hands. This is a top notch place. "

"If you are thinking of putting a loved one in the New Jersey Eastern Star Home in Bridgewater NJ, you may want to hear about my terrible experience. My father was transferred to that facility from the hospital. The facility was given time to look over his records and after that, accepted the transfer. When we arrived in his room, it was obvious that the room had not been cleaned. The toilet was filthy, there were no toiletries, the pillowcase was soiled, and the phone was also dirty. I showed it to the staff member in the room and there was very little reaction. This leads me to believe it is not unusual. That should have been a clue that this facility was not going to work out. The following day we receive a call that he was being discharged. They said he would not be eligible for services because he would not make any progress with rehab. They determined that in less than 12 hours. We wanted to know why they would not even give him a chance to improve and was given no reason. We asked to speak to someone clinical to ask why, but no one would speak with us. I left multiple messages for the rehab director to call me back, but she did not. I email her and the Administrator and neither called me, even though I said it was urgent. To this day, they still have not returned my calls or emails. Now we were faced with no time to investigate another facility. We should have been given three days noticed before they discharged him, but we were not. We had to scramble to find a facility that would take him. Based on this experience, I would not recommend that you put a loved one in this facility. If an urgent matter should arise, you cannot be sure that your issue will be addressed. This facility does not take urgent matters seriously."

"My grandmother was at Bridgeway in their long term care wing. The people were just absolutely wonderful to my Nana and our family. Everyone in the place was so nice and helpful. Nana was at two other places in the area until we settled her in at Bridgeway. Family owned and the best!"

"My dad is living at CareOne at Somerset Valley. We liked that it's close to where we live, and it's clean. They take care of him there, and the nurses are great, informative, take time to talk to you and tell you what they know, and the doctors are good. It's a good place. My dad gets therapy, and three meals and a snack. They offer the medical care that my dad needs, and they watch him."

"My aunt right now is in a place called McCarrick and this place is really nice. It didn't smell when I visited her. The people are nice. From what I gathered there, they had activities and things for people to do. "

"I was a patient at Green Knoll. I want to thank, congratulate, and to give a special recognition to those staff members that went above and beyond the call of duty pertaining to my care. The physical therapy team was incredible. My personal trainer took me under her wing and brought me from bedridden state to a walking/functioning human being. She made sure that I would be able to function on my own when I was released. I was tended by many nurses, and they were all extra special in my care. Everyone here is truly amazing."
