"My sister has moved into Vibrant Life, The Lodge of Durand. It was by far the best, as far as staff, pricing, and what they had to offer. The other ones were much higher in price, didn't seem to have the room size, and weren't as up-to-date as Vibrant was. I have no complaints with the staff or the food. The food is fine. The activities appear to have helped her; they're excellent."

"Bickford of Saginaw was very nice. I think the care, from my perspective, looked to be fine, and certainly the staff was very welcoming. They had a service to transport the residents to their doctor's appointments and other shopping, etc., in the area. They also had various activity areas, such as a dedicated puzzle room, and several other ones. They had folks that came in regularly to entertain or stimulate the various residents. They had a very nice reception area and a very nice fireplace area that someone could go to. It's a very nice place."

"My father is in a private room at Courtyard Manor of Swartz Creek. He's legally blind, and they're giving him everything that he needs. They're wonderful, caring, loving people, and they do things immediately upon request, so that nothing is forgotten or undone. They do a lot, and he participates when he can. They do a good job. They decorated for the holidays and made the place look nice, and it always smells good when you walk into the building. Their price is pretty comparable to everyone else in the area, but it's an awful lot of money for a single room and it's not even a studio. It's a bedroom and a bathroom, and to me that's a lot of money even for the amount of care they're getting. They have a maintenance man on-site, and they take pretty good care of everything."

The rooms were nice and big. It looked well maintained. The dining area was nice, big and roomy, and clean. They had a nice area outside for the residents."

"The one I choose for my mother is The Pines of Burton Memory Care South. It is a new building. It is very nice. It is in a small town, so the caregivers are very caring and attentive. Sometimes, they may need more people that what they have, but that's just because it is memory care; some nights and days are busy, and some are not. They are not a nursing home, but they do have meds. They are very caring. They have three meals a day. They have two nice living rooms. Sometimes they only have two people there, but that's usually at night. They have an activities director that comes in twice a day. They do exercise with the beach balls, and they do different kinds of exercises. They do bible stories, crafts, and games. They have an in-house barber shop/hair salon, and the lady comes in once a week and does people's hair at an extra cost. They have a theater. It is a small room, but you can have your family in there to watch movies and eat popcorn. "

"Auburn Heights Senior Care was wonderful. I liked it. It's a smaller group of people, and they all eat together. It's very clean. The rooms were beautiful, freshly painted, updated, and had furniture and pictures. They had TV setup. There's a girl that has a program of activities for them to do on a daily basis, and they go on outings. The staff was very nice. The lady running the place was very helpful. I was very pleased."

"We visited Vassar Fields, and it seemed very good. There were people my parents knew who were living there so they were considering it at that time. They had arts and crafts and bingo. They had a room where people could come in, have popcorn, and watch movies and shows. They also have entertainment coming in from the outside. We visited the assisted living part, and I noticed that the independent living places seemed to be larger compared to the assisted living ones. They also didn't have a full kitchen. It was more of a room with a bathroom like a hotel suite, which is nice, but it didn't have kitchen facilities. The facility is also older."

"Of all of the assisted living centers that I have visited, Union Court is by far the best. The friendly environment of the center is what contributes to this the most. The staff members are kind and hard-working which is a great comfort to both the residents and their family members. Transitioning into an assisted living center can be a difficult process but the faculty and environment at Union Court made this process so much easier for my family. The rooms are really nice which is good because it made it a little easier for my grandparents to feel at home in such a new place. Also, the rooms and bathrooms are kept very clean and welcoming as is the rest of the facility. In addition, the meals are very good and the facility provides a lot of fresh fruit; however, the food could still be a little healthier. The meals that were served when I visited were all very high in sugar which was worrisome to me because many patients, including my grandmother, have diabetes. "

"Haven Country AFC is a well maintained facility. The staff there is kind and caring, seems well trained to handle the duties they are assigned as well as take good care of the residents living there. The residents get balanced meals and snacks throughout the day. They all seem to enjoy living there. There is a variety of care provided as this is also a home for the mentally disabled. Unfortunately, some of the residents complain from time to time of getting bored, and some of them rarely if ever can leave the home due to their disabilities that limits them. Most of the residents go on regular outings though, and truly enjoy it when they do. The home is located in the country so the residents get to enjoy watching various wildlife come into the yard. Some of the residents get to walk about a mile down the road, and love to take walks. Overall this home is one of the better homes I know of. "

"Meadows of Owosso is quite a new community and very well-staffed. There are four wings, one of which is a locked down memory care. It has a very wide, open meeting space in the middle with a fireplace and couches. They have a lovely dining room where the tables are set with linen table cloths and napkins, and a menu for all three meals. If there's something that the resident doesn't care for, there are substitutions that they are happy to make. The director all the way to the people clean the rooms to the ones who dispense meds to the chef in kitchen, knows everyone and always call my dad by name. They also know my name and my brother's name. They make a real effort to make it very personal and extremely friendly. They have two nurses who are always there, so they have someone available at all times if something happens. All the rooms are private but have different sizes. My dad is in a medium-sized, carpeted room with a bedroom, closet, and large bathroom with a walk-in shower so there's nothing for them to trip over. There's a little kitchenette with a refrigerator and a sink. They can bring their own furnishings, or you can go into a room that's already furnished for you for a price. They assist him with bathing, changing his Depends, administering all the meds he needs, and checking on him just saying hi, how's he doing and would ask if they can get him a snack. He wears a medical alert so if something happens he can press the buzzer. All of the medical staff members have a phone with them, so that if someone rings the buzzer, whoever is closest to that resident's room can go to the room. They're very cautious."

"The Roosevelt House was beautiful. It's perfect. The staff was wonderful, upbeat, and very informative. We loved everything about it. It's just we're not gonna be able to afford it. They had private rooms with private baths. They had outdoor activities. I saw a beauty parlor, a chapel, a study where they could go in and do puzzles and quiet things, a TV room, and an aviary. Outside, they had a garden and animals like deer, roosters, and chickens. It's brand new, and it's impeccably clean."

"Welcome Home Assisted Living is a warm cozy place. The new buildings are absolutely beautiful. All the rooms are private rooms with a bathroom. My grandpa loves it there. Anytime I come to visit the staff is interacting with the residents that live there. My grandpa loves to dance and play musical instruments and they do all that with him. He loves old music and they are always playing music for him to listen to. I never have to worry about the care at Welcome Home he gets above and beyond care. I cant say enough good about Welcome Home along with the owners. They are wonderful people and make sure the residents are well taken care of. The staff there are wonderful! I cant say enough good about the staff they take such great care of my grandpa! This is where you want to place your loved one. There is nothing else around like Welcome Home. "

"My mother will be moving into Angel Manor LLC. We had a lot of referrals from people that we know who had parents in there. We went and toured it, and it was very homey. It was a smaller residential place. I think their maximum was 12 residents. It just seemed to have what she needed, as far as care goes. Somebody's there all the time to help with bathing, and they provide meals. She can't cook her own meals. The residents were her age, so she would have some more company. I like the location as well because it is halfway between my house and my sister's house. It is perfect. The staff was excellent. She gave us all the information and answered all of our questions. We had her personal cellphone number. We had some questions we thought of later and called her to ask her a few things. She is always available. She said they do care for patients through end of life as well. They have somebody who comes in and does hair and nails. They have bingo once a week. They have arts and crafts. They have music night, where people come in from outside, perform for them, and stuff like that. We were happy with it right from the get go."

"My uncle is going to move into Majestic Care of Flushing. The residents all looked happy. The place was beautiful. They got a lot of activities. They got like everyday activities and a big board going on of what goes on for all the activities for different people because they're all in different states. It is going to be nice. Each room has its own bedroom. The rooms are nice and big. They're not crowded, they're not packed in, and they're not all dark. They're nice. Each got the TV, the Wi-Fi, and the cable. They pay for their personal needs. It's close to me and it's only like 5 miles up the road. From what I've seen, their staff is good. There's enough of them. They're not spread too thin, and they all do their business. The maintenance looked all good to me. They got a nice salon in there, so that's good."

"I was always impressed by the way my Great Grandfather was treated in his Assisted Living Home. The staff was always friendly and attentive. My Great Grandfather regularly took walks, and became involved in events taking place in the center. For quite some time, he chose to make his own breakfast and lunch, and just go to the dining hall for dinner. This was a great transition for the stubborn, independent man we loved. As he got older and needed more assistance, the staff was more than happy to accommodate. I believe this was a very positive place for my Great Grandpa to live. "

"Pine Haven Assisted Living went over to the rehab place where my aunt was at and they met her the night before she moved in there. They helped us get her in and out of the car when we got there. They They were very friendly with her. They got her to do some other stuff that the rehab place was not doing with her. So we didn't think she could do it on her own and she was actually doing a lot more than what she thought she could do once with their help. It is a small home with 15 people in it. They have a couple of days where they do crafts, they have a beautician that comes in once a week, and all their meals are homemade, nothing frozen. There's two to three people on staff during the day and they check in on them every two hours. They've got monitors all through the house so they can hear what's going on at the other end. They can also come and go with their family if they want to. They have a small spot that heads out to the big porch that they can go out on. It has a dining table down there so you can just sit, or if the family comes in, they could eat down there with you. They have a big bookcase full of books, sort of like a little library area, as well as wild animals outside, such as alpacas and chickens that people can watch and see out their windows."

"The atmosphere in this home is relaxed and upbeat. The halls are wide and airy and even though the building had a former life as a high school the rooms and community areas are home like. There is a central courtyard where residents can sit and watch the birds or just visit, and since it is completely enclosed by a ring of buildings, it is safe. There is a covered deck area to sit, too, so that even on rainy days you can still enjoy the out of doors. Outings are planned, for those who care to go, and there are activities, church services and something happening every day. The resident's rooms are good sized and you can bring some furniture from home. One resident told me that no place is without problems but here, when a problem comes up something is done about it quickly. The thing I like best about Saginaw Geriatrics is the calm, caring attitude of the staff; they are unhurried and professional. "
