Assisted Living Communities in La Porte, IN

"My sister will be moving into the Brentwood at Niles. Everyone was very pleasant and very cordial. The facilities were nice and clean, and it looked like a friendly place to be. It's a small community, and everybody seemed to get along with everyone else. The rooms were nice and clean. They clean the apartments once a week, and they will replace the carpets befpre she moves in. We enjoyed the food, and it was a little more than what my sister could eat. Everyday they've got something going on, and once a week, they take them out for walking, they go on outings, and they have family gatherings. They have a salon, exercise area, library, and two outdoor patios. I would highly recommend it."

"My father is currently a resident of Tanglewood Trace. So far, it's been great here. I've noticed that the front-desk staff know most of the patients by their first names. They call most of the people who are living here by their first names. I have heard that the food is really good here. He's even been really happy with the nursing staff who come in and give him his meds. So, all around it's a good place. They already have his pictures up, and it looks like home. They have chairs and couches in the hallways where you can sit. If you feel like you need to get out of your apartment, you can go and sit out in the lobby. They do all kinds of fun activities. It's quite a nice place. They'll take a trip; they take a bus and go into town. They do bingo, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. They do card making, and they have a walking club. They'll have ice-cream sundaes, take a trip to Martin's, or take a trip to the Dollar Tree."

"I recently helped a elderly lady locate a new place to live at Oak Woods Manor...her name is Ann, she is 77 and she told me that she is so happy in her new apartment, the food is good and the staff is very kind, understanding and helpful. She said she would recommend Oak woods to anyone. "

"We have visited Silver Birch of Michigan City. It was very clean, there were a lot of activities for the people there, and it seemed like they had a very good meal plan. The rooms are very spacious. We only spoke with one staff member, we didn't interact with very many. They have bingo, they also have a puzzle room, billiards, and they have some ladies there who put together a weekly fun night for the girls."

"The staff at Trail Creek Place was very knowledgeable. She had additional ideas for me, too. She was very good. It's one level and it's set up in a square. You can just walk around the whole area and it's very easy. You wouldn't get lost walking around the place or moving from place to place. They had exercise equipment, and the barber shop was there. The barber/hairdresser has recently retired, so they were looking for a new one. The garden was very nice. It was inside the square and there's a lot of outdoor seats. You could easily go out onto the patio, and it had tables and chairs set out there, and that's where we were conversing."

"I've been living in Hamilton Grove's assisted living for 2 years now. I like the cleanliness and the staff. They also have independent and nursing care. In another part of the community, it has independent living, physical, and occupational therapies. Meals and housekeeping are included here. They also have activities like bingo, trivia, and things like that. There are a variety of activities. Of course, during the pandemic, they had to stop many of them. Now they are starting the activities again. They have church services and counseling if you want it. There is something to do almost every day. They just don't have enough staff and need more."

"Symphony Chesterton did not smell. Everything's nicely furnished. It's an uplifting place. The staff was very nice and kind of just went above and beyond. I had four small children and they went with me to visit my dad every day when he was there. So, we got to know the staff and they just treated us nicely. They were nice to my kids, too. They gave them tours of different areas of the establishment, including the kitchen. They showed them how they prepare the food. They had a movie theater room that we went in and visited often. The menu looked good. There are a lot of different options and different choices each day. They played poker, they had paintings, and people came to do music or dance. For St Patrick's Day, they had a lady dressed as a leprechaun and visiting all the rooms, giving out candies."

"Avalon Springs Health Campus did wonderful care for my husband while he was still alive. I chose that facility because it was easy for me to get to and they have a wonderful reputation. "

"The Pine village atmosphere was very nice. You can choose apartments whether with a balcony or a patio. The apartments come with a furnished kitchenette and you can cook your own dinner there. The rooms were clean, bright, well-designed and well-furnished. They have a service that would take you to town everyday. The staff was friendly and sociable. The facilities were worthwhile that you can do what you want to do without supervision. They have activities and entertainment set up that you would not end up sitting at home or anything like that. Safety measures are also in place for your protection. I plan to move there after I sort out things because of my operation. "

"Green Oaks of Valparaiso was spotless, and the people there were friendly. I liked the staff I talked to. They were very nice. I talked to a few people, and then we ate there. They gave us lunch, and it was good. Really, really good. So I would rate this community very highly. The staff who gave the tour was really nice and very informative. The rooms are beautiful. There are mostly one-bedroom apartments and studios. They have no two-bedroom. It's a fairly new place. It's only a couple of years old. The facility is really nice."

"It is perfect for my mother-in-law because it is not assisted living. She is in her own villa with a bedroom and two baths. She is still very independent. It seems like a great place, and it is close to my wife and I. The people working there are fantastic. We have nothing but good experiences since she has been there. The villas are fantastic. It is a two-bedroom duplex. They have tons of activities. They play cards. They have trips. They have socials, happy hours, and everything."

"The facility itself is very nice and attached to a family home which the owners live in. The owners are courteous, friendly, and seem very competent. The residents were well cared for, and had a fairly strict daily routine. The atmosphere was very "homey", with relatives visiting often, including relatives of the owners. The owner's children are also involved in the family business, and together they seem to have created a unique environment for elderly care. There aren't a lot of amenities here, and I guess that keeps it from a perfect 5-star rating. Then again, the activity level of most of the residents seems pretty sedentary - these are elderly individuals with little independence or desire for interaction. "

"Have a lot to offer. Nursing staff and Personal Care team were nice and knowledgeable. Chef was great and food tasted wonderful. Several Apartment types to chose from- even have nice patios. Activities seemed fun too; I love the old fashion ice cream Shoppe and the chapel. "

"I found the staff at Sterling House (Brookdale Place Portage) to be pleasant, well informed, and courteous. The facility was clean and it smelled good. Carpeting was clean. Their dining room was with white tablecloths. They have a wait staff to bring the meal to you. You select an entrée with a choice of two or three selections. I saw the menu, and it looked well done. They have a fitness room with exercise equipment. They have tours and groups that meet for various levels of ability. "
