I had a fabulous tour at Beatitudes Campus. They offer exactly what we're looking for in terms of a continuing care community. We would be going in as independent housing people, but then they also offer memory care and assisted living and it also offers 90 days of free care (like if you leave a hospital and then enter into their community). They're an old, established continuing care. I think they've been doing this since the 1950s, so they've got all the problems ironed out. The staff during the tour was fabulous. They have four restaurants onsite. The food was great. They have a gardening area. They have lifelong learning talks for people who are interested in whatever particular subject. They have a swimming pool and exercise rooms. There's a great variety of offerings there.

The Beatitudes Campus community was great. I was able to tour it in person. The staff was amazing. They were all very helpful. The facilities were nice, not extravagant. They offer quite a few activities for people, but my brother doesn't do those because he's very active. They have a wood shop, but there's nothing they do with mechanical things or cars for the guys, which was what my brother would have liked. The restaurants looked great, they had their own little bar, they had a coffee shop and a nice restaurant. It's a very nice facility and very welcoming, the people were awesome. The 1-bedroom apartment was very nice, they had balconies, a little kitchen, and the bathroom was all redone. Before every client moves in, it's refurbished and the carpet is replaced with flooring. The only thing I can say is that some of the buildings were older. There was no air conditioning in the hallways because it's a 1960s building. They were also building newer buildings, but they might want to look about upgrading the 1960s buildings too. If they could have upgraded interiors and air-conditioned hallways, that would be better. The grounds were kept beautifully, everything seemed clean and the pool looked great. It looked well maintained and taken care of. They're awesome. They were so forgiving when my brother decided not to make the final appointment after filling out his paperwork. They were polite and accepting. The campus is the real green area but once you're outside, it's more urban. They had a secure gate to protect independent living residents' vehicles and things.

I've put the deposit down at the Beatitudes Campus so I'm on their waitlist. I've visited twice and I told them I would go again this week. I was shown their independent living during my tour and it was good. The lady named Christy sat down with me trying to understand what my finances were, what I could afford, where I wanted to live, and what my goals were. Then we did a tour of pretty much the entire facility. We went to where they had restaurants, we went to the library, we saw where their pool was, their laundry room, and went upstairs and saw a couple of different apartments I could take. We came down again and she did a whole excel presentation of how much money I had, what it was going to cost, and what I needed to come up with. I was there for maybe 2 hours on the first day I visited. The second time I went, it was maybe an hour. We went over more of the guidelines and looked at the contract and things like that. I saw two places. I saw their studio room which was a big room. The kitchen was part of the room and the bathroom was a little bit off to the side. It also had an outside balcony. I haven't lived in an apartment in 40 years, so I can't give what they're supposed to look like today but when I saw the 1-bedroom, it was much better for me because the bedroom was sort of separate. She tried to convince me of both places like if I wanted the studio, she told me how you could do the bedding in there. The 1-bedroom for me was much better because everything was off to the side and it had a bathroom off to the bedroom side rather than right out the kitchen side. For me, it was a little more expensive but wasn't much, maybe $150. If it was just going to be the studio, I wouldn't have taken it. One thing that the campus is, and they told me this so I've known it, is that it's an older campus. I think the campus was built probably in the late 40s or early 50s so it's older. It's not like a lot of newer ones that are being built right now in Phoenix. In terms of what I could afford compared to what some of the newer places are charging, this one's better. The only staff I met was Christy and she was good. She sold the place to me. She has also called to keep me updated and she called to get me over there so I have no problems with her. I didn't try the food but I know the menus and everything else. I didn't have to try because I'm independent, I'm only 62 years old. I know they have the restaurants and I know they're going to give a $225 food credit each month but to me, I'm going to be doing most of my own cooking and things like that anyway.

What I liked about Beatitudes Campus is the people that did the tour. As we walked around, they were greeting the residents by their first names. So, that was a personal touch, which was pretty amazing. They weren't just numbers to them and that was the caring side of it. The other thing I liked about them is they responded quickly to me (within an hour from my tour), whereas some of the other care centers would wait a few days or next week to reply. Jonathan toured me on the independent living side, while a lady did the assisted living. They were both very helpful. They knew their stuff. They were able to walk us through all the different options and took us on a tour of the different apartment styles. One of the residents had a problem, and she immediately took it down to the front desk to get the maintenance and get it fixed. It was pretty cool. The rooms and the carpets were clean. They had an emergency button in the bathroom in case there was a problem. It's a nice campus. It's been retrofitted and it looks very well done for the care of the elderly. It is also a nonprofit organization, so everything there is tax-free. You get three meals a day, plus two snacks, depending on what time of day. They offer different menu choices so if you don't like the menu choice, you could ask for a different menu. They change it every single day. They have daily activities, too. So, if you don't want to stay in your room, they have plenty of activities to keep you engaged.

I visited Beatitudes Campus, and it was a very nice place. I was interested in it. It would have been my second choice. It looked very clean as far as I know. My granddaughter went with me, and she thought it was good. I don't think they offered as many meals, and it would have been in a studio apartment for about the same money. The staff was very nice, very pleasant people, and very informative. I was very impressed with them. I would have probably gone there. I did try the food. They took me to lunch there, the lady who was giving me the tour, and it was very good. They had two or three, or more little cafes available on the site; it was very nice, you just go in and order. We went to a place that was a little more casual, you put your order in at the front, then you sat down, and they brought it to you. They had different levels. They had a steak house or something there too for a nicer dinner. They had a lot of options. It was fine, but it wasn't anything; I just had a burger, and it was good. Some of the older buildings from the outside didn't look as good, but inside, they were just excellent. It was very pretty and nice, and everything like that. I think some of their exteriors is dated.

Beatitudes Campus was very upgraded. All of the living spaces we saw were new. They had refurbished. The grounds had a lot of walkways and were very beautiful, lots of flowers, lots of foliage, things like that. The reason we did not choose that facility was the cost. It was more expensive and the campus itself was so big, that the activities were kind of spread out everywhere. We thought it would be hard for our mom to first find her way around and second, to get to the various activities, because they were in different buildings and kind of all over the campus. It would've been too confusing for her. The staff was nice and professional, but we felt like she was just doing her job. The facilities were beautiful. The grounds and the areas outside were all well kept and clean.

The Beatitudes Campus has been there in that location for a very long time. It's big and it's arduous to get around. I like the fact that they don't charge taxes there. It's a tax-exempt facility. They're doing current renovations and the apartments are very, very nice, very well done, very accommodating, and attractive, and they have views. I would only select the top one because then you get a view. When you look out, if you're on the south side of the building, you get a view of the entire city, which is kind of nice. It's really pretty. The renovation they've done in the apartments is done very nicely and very well. I had a hard time making my mind up at the beginning, but it's just too hard to get around the campus. It's a lot of walking because it's so big. The apartments themselves are put together well, and they've stylized them so that they have made them more contemporary. They're carpeted, which in my brother's case, having a wheelchair, would be an issue. It's hard to use an electric wheelchair on the carpet, so that was not so good, but they were larger and very well appointed, the way they did the kitchens and the bathrooms and everything. They did a lovely job on their renovations, but they charge for that. They did not have the same amount of assisted living perks that were offered within the base price as the other place. The sales representative was a lovely woman. She's very gracious, very accommodating, attentive, and she did a great job. I hated to disappoint her, but the move-in fees were just way out there.

Beatitudes Campus was a spread out community. Jonathan and I talked for twenty good minutes before we toured and looked at several things. There was a brochure about their restaurants and he talked about some of their activities, like shopping, and taking you to your doctor's office. Being a person with disability, he even got me a wheelchair and took me all over the place, and showed me the only restaurant that was open at the time. I wasn't able to taste the food though, but they cook you something, or you can have a grab and go. As part of your rent you get $200 dollars per month towards your meals at the restaurant, and you can do it more than one time. Then he showed me what they call the "bus stop" where you catch the vehicle and go to different places. There's like several buildings and different levels of care. They even have nursing homes, so if your level of care changes after a certain point, you don't have to move out. He showed me two different floor plans and they all have your TV hooked up ready and your internet. They also have onsite maintenance that can even help you change a light bulb. The first room we looked at had a deli-style kitchen with apartment-sized oven and refrigerator. It was like 550 square feet, but the bedroom was able to fit a queen-sized bed, and it had a patio that spanned the living area and the bedroom, and a screen door to go out to the patio, or if you just want to get some fresh air in. The living room was a nice size, the bathroom has a low step shower, and you can bring your own shower care. Each floor had a laundry room and he showed me where you sign up at a certain time to use them. The second floor plan looked very similar, except the price was a little higher. It was an open plan, had regular-sized appliances, and a built-in microwave. The first unit had more closet spaces than the second one. If I were to move in to something like that, I would say I want the closet space of the first unit, and the openness of the second. Jonathan asked me for my choice and I said, " If I were to do it, I think I would probably go with the little more expensive open floor plan." We did not look however at the two-bedroom because my mom wasn't interested in it. They have a movie theater in which they only allow five people in at a time. They also have a lounge area on each floor, and all kinds of sitting areas near the elevators. One group was playing cards at the table. Each floor has its own mailbox too, so you can get your own mail.

We visited the Beatitudes Campus. Our overall experience with it was very good. Their living atmosphere was very good. The gentleman who talked to us knew the people. Apparently, he is familiar with most of the residents there. He's interested in what they're doing and how they're doing. That was really impressive to us. In fact, we had lunch there. The food was pretty good. I had a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich, and my husband had a hamburger.

Beatitudes Campus is great. They were recommended by a family friend and so far they've been wonderful to work with. My father is in an apartment, and my mother is in their Alzheimer's facility. My father has a nice, small one-bedroom apartment with a living area and a kitchenette. There are a lot of activities and options in the assisted living and Alzheimer's units. The food has been very good. It's expensive, but it's well worth it.

We loved Beatitudes Campus when my mother was in their independent side, but once she moved to assisted living, it all went downhill. The place was getting older and rundown. The staff in the assisted living was rude and of the six doctors' appointments they were supposed to take her to, they only took her to one. Their activities were fine, but I asked them to prompt her to go and they never did. The food was great, and the dining room was nice. The caregivers in the assisted living were always on their phone every time I was up there, but the cafeteria staff was nice. They need to start caring a little bit more. They don't do what you pay them to do.

I visited the Beatitudes Campus twice. They showed us around and offered an incredible array of things for people to do. You can teach little children how to read and write, teach English as a second language, or teach all kinds or crafts. I would fit in there very well. They had concerts constantly and people coming in and playing concerts in the facility. They had three dining rooms, and then a place that opens all day long with snacks. One of the dining rooms was very posh. You had to wear a dinner jacket to go there. I was disappointed in the rooms, but they were redoing and building more condos. There is a possibility that I could go there as the buy-in was much cheaper than the other place. They give you $100 for the meals a month, and the most expensive meal is $11. They have full kitchens, full bathrooms, two-bathrooms, and one place I looked at was very satisfactory. They were willing to repaint it and take the carpet out, which I hate. I would be very happy to go there, but it was far from my family. They offer transportation within a 10-mile radius for free, but if it's more than that you pay, and if you're going to a venue downtown, they will take you.

My mom lived independent living and then had an episode which required skilled nursing. When they gave us a dismissal date, they suddenly and without compassion moved the date closer by 4 days. They said she was "hitting her marks" and couldn't stay...which gave us even less time to find her another place to live. She had little nourishment and no energy, so how could she be "hitting her marks"? Beatitudes didn't care; they just wanted her out. They didn't listen to reality or examine her case from a patient's point of view. Absolutely no compassion (and the food is bad as well).

I am impressed with Beatitudes Campus because it has the medical facility right there on campus. If it comes time for me to move into a facility, I think the Beatitudes Campus would be my choice. I have had many friends that have been in there too over the years. I was impressed with the different ways you can go into this community. You can go in month-to-month, or you can go in buying into it, becoming a member, and planning a lifelong existence there. They have nursing facilities available. Price-wise, it is about the same as other places. They have a beautiful dining room. The salad bar was beautiful. I would enjoy that, I'm sure. They have a very nice church and they actually have several different services during the week. They are very well organized with their activities. It is set up for a larger group. There were a lot of things going on while I was there. All the way around, I was just very impressed with the place.

I didn’t like the laundry setup with Beatitudes Campus. I also didn’t like the way the hallways were set up. It seemed like a dormitory or a hotel, but the interior was OK. They had a lot of activities, speakers, get together, exercises, and religious affiliations. The food was excellent.

Beatitudes Campus was a big, old place with a lot of concrete, not green and pretty. The dining room was excellent. The activities were very good and included classes of various things, bridge, and exercises. They can take you to doctor and dentist appointments and to the grocery store once or twice a week. They also go on outings and to concerts. It's quite a lively place. They have a store where you can buy things and cooking classes that were very impressive. The apartments were nice. Some were being renovated and new ones were being built, too.

Beatitudes Campus was a lovely place, but it's very spread out, and it would just not be convenient for me. The food was wonderful, home-cooked, and delicious, and the people there are fantastic and very nice. It’s a big campus, so it's a big place. The rooms are very nice and certainly more than adequate for me. I looked at a 2-bedroom apartment which would be more than adequate for my needs for sure. It's not luxurious, but it's very nice and comfortable. The residents are so nice and they allowed me to go in to their place and look with a person from Beatitudes. They're very friendly, but I would have had to put down what I'd consider a lot of money upfront. I could just never have it explained to me exactly what the benefit to me would be, and then when you move, you get 20% of it back, but I just couldn't justify losing that much money, so that kind of turned me off. I wouldn't want to turn anybody off from it because it's a very friendly place.

I didn't appreciate the dining area at Beatitudes Campus because it was a little bit on the dreary side with its brown carpet. All they had that you can rent was a really small 1-bedroom 1-bath apartments. To get anything bigger, you can go to 2-bedroom, 2-baths but you have to buy in to the place and pay like $160,000 and THEN pay rent, so I didn't care for that. It was just too much like a nursing home, but the staff was accommodating.

We had our friend at Beatitudes in independent living for nine years. It gave her the opportunity to be independent and do things that she wanted to do. The environment was good. It was very nice.

Beatitudes was fantastic, from the people that I've been dealing with on the phone to the final reservations. I was with my granddaughter when I visited back in April. They have three different restaurants to choose from within the facility. They've got lots of activities. They had swimming pool, an exercise room and a theater for movies. It's a great place to live.
