My father is in assisted living at Shady Lane. It wasn't a choice. It was where the doctors wanted him to go. My father isn't in the greatest room right now. It's more like a storage closet, but he likes everybody there. He's happy with the people that are there. He likes the meals, too. It seems like a nice place. He likes it, and he says everybody is nice here. He doesn't engage in any of their activities, but they have a lot of activities for everybody. My dad has gone to the hair salon, and he's had a mani-pedi, which he's never had in his life, and he liked it. They do laundry, but he had issues where some things have not returned, so they had to put a search out for him. And now instead of transporting them every time they have doctor's appointments, they're having them all come to Shady Lane so they won't have to be transported every time. They will be doing the appointments right there, which I thought was pretty nice.

Shady Lane was nice. They have a new section that has all newer rooms. It was a nice layout. Everybody seemed nice. The only thing I didn't like was their pricing. The schedule was kind of confusing, if you needed extra help, you had to pay by the hour. It's kind of hard to determine how many hours he would need every week. The staff was nice and answered all our questions. They offer laundry service, but you have to pay by the pound. You get three meals a day. The new section was nice and cheerful. The only thing my brother didn't like was the bathroom. It's a European shower type where it's not a separate shower. It's part of the bathroom and kind of goes in a corner with a curtain around you. They have a doctor that comes into the facility.

My family member stayed at Shady Lanes memory care. We chose to personally go clean her room every three months as it, as well as the bathroom, were stained and unkempt. Staff was generally quite nice, except for the main people and admin… they were mostly less than courteous and not forthcoming if not outright untruthful. My family member enjoyed having new clothing and gifts appropriated to who knows where and never to be worn or seen again while she wore stained and mismatched items. She also enjoyed being isolated for multiple days for having a UTI… or was it dehydration… or was it a cold when her covid, flu & rsv tests were negative… depends on who you ask apparently. She also very much enjoyed leaving and never returning but she would have much more enjoyed never having to stay there. That would have been all of our favorite amenities. This review is worded the way it is in hopes that it doesn’t violate the review guidelines and helps another family before they find out themselves.

Shady Lane was more institutional, but they were very nice. The facilities were very clean and well-maintained. However, it took us twice to get in. The administration kind of blew us off the first time we went. The staff members, though, were very nice when we went the second time. They seemed very cooperative as to what they were doing and what they would do. They were very attentive and they had people engaged. Plus, they were willing to work with you. So, I'd give the workers a four rating, while I give their administration a one rating.

The care that Shady Lane provides to my cousin is very good. We didn't have any issues with them at all. I've worked with the administrator and he's the one that hooks up the TV and telephone that she had at home. We didn't have to pay additional for that. So, they've been wonderful to work with. If you call and leave a message, they're prompt in returning it. It's an older building but overall it's very nice. They have quite a bit of activities.

The tour at Shady Lane was very nice. The gentleman that gave us the tour was the director of the building; he was very pleasant. The thing was it's outdated and seems more rundown. The people and the staff there seem very nice and everything, but it's just the overall atmosphere that wasn't pleasing. It's an old facility, and it looks old. Even if they renovated it, they'd have to almost rebuild to make it a better looking place. It looked like it offered everything else that the other place I toured does, but the price was a little bit higher. The staff I had interacted seemed very nice. The location is fine, and the neighborhood seemed very safe. The rooms seem old and the sizes were nice. They actually offered a little bit more than the other place did. There's a stove in each of the rooms, which the other place didn't offer. If you're being fed your meals and everything, we didn't feel there was a need for a stove anyway.

My parents are in Laurel Grove right now. They have their own apartments, meals, and medications given to them also. It is a locked place, which we like. To me, that seems more safe for them. They have a nice room with a small living room, a dining room, and a kitchenette. They have a refrigerator and a stove there even though they have their meals. They can make a snack if they wanted to. It is pretty nice. They have cards or bingo and a couple of activities or entertainment occasionally. One time, they had a bus trip where they could go if they wanted to something in the community. I ate with them and I thought the food was pretty good. The place always seems very clean.

My friend lives in the assisted living. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and caring. The rooms are very nice- bright, clean, and private. There's always activities going on which is entertaining. Awesome job all around!

Shady Lane was wonderful -- top notch. It’s very clean. They have nurses, and they do enough for you.

I have an aunt living there and the rooms are quite small. One of the elevators has been out of service for a long time so you are asked not to use the one working elavator during breakfast, lunch and dinner times as they need it to bring the meals to patients. I had smelt a strong odor while visiting one time, but after reporting it, they seemed to of taken care of the problem which they said was due to some soiled linens. The building is quite old. The care given tho seems great.
