"The person who showed us around at Caring Hands Assisted Living was very informative and very pleasant. It's a very nice facility, very clean, with lots of activities for their people. It did not fit my husband's purpose because he needs more help than just assisted living, but I would recommend it. It seemed like a very pleasant and friendly place. Their rooms were very nice and spacious, everything was very clean and neat, bright, sunny, and pleasant conditions. I was able to see studios. They were playing bingo in the main common area with lots of people participating. They also have several other little rooms where people can go and watch TV."

"Kettle Moraine Gardens is a brand-new place. It's a nice facility. The rooms are a little bit bigger than the other two that we toured. The staff was outstanding, and it helped that she has family members that are also there. They have a good activity program that we looked into. It seems that they are a little bit more engaging than the other two places that we've toured. We looked at their activity schedule, and it seemed like they were playing cards and bingo. It was just overall welcoming and homey. The staff members were caring, asked a lot of good questions about my mom, and were generally concerned. They have gardens that you can work with later in the year. They have a spa, which my mom likes."

"My mother-in-law is now here, and we’re very happy with it. They're treating her very well, and she has gotten herself, included in all of the activities. They have done a pretty good job working with her and helping her, so we're happy with them. She has a beautiful room on the first floor with one bedroom, living room, bathroom, and a little kitchenette with a stove. She can walk right out on the front foyer and watch people come and go or she can handle the elevator and go up to see the activities on the second floor. It's been working out better than I had even hoped for. "

"My mother is in memory care at Magnolia Meadows. It was better than I was expecting it to be. It's very clean and a nice size. There aren't too many residents, but more than a handful. The director is very forward about everything. The apartment is an adequate size for a queen-size bed, a reclining chair, and some other items and it also has its own private half bathroom. The staff members are not overly friendly, but that might just be because we don't know them yet. They provide three meals a day, they provide her with transportation when she needs to go places, and they do her laundry. They have movies at night and cards and things like that once in a while. They have a personal chef who's there to make three meals a day and he's there five days a week, so he provides the meals right away right there homemade. He makes extra meals so that they can heat them on the weekends when he is not there. It's a very homey feeling dining room."

As we grow older, our concerns revolve less and less about the world around us but rather, on our basic needs such as comfort and security and remaining at home or at least in an environment that is as close as possible to our own home. "We put my husband’s aunt in The Shores of Sheboygan. It’s a very nice place with a homey atmosphere. The staff has been very friendly. The food is good. Matt, the director, is easy to work with. "

"We chose Sheboygan Senior Community for mom because of the combination between the facilities, convenience of location, and level of care. I like the overall level of care. The staff is also quite attentive, and I don't think there are any complaints about the food. There are choices of level of care, and there are different levels of care in the building (depending on what your needs are). The sizes of the rooms were adequate and were fine. Nothing outstanding, nothing average, just average. They have a good choice of activities."

"Sheboygan Senior Community is a brand new facility. They built a new facility and moved everything there. Because it’s only a few months old, it was gorgeous. All the amenities were there. The eating facilities looked more like a restaurant than a cafeteria which was nice for the residents. They had everything. They even have an aviary where there are birds; a bunch of courtyards, extra TVs, community rooms where people could get together, play cards, talk or do whatever they want to do. We didn’t have an appointment and it was late at night but the people that we talked to were wonderful. The nurse on duty was more than accommodating. She took myself and my son through the whole building and showed us the rehab room. They had a lot of relevant things in there had she been able to go there. They actually have a car in the building to practice getting in and out of when somebody has a problem. Everybody has their own room, bedroom, and a living room. They have little kitchenette-type areas where they are allowed to have their own refrigerator and microwave. I was impressed with it. "

"My mother-in-law will be moving in. It's very new, and very nice. The rooms are good, it's got a little area for a refrigerator and a microwave. They don't cook in the rooms. There's a main area where there's a living room, a kitchen, and a game area. Each individual has their own bedroom. They have different activities every day, and that's good for her. The call every week, they're very nice, very thoughtful, and they're waiting for her."

Harvest Home provides all the services of a larger facility, but in a cozy, family home atmosphere. Each resident has a large, private bedroom with big window/(s), a closet, wardrobe, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. Also, access to the following shared spaces: an open kitchen with dining area in front of a large bank of windows, a cozy living space with a gas fireplace, a salon, a spa room with a walk in bathtub, laundry room, an activity room with piano, and an open patio. "I toured Songbird Pond. It looks like a very nice place, but their paperwork says that when you run out of money, they find a different facility for you. They also do not take Medicaid. The room that was shown to us was a nice-sized one. The staff member who was supposed to give me the tour wasn't there. They had activities, but I don't remember what they were. Their dining areas were confusing for me. They were in different areas. It would be very confusing for the residents to go back and forth to find their rooms. I didn't like that. The dining place I checked is very small, but they sit down all together at the same table to eat, and I like that."

"The first place we went and toured was Southern Horizon Assisted Living. The lady who gave the tour was absolutely wonderful. The place was absolutely beautiful. That's where my brother wanted to go. However, they said he couldn't come there because they felt that he would need more care than they could give. He really liked it because he would have his own little mini apartment, and they have a little dining room. It was awesome, but they just told him that he needed too much care. The apartment was very nice and very homey. The size was very nice, too. They have a stove and a microwave and everything in their room, so a lot of the residents do their own cooking. They have a very large activity area where you can go and meet people and do whatever you want to do. There is an activity director who does things. They do a lot of bingo and card games and things like that. The facility itself was really nice, but if you're somebody with a walker or anything, you would have to do a lot of walking. They have areas where you could sit and rest, though. So we were heartbroken when they said that my brother needed too much care because he didn't, so I don't know what they were looking for."
