I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Lake Anne is a very good facility. She's staying in a 1-bedroom apartment with a TV lounge and kitchen. It's reasonably priced. They have a calendar of activities for the residents, and she liked the food very much.

The staff are excellent except for one. I have caught her talking very rudely to the elderly residents which is a big no-no. Apart from that, they do their best to maintain the building. It is very old. The rooms are bright with a lot of natural light. The location is excellent. It's walking distance to everything. The bus comes right to the doorstep. They have many activities and bus trips for shopping etc to keep the residents busy. There are no vending machines or a cafeteria or any such thing in the building. Parking for visitors is limited to 8 spots, usually they are filled up and we have to park on the street. When the farmer's market is on, across at the plaza, street parking too is very hard to find. It can be inconvenient for visitors or care givers. The market rate for the apartments are very low for such a wonderful location. Yes the kitchens are old, there is room for improvement overall like aging water pipes that cause water shut offs for a whole day which can be very inconvenient. The manager. Louneta, is great with planning and bringing additional improvements for the residents. There is a lot of diversity among residents at Lake Anne Fellowship house. Many are limited English speakers who are very polite and courteous. There is controlled access, a sign-in book and security. Maintenance staff are very caring and attentive to addressing issues. Overall, we have had a good experience and no complaints.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Lake Anne Fellowship House has been OK. My mom doesn’t want to move. They’re getting ready to demolish this building and build a new building because it’s very old, and the facility doesn’t really work well with seniors. The doors of the back are not for seniors. You have to hold the doors open and a lot of other things that they had not thought about but they can do better. They’re still in the middle of the negotiating what’s going to happen. I think they need much more modern touches like the kitchen. They have an old-fashioned venting system. The vent is not over the stove; the vent is in a different area of the kitchen. The staff has treated my mom very well. I guess 80% of the residents are foreign. They don’t speak English, and I think the staff needs some diversity training to know how to work with people that don’t speak English as a first language. She’s in a studio; it’s small to me. They have different classes downstairs for them like tai-chi, and they show movies. It would be nice to have more social things like classes, but they do have a few things there already. They don’t provide any meals. One of the complaints the residents have is they wish there was somewhere for them to go out everyday and meet other people because some of them don’t have any friends or family. Even if they can’t provide dinner, if they could provide breakfast for everyone to come out, that would be a really good thing for them to have.

    I am/was a resident of this facility

I have lived at Lake Anne Fellowship House for 14 years and I like it a lot. It is handy. There are buses that come up to the front door and there is a community center right across the street. They have various activities. There is craft club, dancing and Tai-Chi. There are various organizations that come in and give talks. I would recommend them except that there is a two-year waiting list and it is already closed.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The Lake Anne Fellowship House is both a government funded assisted living complex for seniors over 62, who are handicapped or disabled. A relative of mine spent more than 10 years residing there. The location, first off, is absolutely wonderful for a person living with disability. It is located across the street from the Reston VA, Lake Anne shopping complex, which is chock o block filled with events, fairs, and waterfront restaurants. It is also in close proximity to the Reston Town Center, a sort of mega shopping complex with a movie theater. Each of the Lake Anne Fellowship House units (Efficiency, Studio and One Bedroom Units), all have their own kitchens; gigantic windows, generally facing some facet of beauty - woods, trees, pretty homes; and private bathrooms equip with handrails and emergency call button. Tenants have a community dining room, reasonably frequent events -- holidays and such -- and a local bus to take them to the nearby, though far enough, community center. All in all, for the price, the location, and the amenities, it is a very nice place to retire single, and live out your years.
