Independence Court of Quakertown

My mom was there for 5 days, M-F. First off, my mom is prone to UTIs. I told them that. They put her in a room designed for 1 person. It had 1 small closet, A half bath. They divided the closet in half and said this was Mother’s side and this was the roommate side. You know how women are with clothes. Do you think a half of a coat closet is enough? Well, what I am disappointed in is myself. I read that one review that a gentleman wrote where he and his wife were residents there, and after she died he wrote the review. He was spot on, correct, and I should have stayed away because of what he wrote. On the 5TH day, Friday, my mother was acting out of character. The director, assistant director? of admissions called me and said that Mom was acting out and this was not a good fit for her, that I needed to come get her. I was an hour away. I told them to call an ambulance. They told me it was Behaviorial, that no ambulance would come and get her. I said that that is not my mother. She is a quiet little person. Something is wrong. Call an ambulance. 3 times I told them to call an ambulance, that they were delaying care by making me drive to bring her to the ER. Nope. I drove to get Mom. I drove her to an ER where they had a dementia unit, because that is what they said I had to do. It was definitely medical and not Behaviorial. They made the decision and they are not doctors. Mom was hospitalized for. 14 days, with a full blown UTI. UTIs on seniors can make them do some crazy things. Needless to say, Mom did not return to this facility. She is at a beautiful one now, much better than this one. Their activities at Independence Court are boring. I went with Mom and I wondered how she would be entertained day in and day out in their one activity room , where all the residents seated takes up the entire space. You can’t do anything but sit there, like a plug. Where she is now there is a much larger activity room, two dining rooms, a bistro for coffee and drinks all day, warm bread from bread machines comes out at 2 pm for a snack. There are some nice things at Independence court, like the hairdresser is a peach, and happy hour is every day, beer and wine (Moms new place has a full bar) but when it comes to care and an emergency they proved to me what that gentleman said in his review was true, because it happened to us. Look around. Get the whole package, the best care and the best food and the best cleanliness! I forgot to say two things, many of the rooms reek of urine. Strong Urine smells indicate that it’s been there a while folks. Never, ever have I smelt anything at Moms new place except bleach and windex and I have been there 40 times! At Independence court it smacks you in the face, like a liter box that hasn’t been changed in weeks. Lastly, when I went in to talk with the assistant director at Independence Court, I sat on the blue couch,. My husband stood. He was the smart one! When I got up my pants were soaked in urine. I had to ride home on a bed wetting mat. People, do your homework. Don’t ignore the reviews. Why would we write them?

My mom, aunt and uncle all live here. It has been a very good experience. The cost is reasonable and the staff that we have encountered are very friendly. Also, when we have needed assistance with the VA and other government forms, they have gone out of their way to help us with the paperwork. Thank you Suzanne for all of your help when we have questions or need assistance. There are plenty of activities to choose from including music programs, holiday events and church. They work hard to keep the building clean as well. The administrator, Ken, truly cares for the residents and his door is always open if you need him. We are very grateful that we found this place. By the way, their location is excellent for the hospital, doctors' offices, banks and the stores in Quakertown.

We went to Independence Court of Quakertown. Be careful of the shared rooms. There are a lot of issues around them. It's very hard to pair up people well into their 70s, 80s, or 90s and have them get along. A lot of people go there because it's $2,500 a month, but that's for a shared room. A private room is $5,000 a month. I wasn't particularly fond of the staff. You had a couple of people that were really good, but a lot of people that weren't really good. There's not much to speak of in terms of the grounds. They're right off a highway. The location is great if you live within a 10-mile radius of Quakertown. The amenities weren't that great. I don't think it's a very good place.

My mother-in-law is living at Independence Court of Quakertown. The community is very nice. Everyone seems pleasant. The food is good. We haven't been up there for a little while, but I suppose it has been good. Everything seemed fine when we were there. We thought the living atmosphere was very nice. I thought the staff was very nice, too. They have an activities room and a nice outdoor area. It seems like they have lots of activities, but my mother-in-law is not interested in them.

The administrator at Independence Court of Quakertown was a terrific guy. The downsid of the place was the independent care. Also, the people who needed service were all in the same area. It was like a big, happy family, but maybe not as happy as it could have been. There was an intermingling of all the different health issues. If they divided that up, I think it could be a little more conducive. The facility was expensive, too. I thought it was cool that they had a Happy Hour every day. It would take place right outside the administrator's office.
