The Best Assisted Living Communities in Hunterdon County, NJ

"We've chosen Spring Hills Princeton for my mother, and she's moving this week. Location was a big deal. I'm very familiar with Princeton. It's not far from where I live. It's not far from where I work. So location, and convenience of my being able to get there were definitely at the top of my priorities. It's also in a beautiful area, a very beautiful facility. The staff was phenomenal. I toured their dining facility, and saw their menu. Some of the residents did come up to me and, they sort of very friendly and, they happened to mention, that they love the meals. They enjoy being there. So I'm assuming that it's pretty good. I was shown three different style rooms, a studio, one is considered like a one bedroom, and then the other is like a two bedroom, I guess, for couples. We liked the studio. We felt my mother would be fine in a smaller room, but they showed me a model of how it could be set up if I did select the studio, and made it very simple for me to get my mother to make sure she had what she needed by seeing this model. So it made it very easy for me to visualize what I need to do. They were also able to show that they have a room where they do all the arts and crafts. I know my mother in the past had enjoyed it, so I'm hoping that that would get her back to being interested. So an entire room for that with somebody who helps them do crafts and art. They have a nice, little, reading section, like a little library. I know my mother from the past enjoyed reading so that was very helpful. They also have a section where I knew she was going to need physical therapy and occupational therapy, so we did a tour of that section."

"We liked Renaissance Home Forks very much. It's a very nice facility, and for the money, it was very good. I was there a couple of times. The first floor is going to be renovated, but the second and third floors have been renovated and the rooms are just beautiful. They really did a nice job on the individual rooms, and she would be going into independent living, and assisted living also, they did a nice job. Very bright, all brand new, just pretty. They were great. They were very friendly, nice people. I know they had a movie night. They renovated the large gathering room where they had cooking lessons, they said, and you could just gather and sit down. They put in a nice picture window, so it looked out to a really pretty view outside. The floors, the furniture, everything was new. It was very nice. They had two cafeterias, dining rooms. One was nicer than the other, I didn't like one of them on the first floor, it's kind of old looking. The first floor didn't look new, but the second and third floors, they did a great job. They said they were going to renovate the first floor, too. I don't know when, but my aunt would have loved it there. Outside, they only had a sitting area, but the sitting area really could have used some sprucing up. They said they were going to do that. The only problem is they make you give them a nonrefundable move-in deposit that is equal to the rent of the apartment, and that's expensive for a senior citizen, so I was a little disappointed in that. My aunt was going to pay for it, but it's $2100. The services and the room were well worth it, but to take another twenty-one hundred dollars from somebody who's on a budget, was the only thing that I wasn't thrilled with. They had a doctor there so you could get your prescriptions. They would order them for you, which was also, a nice service. They had a van to take you places if you needed a car. So those are services. There are no activities with the services they have, and they have some services there which were good. I think senior citizens are going to worry sometimes more about the services than the activities."

"I had a pleasant visit at Spring Hills Somerset. I didn’t have the chance to look around because they kept feeding us, but the food was good. I had no complaints. The rooms were fine. The staff was very nice. Their dining area was very nice and roomy. "

"My son and I went on a tour of Maplewood at Princeton over in Plainsboro. They have a 1-bedroom apartment available in assisted living, and I'm kind of pursuing that. It seemed like there was enough staff, and they looked like they were helpful. They were helping the residents that we saw there. One thing I liked about the dining area was that they had something that other assisted living facilities didn't have. In addition to the tables, they had an open kitchen and a counter that faced it. You can come in here any time and get anything that you want to eat. You don't necessarily have to sit with people, because sometimes you don't feel like doing that or having a conversation. You can just go and sit at the counter and get everything you want to eat at any time. I thought that was a good idea and something that I hadn't seen before. The rooms were a little bit bigger than the other places. It's a regular 1-bedroom apartment, not a studio, so it's still relatively small. I know they're not going to be big or anything, but it's still bigger than the rooms of other places that I'd seen. The facility looked clean and organized. Everything was in place, and nothing looked sloppy or out of place. Everything looked very neat and well-kept."

"Mira Vie at Warren is too far for us, but it was an excellent place. I didn't like that they had separate buildings, so in order to eat, you had to go to another building. I didn't really meet many other staff, but the salesperson was very nice, helpful, and friendly. She was very good. The place seemed very clean. They have a special dining room area where they invite the families. We walked through the dining hall and that looked very clean. The staff showed me one of the rooms which was available at the time. I saw the other living space where a lot of seniors were playing cards and stuff, and that seemed clean and nice. They had a coffee corner there that was nice. I think it's a pretty new facility. But I don't like the location. It is up a hill and far away from where we are. In the wintertime, I do not want to go up a hill."

"My father is in Bentley Commons for two months now. The facilities are very nice; everything is very clean. The people are very friendly, and his room is of nice size, easy to get around. Every person I have met has been extremely pleasant and accommodating, especially people at the front desk; when I bring him to places, I take him out and bring him back, and they are very accommodating. They do whatever we needed, and we often forget to take his alert off and they’ll hold it for him. At one time I came but I couldn’t find him, but they suggest to check in the theater and there he was. It seemed very good; his room is always clean, but he tends to clean himself as well. I had questions about when are they going to change the sheets and getting him involved in activities; those are the only things that I would say put me up to a 5 star. "

"My sister moved up to Phoebe Richland Community. It was very welcoming. They gave her all the physical therapy she could handle, which was great. She had physical therapy almost every day and occupational therapy almost every day when she got there. She still gets it quite frequently. The staff is very nice. She enjoys the other residents there. She says she has a wonderful time getting to know them and they're very caring also. I was there one Saturday when the director himself was helping someone move into their memory care area. He was moving the clothing and stuff in himself on a Saturday. They're just delightful. There's an exercise class of some kind every morning, wheelchair volleyball, chair, or tai-chi. There's at least one activity every morning and one or two activities every afternoon. Every day I call or when I talk to my sister, she'll say, "Oh yes, we had an exercise this morning." It's a smaller place, so they can't offer the diversity of activities that a larger facility might offer. The assisted living has a beautiful lounge area when you walk in. The dining room is lovely. You couldn't ask for anything better. I get no complaints from my sister except there's no salt, but she can bring some herself. That's for health reasons. I saw two small library reading areas, a game room, a big lounge, and a dining room. She's in a temporary room right now because there were no rooms available, so it's a little small but very nice and furnished. It has a dresser, a wardrobe, a chair, a bed, a little kitchenette, and a beautiful bathroom that's handicapped accessible. It is less expensive than others for definitely something better. Their staff is especially caring. This place is much more consistent with their staffing, which means the staff gets to know their people better."

"I visited Twining Village last year. It was very nice and lovely, but it was not something for me at that time because they had an indoor swimming pool which I couldn't use because of my legs. However, everything was just great. They had activities. They actually had people bowling and swimming. There were exercise rooms, and yes, there were people walking around the halls with their walkers. The people seemed to be very happy there. I didn't try their food, but I did go to their dining room, it was like a hotel, and it was really nice. Everybody was friendly, nice, and seemed to be very helpful. I understood when you moved in there that you would have all new appliances and everything fixed up in your apartment. They had transportation for doctor's offices and so forth, which was something I would probably make use of. They had lots of things that people could do. "

"Everything at Oxford Crossings was amazing. Carlen was extremely helpful and just had nothing but a ton of information for me, and it was all very helpful. The place was beautiful. The staff was amazing. The facilities were top-notch. It was a newer facility and had very high standards. The staff was just completely professional, very courteous, and very friendly. I was unable to sample a meal but they did show me a menu, and it seemed to be a rotating menu. They said special requests were also provided within reason, but it seemed like they go above and beyond for their residents. I was very impressed. I did meet the event coordinator, and she had a full list of activities."

"It is close to where we live and it would only take me about five minutes to get there from home thus the main reason why I chose this facility for my husband. The place is clean and everybody seemed to enjoy working there. His room is always clean and if he needs anything they were always there to clean it up. The staff cleans his room a couple times per day. The staff are very nice and are always there if he needed anything. They were always running in and seeing if everything was alright. If he pushes his button, they were there within a couple of minutes. They didn't let him wait. I love the food. It was very good. They had activities like sing along. They also had special people come in and do games with them and sing. They are really accommodating and my husband is well taken care of."

"We toured Juniper Village at Hamilton. It's such a nice community when you go in. The atrium was beautiful and wide open. The cafeteria looked so nice. My friend was impressed with its size. She loved to walk the hallways. The surrounding area was very nice for walking, and she has a dog. Inside, there was so much room for her to walk and get into the activity. Plus, she was very impressed with the activity schedule. There was so much to do every day to keep you busy if you wanted to be active. There's a movie theater, which she loves, a library, and a gym. They offered everything that she was interested in. We were both very impressed by it. We checked their dining area and menu. We discussed it, and they offered specials every day. Plus, they have other foods, so if you opt not to choose from the specials, you have other options every day, which is wonderful. The staff was extremely helpful and very pleasant. As we were walking through, all the staff acknowledged us. It seemed like a very pleasant community. Even the residents seemed very happy. The ones we saw smiled and said hello."

"My grandmother will be moving into Bethlehem Manor. It was homey, personal, and small, which is what we wanted. The staff is super friendly and has a lot of high energy. I saw two room options. It was very nice. The rooms are a little smaller than other places, but we don't need a big room.It was perfect for us. We are welcome to bring our own furniture, which she will be bringing some of her own. I went at lunch, and the dining area looked really nice. It doesn't look like a restaurant, and it doesn't look like a cafeteria. It's nice and casual. There was a variety of food. It was just a nice pleasant place to sit down and eat. She'll be in the care plus level. It is assisted living, but she gets a little bit more checking than the base level. They have a beauty salon, field trips that will be resuming to stores and activities, church services, and a garden club. When I was in there, they were doing a monthly theme. Once a month, they do a theme day. They have certain activities that were going on there and people talking. Their theme was jungle, and they were doing some activities and crafts with that. I didn't ask about anything else. I thought that was enough to keep her busy. There might be more stuff for more active seniors. It was absolutely clean. The bathrooms were wonderful. There's not a single step the whole way, not even a step into the shower. The whole facility was very wheelchair ADA compliant, which was really nice."

"To make a long story short and to the point, I broke my hip and Westminster had a bed for me ,I was nervous, scared not knowing what to expect. The staff greeted me with so much Love and Respect I cried. I did not realize so many kind, caring people would be brought into my life. The aides made me feel like Family, if needed they were right by my side. Dr. Rabenold and Dr. Mona Lisa were on top of test checking with me everyday making sure my health was Priority!When it came time to be discharged I did not want to leave. I went in to Westminster not eating as I am very fussy. The food was Fantastic I never ate so much and if I wanted to I could make a Special request. Please Trust me on this one I Promise you the Best care, Excellent Drs. and Love! I would make this number 1. Pattie"
