I visited this facility

I visited Harrison House of Chester County. What I liked most is you could buy different types of meal programs as well as you had your own full kitchen. It wasn't like you were locked into getting your meals through their facility, although they have a chef. The menu was very interesting. Everybody there was very gracious. They had nice space. I think the biggest challenge was because it is converted from a former hospital, if you look at the units, they had to build them around columns or HVAC or whatever so that the layout of the individual units was sort of quirky. I want to be in some place where I can personalize it with my things and I have the hardest time picturing it there because of the layout. The bed could go there, but there's no additional wall for a dresser because they have little bumpouts here and there. The renovations they were doing were nice and they acknowledged that it was sort of quirky because it was a former hospital. That was the biggest downside. The staff was very gracious and very informative. We talked through things. She responded to all my questions. She provided more material and gave me information about their assisted living facility. Your spouse could be in assisted living and you could be in independent living and be basically in the same building. The unit was strictly a one-room unit with a bathroom. Everything was pretty much piled on top of everything in this space, but it was satisfactory. I did not taste the food, but it certainly had a nice presentation. The dining room had a positive vibe to it. I certainly got a very favorable impression of the organization as a whole.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

There really is nothing negative to say. From the Director to the staff explained everything clearly all of the details for my mother to live there. My mother, along with other relatives, were residents at Harrison House and for the most part, the same staff remained there. I did not notice any major turnover of the nursing staff along with the administrators. The staff were amazing, empathetic, caring, knowledgeable and professional. They made sure I was aware of any health issues with my mother and guided me towards the most appropriate treatment plans for her. The activities available were diversified to meet the needs of all levels of residents. The food was excellent with very nice food choices. The chef made sure the food was presented nicely on the plate. The staff and administrators could not do enough for my family and for me. I highly recommend Harrison House for your loved ones.

I visited this facility

My husband and I visited Harrison House. We are looking for Independent living for ourselves. I loved the place. It was like a hotel. Each floor was decorated beautifully with antiques. The place was buzzing with activity. Ashley, the woman who gave us two tours of the place, is a nurse and the perfect person for her job. The activity room was a nice size and there were plenty of activities scheduled. The apartments were updated. The prices are within our range and we can bring our dog. There is a library, a nice sized gym, physical therapy, transportation. Everyone there seemed very content. Because it is not too big of a facility, the staff seemed to know each resident we encountered. I loved the laundry rooms, there are two on each floor and they are large and free! I really love the intimacy of the place and we are on their waiting list. Can't wait!

I visited this facility

We visited Harrison House of Chester County. They were very polite. It's a clean facility. Everything appeared to be in order. I'm actually hoping to finally get a chance to move there. It would be convenient to go shopping. I saw a studio and a one-bedroom. They were very adequate as far as the size. They showed me the exercise area, their outdoor patios, which were kept very neat and orderly, the dining areas should I take their meal plan, recreation areas, and hobby areas. They have areas where they take care of plants. The staff was very knowledgeable, very courteous, and very professional. They had a reading group in one recreation area. I didn't really see that much activity, but it was between breakfast and lunch when we did the tour.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother currently lives at Harrison House of Chester County. She's in assisted living or personal care. Overall, it's good. I think she's received attentive care. The workers are caring and compassionate. The only negative was when we first toured the facility, we were told that pretty much there were all different levels of care, so as her needs increase, they would be able to handle her increased needs. As it turns out now, that's not the case. They told us that unfortunately since she's had a fall and needs more care, we now need to move her somewhere else. They offer different levels of care. I'm not quite sure why they feel that they can no longer care for her unless they just don't have room or an area that would accommodate her. They gave us the impression that they would be able to accommodate us. As her memory failed or as her needs increased, they had nurses that would be able to accommodate that. We were disappointed when that turned out not to be the case. The staff was kind and compassionate. The nurses, the CNAs, and the people that worked in the kitchen were all very kind, pleasant people. The rooms were nice and well-maintained. From what I've seen, they do a very good job of constantly updating and maintaining. I have had their food. It's not like going to a restaurant, but it's not bad as far as institutional food. They have a good variety. Their food is probably better than any other nursing facility. They have an activity room and for anybody that can go down, they try to get them down to the activity room. They have some performers that come in, play the piano, and try to get them involved. Every day, there are things that go on down there. They have a beauty salon. My mom would get her haircut there, so that was very convenient. They'd make sure she got down there and had her hair cut and brought her back to her room. My biggest disappointment was that they could not provide care for her as her needs increased. They don't have a memory care unit. They said that they don't have staff to try to take care of her if she would fall, that kind of thing.

We visited Harrison House Chester County and my sister liked that. We saw four different one-bedroom apartments and they were all very nice and very updated. The tour was great. Meals are not included in the rent, but that's OK because you can take them or you don't have to and it's only $7 a meal. Their dining room was also updated and very nice. On each floor, they had the library just close to where the individual apartments were and parking in the back. It was very nice.

I visited Harrison House Chester County. It's an old hospital, so the building's a little older. I think the rooms could be a little bit bigger, but they have a few to choose from. Overall, it was OK. The staff was kinda minimal, but they were very pleasant, and the people I saw were very nice. Some of the rooms had a kitchenette and some didn't. They have about the same activities and amenities as others, a weight room, barbershop, and a salon, they had a nice area outside for activities. They can go outside and do shuffleboard or backgammon and all that stuff, they have an area for that.

We will probably go with Harrison House Chester County. It was very nice, clean, and the residents seem very happy. It's lively. It has a wide range of people that they serve from independent to obviously those who need more help. It's a place where they can grow. They can stay and get the care they need as they go. The rooms we saw were very spacious and large 1-bedroom apatments. They were very nice. My dad will be in what they call Independent Plus, which means independent in which he could have a little care. If he ever needed more care, he could get it. They have activities for the people. They have nice gardens, nice cafeterias, food, and meals for them. They have a beautiful gym to workout in. They have a lot of stuff. The dining area was beautiful. Everything is brand new. It's all redone, so it looks great. From what I can see, they have a healthy menu. The person who gave the tour was wonderful. She had grown up through the system and started as a young girl there, and now became a nurse. So I feel like I can trust her more. She's not just a salesperson because she knows what's needed, and she's been a hands on person.

I visited this facility

I went to Harrison House Chester County. They were friendly, informative, and nice people. I remember seeing one apartment, but I frankly thought it was quite small. There actually was a bingo tournament going on when we were there. It was basically an apartment building. Other than a small eating area in the main lobby, there was nothing of any consequence; that's why we declined. It was clean and well maintained. I was not impressed with the staff at all.

I liked Harrison House Chester County very much. I checked it because I have a cousin and neighbor there. They're very happy and I knew the care. One is in independent living and one is in assisted living. They're very nice to their residents. I liked everything about it. You have a kitchen and a dining area, but there's no stove, only a microwave and refrigerator in the assisted living. In the independent, you have a regular apartment. Their food is very good. They have bands, music that comes in, bingo, crafts, and on Fridays, they have wine and cheese. They have big parties where all the family members can come, crafts, exercise program, and coffee. They also have therapy there.

My mother was a resident at Harrison House and had the best care a person could ask for. The nurses really know each resident. The place was very clean and all the staff go out of their way to make each person feel at home. There are plenty of activities every day and they even had a special picnic at the end of the summer for all the families and residents. The food is all homemade and delicious. This place is the best kept secret in the area. I love that it is family owned.

My mother is in a new room at Harrison Senior Living of Coatesville, and it's big enough for her. It's studio-sized or even a little bit smaller. There are med techs and nurses on the floor. We chose this place so that she could be closer to us. They have a calendar of activities. They offer to take people to different activities, and the people can say yes or no. It's up to them. The food is fairly good. My mother does say that at times it's not as hot as she would like, but she does like the food.

I am a friend or relative of resident

I have a friend at Harrison House, Coatesville. The staff is beyond nice and accommodating. They treat the residents like family. The facility is extremely clean; the activities are plentiful; and the food is good. There are a number of public rooms to sit and visit with relatives and friends beside your own room or apartment in assisted living. There isn't anything not to like about this place.

Harrison Senior Living of Coatesville was a very nice place. The one-bedroom was nice and large. They had a lot of activities. They had speakers come in, and they had a worship service. It's very clean and well laid out. It has security features where you have a card key to get on the elevator. They were very friendly, and they had access to wifi.

Harrison House has the location my brother-in-law wanted. We chose it because it has a good reputation, and he liked it there. Their staff is wonderful. The rooms are very lovely -- not really fancy -- but it fits the bill. I thought the food was excellent. They have outings too.

My grandmother is in Harrison Senior Living. My dad chooses it because it is more affordable. I think everything is fine in there. My grandmother is very adjusted and comfortable with the people around. The staff handles her with extreme care and they are always very nice. They try to make it fun too. They have a lot of food to offer. It is not just one thing that they are eating. Like today they are having roast beef, lasagna and salad and five others thing I can't think of. They also have spinach, muffin and food bowls. I don’t think they will starve there. A couple of weeks ago they have a dance. They have bus rides around time and she has a lot of fun doing that. She enjoys her stay there very much. But what impresses me the most is their residential care.

The rooms at Harrison Senior Living were nice. However, in getting to the rooms, you would have to take an elevator. I didn't like their set up.
