My sister is at Park Village Southside. She has Alzheimer's. What I saw when I was there, it's excellent care, and I have no problem with it. They had a room prepared for our family and they came to check on us and see if we needed anything. My niece (that's her mother) I never hear anything from her that's negative. The staff is wonderful. They took time for you. They didn't just say, 'How's it going? and walk away. They're very, very nice people. I told my niece, I want to go there and live there. It's a new place. I was there with my other four siblings. There were five of us visiting my sister. My brother lives close by, so he visits a lot. He loves it. My niece has no complaints about the food, and they're allowed to bring my sister things, like her favorite foods, and they bring in cookies. I do know that if it's a patient's birthday, they do a big thing. They're caring, it seems to me. It's clean and nice. The girl showed us different rooms where the residents play cards, and they have a pool table. They gave us a little bit of a tour as we were going back to the room to meet my sister. I saw people sitting at tables playing cards. I've also seen pictures of when it was my sister's birthday, everybody is out there and it was all decorated. They planned for those things. They have an outdoor patio and a place to get together and have picnics.

Park Village Southside was really nice and fairly new. The rooms were really, really nice. The inside was really nice. They had cottages outside for someone that just needed independent living. Then they had the nursing home part and assisted living part. The cottages were really, really nice, and they had garages. They do your snow, your grass, and all that stuff. The apartments in the building were a little bit smaller. Those didn't have a garage or anything. I saw the assisted living ones, too. I saw an exercise room and a dining room. I saw a room where they had people come in and do music and stuff for them. I saw where they do their hair and the laundry room. The staff was really nice.

I visited Park Village Southside, and at this point that's where I'd like to go, unless I can find something better and cheaper. I don't know how long ago it was built, though only one other person lived in this little cottage place that I looked at. It's a two-bedroom, which is what I want. The bedrooms were big enough to accommodate my clothing needs, and the other one was big enough to accommodate my queen-sized bed and maybe a couple of bookcases for my quilting books and recreational reading. The bathroom was pristine. It had a walk-in shower, which is one of my requirements, with a built-in seat. I call my disabled commode a high-rise commode. It had a real kitchen, a refrigerator with a freezer, and a stove. It had a dishwasher. I've never had a dishwasher in my life, so that was wonderful. It has double sinks, normal-sized sinks. The only thing I would have to buy there would be some bar stools, because there's a bar on the other side of the sink and stuff, which would mean I would not have to have a table. The only thing I would have to put money out for would be for maybe four bar stools. I had a screened-in back porch, and I've always wanted a screened-in porch. You get a washer and dryer in your unit and a garage. Thomas was the one who took me around, and he's one of the owners. The upkeep and maintenance were pristine. They have an adjoining assisted living building that has a nurse 24-seven that you can call for anything. They have another unit that's a nursing home. If it ever became a problem and you needed assisted living, they can just move you right up to a unit in the assisted living. If things got to the point where you have Alzheimer's or dementia or whatever and you needed a nursing home situation, they would then move you into the nursing home. If you start out as a resident in any unit, you are automatically given preferential treatment to moving into any others.

My brother will be moving into Park Village Health Care. We had a brief tour, and because of the Covid, we weren't able to do the whole thing, but we liked what we were able to see. They were very friendly, very nice, and very accepting to making my brother feel very welcome. We got to meet some of the staff, and we found that it was hard to do that at other facilities. The facility is brand new, and beautiful. Covid limits things, so that made it kind of a little tough. The staff was very accommodating, and friendly. He will have a studio apartment there. They normally have outside entertainment, activities, an exercise time, a beauty shop, barber shop, and a cafe. They have visitation three times a week, but it's outside right now. They said they're looking into figuring out what they're gonna do for the inclement weather. We're hoping that they at least allow maybe a special room. Covid is a threat, but I think the isolation is a big threat as well. We know residents there. Based on their recommendation, they love it there so that has a lot to do with our decision as well. It's a new facility, it's bright, and there's a lot of light coming in. It's just a beautiful facility, and it's comparable in price.
