What you can do with Caring
About Arden Courts - Anderson in Cincinnati, Ohio
We are a Memory Care specific community purposely built to serve those living with Alzheimer's Disease and other related dementia's. Our entire community was designed after 5 years of research from Johns Hopkins University and has been serving our surrounding community since 2000. To say we are the leaders in Memory Care would be an understatement. We are a small community that is comprised of 4 themed connective houses joined by an inner core that contains the beauty/barber shop, community center, and studio. There are additional themed alcove areas that residents can visit which provide stimulation of both visual and auditory senses. Whether it be the waves of the ocean rolling in at the beach or the birds singing within Central Park, our residents enjoy these additional amenities. Because we are memory care specific, we truly understand brain disease and what our residents need. The freedom to wander safely and independently, we offer a 1/4 mile landscaped garden path accessible from twelve doors. Residents are free to come and go freely. This freedom allows them the quality to their life without feeling restricted or forbidden. Our engagement therapies "activities" are tailored to those living with brain disease to fit their ability and skill. The engagements add additional purpose to our resident's life and gives them the inclusion they seek. My mother has been at Arden Courts of Anderson for close to 5-1/2 years. Honestly, there were some major issues there a year ago which you may have heard about (or others may have commented about), but the new staff have turned the place back around to the quality facility it had always been. The caregivers there are extremely kind and attentive to the residents. The daily activities are structured and varied, and the activities staff encourage the residents to participate. The facility itself is always clean, has recently been refurbished, and the layout with 4 individual dining and living room areas make for a more home-like atmosphere. Food is prepared fresh daily on-site. The staff is also very supportive of the family members who are dealing with the hardships of a loved one with dementia. Living 300 miles away (with no other family in the area), I rest easily knowing my mother is in good hands. Actually the reason I have not moved her closer is that she is so very content there, plus I know I could not find as caring and as nice of a facility/staff (and I live in a large metropolitan area with numerous facilities). I highly recommend Arden Courts of Anderson if you have a family member in need of quality memory care.

My mother-in-law moved in in late October, 2016 and my husband and I have had peace of mind ever since. I can't say enough about how satisfied we are with the staff. They are terrific, very upbeat, caring and patient with all of the residents. They check on the residents every hour. All of the staff seem to know all the residents' names. Whenever something happens, whether health wise or an occurrence out of the ordinary, we have always been notified in a timely fashion. We love the outdoor areas that the residents have access to unless the weather is inclement. Other places we looked at did not have a yard like outside area and it extends around the whole back of the building. There are multiple doors for the residents to use to access this completely enclosed area. This area is also checked regularly to make sure residents are okay. My mother-in-law is very content living here.

My mother was in Arden Courts. I thought it was excellent. They were very caring, the facility was very clean and extremely neat, and the staff was very accommodating and very friendly. I thought that the on-site doctor was just fantastic. I thought it was wonderful. It’s just that mom didn’t need that much care, and she could be with dad in the other facility. It was very homey. The Arden Courts are shaped like a capital letter H, so each wing had its own dining room and roughly 30 units and this way the residents can be in their small community. I thought it was very clean and very neat, the staff was great, and the room was small but very bright and very clean. I thought it was wonderful.

Arden Courts has been excellent all the way around, so far. I am not saying anything will go wrong, but my mother-in-law hasn’t been there a really long time yet, and from what we have experienced so far, everything is just really good. The rooms aren’t really big, but it’s OK. At first, she thought they were awfully small and a little too confining. I personally think they are a good size for one person to be in. There is much less of a chance of misplacing items if you’re in a smaller space, and I think she’s grown to accept it now. She went from living in a big house -- a ranch-style house in Columbus, OH -- to downsizing a lot. So, you have to imagine it would take some getting used to; plus, her spouse is now gone, so there have been a lot of changes for her. The residents can bring what they want to bring in for the room. We did not bring her bed in; we use the bed that was there, but she has pictures of her grandchildren and her family in there, and it is lightly decorated because she hasn’t really been there that long. We plan on doing more things, but there is room enough for a TV, a chair, a bed, a nightstand, and a dresser, and there’s a bathroom that’s right in the bedroom as well, so she has access. The dining room is right down the hall, no more than 20 steps away. Anything she wants is very nearby, so I think it’s an ideal setup for a person such as her. They have a lot of activities that focus on brainwork, which is really excellent, because my mother-in-law needs that because of her Alzheimer’s. They also have various events that are going on; for instance, they have movies on the weekend, and they’re having an event this coming weekend where they are going to give out candy to trick or treaters. They’ve had sing-alongs, and there's something going on all the time

Arden Courts of Anderson is strictly an Alzheimer's unit, and that's what I wanted for my father-in-law. We chose this facility because we just felt like it was a good fit for him because he has Alzheimer's, they can keep him there until end of life, and it was more like a home-setting. The room is very clean. The room is equipped with a bed, a dresser, a chair, and a half bath. Then they provide all the lines and towels. He has a closet for his stuff. The dining room is more like a home. The home is divided into quadrants, and each quadrant has their own dining room and living room. The dining room is not really formal; it seems more like a kitchen. They have a lot of activities. I didn't get to observe anym but it is all centered around for people with Alzheimer's, so they do try to get my father-in-law involved. I am happy with everything. I don't have any issues. They were very extremely helpful. We were kind of in a hurry to find a location, and there was going to be a waiting list. They contacted the other people on the waiting list. Truthfully, he got in the day after I visited, so they did everything to help facilitate that.

Arden Courts was a good place for my mother to live. It was a good environment -- very nice and clean. The staff and the services were good. If I’d ask them something, they would tell me. They were very caring toward the patients. The rooms looked fine, and the menu looked good to me.

Arden Courts was the next facility near to my house. The staff was very nice. The room was satisfactory. However, I ruled it out because I didn't like fact that the food was brought in. To me it would be like meals on wheels. If they could prepare the food fresh daily in the facility, I thought that would be a plus. However, they didn't have a kitchen adequate to do that. I also didn't think it was quite as clean as the one where my husband was in. They had activities and they were doing arts and crafts when I was there.
