"Christian Care Center of Medina is the best one I have been in because I've been in three of them. Everything was wonderful except the food they cook, it wasn't good. I stayed there for two months for rehab. The rooms were nice. If you needed a private room, you would pay more, but they have two beds mostly and that's what everybody gets. They just opened up in May this year, so it's nice and clean. The nurses and staff are awesome, they take care of me. You get 3 meals a day, they bring it to your room, and they pick up the tray. Overall, it's a good home. They have a therapy room, where you can exercise, and they try to keep you going and doing something. They've got three girls that work in there and they know what they're doing. As for the cost, my insurance paid for it. I just couldn't say enough about them because they're that loyal in taking care of me. Even if the people don't come around, the staff keeps up with them. They wash their clothes and try to keep them busy mentally, and that's a lot right there. I had one girl there that I wish I could've brought home with me, we were that close as far as talking, joking, and stuff like that. They have church services and games that they play. They have a woman that tries to keep them happy, she brings magazines and books if you want some of them."

"My father was at Elk River Health and Nursing Center of Winchester for skilled nursing after his hospital stay. It's more of a rehabilitation/skilled nursing, and it's two to a room. They do rehabilitation like physical, occupational, and speech. That's where a lot of inpatients that need rehabilitation after their hospital stay go initially. They were very expensive. My dad didn't like the food there, and he said that one of the techs was not very kind to him and would rough handle him. He didn't like that. My mother got upset with them because they tried to put other medications on my father, which made him drowsy, and he wasn't getting much rehabilitation because of it. My dad wasn't going to be happy there. He wanted to get out of there. Of course, they wanted him out, too. It's more of a nursing home than assisted living because that's exactly what it is. They're in the bed. The bad thing about it is you got all these nurses and techs, but if they don't have the rehabilitation people there working with them to get them up, they're just laying in bed and they're getting the medications and all of that. If I got older, I would not want to go there. Some staff members were OK and some were not. They're supposed to provide a high level of care. It's very expensive, but the value of what they get is not good. Medicare was paying for him for up to 100 days, so my dad didn't have to pay when he was there. When my mother asked them, "Should he have to stay beyond that, how much would it cost?" They said it would be about $109,000 a year based on what my dad's needs were. That's a whole lot of money. You have techs, nurses, and rehabilitation people, so there were lots of high-level staff. Elk River, for that kind of money for what he was getting, not liking the food, and then one or two people rough handling him, then that's a 1 on value."

"My dad spent three weeks at Regency Health Care And Rehabilitation Center. It was a good place for him. We had a good experience. He had good care there. He fell out of bed the first night. Not really their fault, but they made changes to help him with that. They lowered the bed and put pads on the sides, the floors, and stuff like that. And it was a good place for him to kind of get his bearings again and to recover. Their therapy was good. I don't have any complaints about it. My dad was in a private room. They had an activity room, but there was not an activity director nor any kind of grouping to do anything with them. It was more like recovering from being in the hospital. The activity room had a table and a TV and that was it. They would roll people in there who they were afraid were fall risk, but they didn't do anything with them. They just rolled them in there, turned the TV on, and sat there, so that wasn't great."

"I've visited this establishment many times in the past year to care for a fellow church member who is a resident there. There is nothing fancy about the facility, but it is certainly clean and comfortable. There are both private and semi-private rooms. The resident I visit has changed rooms, so I am very familiar with both types of rooms. All the equipment and furnishings are up to date. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. I have observed that the residents appear to be well cared for, which often says a lot about the quality of a nursing home. As a former Home Economics teacher and meal planner for large establishments, I pay special attention to food quality. The food always smells and looks great, which is a big compliment coming from me! They have a small dining area and a quaint recreation room with TV. Since the resident I visit is bedridden, I am not familiar with all of the amenities, but I know they do have regular events in the rec room as well as an outdoors area. As I said previously, the nursing home itself is nothing flashy, but it is certainly clean and evident that the residents are not neglected. "

"I live at Regency Retirement Village. It is a very good place to live. They have activities for anybody who wants to take part. If you don't want to take part, you don't have to. They serve three meals a day. I like the people. The staff is excellent. I have studio apartment with a regular kitchen. I will recommend them to others. "

"Millennium Nursing & Rehab Center was where I wanted my wife, but Medicaid won't pay for it. My wife would have a private room, so she won't have to share with anyone else. They had an activities room. I only talked to one person there, and he seemed to be a pretty nice guy. The place was very clean and maintained. It was a nice, new building."

"The staff at Valley View is doing an excellent job getting my mother-in-law up and walking around. The therapy is working very well, including the speech therapy. The rooms are nice and the staff is very pleasant. My mother-in-law said that the food is very good. Overall, I'm pleased with it."

"The staff at this facility were, for the most part, hard working and friendly; however, we did experience a couple of employees that would mistreat our family member and we reported them immediately. The facility was in an older building and while there was room for improvement, there were new renovations going on to keep the rooms and equipment up to date. All in all, I would have to say that our experience here was enjoyable. There are pros and cons to all long term care facilities. "

"My mother-in-law was in Brookshire Healthcare Center in Huntsville. She had dementia, and it was a very sad situation, but I thought they did well. I did not see her that often, but based on my personal experience with them, they seemed fine. Because she had dementia and really didn't communicate that much, there were times when the food in her refrigerator got spoiled and things like that. I think she just didn't communicate well, but all in all, I thought it was OK. I did not visit her as much, but I thought it was fairly clean. Of course, with so many of the residents being incontinent, sometimes there was a smell. It was not bad, but I understand with so many residents being incontinent, it might be impossible to prevent the smell all the time. They tried to have activities like religious services. She really couldn't attend or do much of that toward the end, but they tried to provide activities and services. Her room was a semi-private, but there were times when there was no one else in the room. The financial person there worked with the family, and she seemed compassionate. The finances can be stressful, and she worked with the family on that; it was very helpful."
